Think Spring!!!

This note was sent to me a while ago, so I thought I would pass it on to you…. It was originally written by a Rotarian, but we can relate….

THE FOUR SUPPOSES 1. Suppose the membership in a Lions Club was limited to 20; would you be in or out? 2. Suppose membership was good for one year only and reelection depended upon the service

you have given to Lions during that time; would you be reelected? 3. Suppose you were called to tell why you thought the Lions Club should keep your name on its

rolls; have you a record of helpful service to offer in your defense? 4. Suppose every member of your club did just as much as you are doing now; would your club

be the most active in NY, or would it be disappearing into obscurity?

November 20th, 2009 On this date, 96 Lions, Lioness, family members and friends gathered at the Johnstown Holiday Inn, to celebrate 30 years of Lionism in Galway. The Galway Lions Club was chartered on November 16, 1979 by Lions Clubs International, and has been providing community service to the Galway area and beyond since that date. We were honored by the presence of Past International Director Dr. Edward Cordes and Lion/Lioness Gail Cordes, along with Past International Director John Rabideau and Lion Bernie Rabideau. We were also honored by the presence of Anna McKenzie, a Stillwater High School student and vocalist. She entertained us during dinner with several musical selections. She is the granddaughter of PDG Orv and Judy Curtiss. Well done, Anna!! Charter members, Lions Don Carpenter, Orv Curtiss, Dusty Rhodes, Jim Hodsoll, Ted Lovelass, and Jon Hallgren were presented 30 year charter chevrons by 2009-2010 Galway Lions president, Lion Neila Nowicki. Charter Lions Dick Lukasiewicz and John Thibado were unable to attend. Then PID’s Cordes and Rabideau presented International Presidents Certificates of Appreciation to Lions Gerry Minkler, Adam Pandori, Ted Burton, and Bob Pandori. Well earned, well done, fellow Lions. Charter members, Lions Orv Curtiss and Dusty Rhodes, were honored with a presentation of Progressive Melvin Jones Fellowships by PID’s Ed and John. Here are few pictures of the event…….

We Remember Lion Luke On January 3rd, 2010, the Galway Lions Club lost a charter member when Lion Dick Lukasiewicz died after a brief illness. His constant smile, words of encouragement, and friendly attitude were hallmarks of this great Lion. He will long be remembered for his willing support of our annual chowder project in the Galway Village Park. On Friday, January 8th, 25 Galway Lions paid tribute to Lion Luke at the Ryan Funeral Home. Farewell, good and faithful friend. We miss you.

Treasurer's Report: Now that the holidays are over it's time to get back to Lion's business. Since the last newsletter a lot has been going on with club finances. We have received a total of $724 in donations as follows: $474 from the Food Pantry towards the new addition, $150 from Faye Thompson in appreciation for giving her rides to her doctor's appointments, and $100 from Barbara Cervenka in memory of her brother Lion George Cervenka. Our Tree Wrap fundraiser netted us $1,004. Hats off to Lion Don Pandori and all those that braved the cold to work that day. We also received our third $10,000 installment from the Dockstader Trust for the addition to the Lions building, which is quickly being spent. The final installment is on the horizon. On the Debit side we spent $13,679 to benefit our community. The majority of this is the distribution of the Walkathon money as follows: $3,573 to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, $3,548 to the American Diabetes Association, $1,774 to the Northeast Association for the Blind at Albany, and $1,774 to the Hearing Society. Closer to home we spent the following: $320 for computers for the School, $ 2,500 to the West Charlton United Presbyterian Church for the Christmas basket program, and $150 for the first three Citizenship awards given to Galway students. We also donated $40 to New Thought New York in memory of Lion Ted Chamberlin's late wife. Our next big fundraiser is the Songfest. Let's make it a good one! As usual if you have any questions about the club's finances, contact me. Lion Mark Dzierga
