Welcome to the first edition of the Art Gallery of SnoValley Newsletter!

The Gallery, which opened on February 26, 2016, is an artist “collective” (self-managed by the group). We currently have 14 member artists and several guest artists. In addition to paintings and greet-ing cards, sometimes called “2D”

or “2 Dimensional” art, we also feature “3D” art. This includes our collection of pottery, sculpture, furniture, woodcarving, jewelry, and glass art.

The Art Gallery of SnoValley is a component of the Mt. Si Artist Guild, a non-profit organization whose mission is to foster and promote the visual fine arts. This gathering of artists in the

Snoqualmie Valley also facilitates opportunities for the community to engage with artists and enjoy the arts. Unless otherwise noted, General Meetings are held at the Gallery on the third Saturday of every month, at 10:30 am. Workshops featuring guest artists follow, beginning at noon. Guests are welcome to join us for these workshops by paying the fee

for the afternoon class, which is usually between $15-$40.

The next MSAG meeting will be held on Oct. 15.

    Ernestine Whittemore

Guest artistSnoqualmie Artist Ernestine Whittemore is October’s featured MSAG Member Artist. Ernestine was drawn to the Snoqualmie area because of the beautiful scenery, great skies and the vibrant fall colors. While she is a native of the Netherlands, she has long been fascinated by the American Arts and Crafts architecture and Asian styles and influences.Ernestine challenges herself to maintain the restraint and clean lines of sumi-e and haiku, and often uses a limited color palette to attempt to convey the subtleties of nature. Painting and calligra-phy have become an important part of her meditative practice and she hopes to incorporate both in a collection of haiku in the near future.Ernestine’s art will be featured from October 1 through October 24. She can be contacted at: [email protected]

  • The Mt. Si Artist Guild holds a workshop each month from October through June featuring a variety of area artists. Recently, we were delighted to have a Colored Pencil Workshop presented by noted colored pencil artist Eileen Sorg.During this fun and inspiring workshop Eileen led the group through her artistic process; including tips and insights in working in this medium, as we each did our best to follow her instructions in creating our own colored pencil cat portraits.A very energizing workshop! MSAG members do their best to follow

Eileen’s instructions in creating their own colored pencil cat portraits.

Colored pencil artist Eileen Sorg makes it look so easy.

BE SURE TO STOP IN SOON TO SEE OUR NEWLY “REFRESHED” LOOK!

Recently we removed all paintings from the walls and each artist brought in new art to add to the gallery collection. Instead of having the artwork placed according to color, subject matter or style, each artist’s paintings are now grouped together in the gallery. This enables the viewer to see all of a particular artist’s paintings in one location. We hope you like this new arrangement.

    Cub Scouts Visit the Gallery

Recently, the Gallery was visited by a delightful Cub Scout Troop, Pack 452, Den 2, and their Den Leader, Robyn Kolke. The Scouts were working toward earning their Art Badges. They had already completed the required projects, including painting their self-portraits, and were now ready to visit an art gallery as a culminating activity.

Gallery Docent Marcia Tuttle took the Scouts on a tour of the gallery, pausing to discuss various aspects of the painted artwork. The Scouts learned to identify the various types of media used in the paintings, DOCENT AVAILABLE FOR

TOURS of the Gallery Guests are always welcome at the Art Gallery of SnoValley!

Our Docent, Marcia Tuttle, would love to take your group through the Gallery, explaining the various media and types of art on display and answering questions. Please call the Gallery at 425-213-9321for more infor-mation, or contact Marcia Tuttle directly at 425-295-1375.

and were introduced to art-related words such as landscape, portrait, and floral. Learning about the large fir table, with its “live edge” was a high point for the boys, and they also enjoyed studying the pottery, jewelry and sculpture. By the end of the tour each Scout shared a description of his favorite piece of art.

The Scouts were very interest-ed, well-behaved patrons of the Gallery – a positive experience in every way!

Snoqualmie’s RailRoad Days was a great success again this year!

The Entertainment Stages, Vendors, Grand Parade, Children’s

Field of Fun, Timber Sports Demonstrations, and food & drink venues gave festival participants and guests plenty of activities to choose from.

Guests strolled throughout Art in the Park across from the Depot, listening to various musical groups entertain in the Wine Garden on the Arts Stage. Members of the Snoqualmie Arts Commission, which include MSAG Collective Members Sally Rackets, as chair, Pam Whittington, Gayll Mor-rison, and Patricia Tamburini, have helped organize Art in the Park each year along with other commissioners.

The Art in the Park venue includes Artists in Action, Kid’s Paint Junction, Plein Air Paint Out, and the newly added Trains Around Town contest.

A number of artists and artisans, including Art Gallery of SnoValley oil painter Sally Rack-ets, acrylic painter Patricia Tamburini, and stone and woodcarver, Rickey Noel Mitchell were on hand to demonstrate their creative abilities and share their art with the crowd throughout the weekend.

Please stop in and enjoy paintings by the Gallery’s Guest Artist for Fall: MISKA, a well-known acrylic artist from Fall City. Her current paintings feature a variety of farm animals and scenes done in a lively, and sometimes whimsical style. Her show will be available for viewing until October 24.

Stop in and enjoy paintings by the Gallery’s Guest Artist this Fall: MISKA, a well-known acrylic artist from Fall City.MISKA comes from a close family of German, Russian & Yugoslavian heritage. She attended the University of Washington Art School, but is mostly a self-taught painter, studying the works of the great modern masters daily.

MISKA’s paintings are colorful and expressive, with an appealing light-heartedness in many of her animals and birds, which brings a smile to the viewer. She uses gold, bronze, copper and pearl tones giving her work an amazing reflective quality.

In August 2000, MISKA was chosen by US Art Magazine as one of 26 prominent artists to be featured and called her an “emerging success”. We are pleased to present this exciting display of her work!
