Game 22: uSFLAST TIME OUT Tulane stumbled at Cincinnati, 97-75. Malik Morgan and Von Julien had big days on offense as Morgan notched the first 20-point game of his Tulane career and Julien was a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc en-route to a 12-point outing. Morgan scored the first seven points for Tulane, but Cincinnati wasted no time and established a large lead early on. The Bearcats used a pair of double-digit runs to keep the distance from the Green Wave and led by as many as 40 points in the game. Tulane went on an 11-0 run nearing the six-minute mark in the second half to chip away at the difference by never got closer than 21 points.

CAREER DAY IN CINCY Redshirt junior Malik Morgan and freshman Von Julien both put up impressive performances despite the outcome at Cincinnati. Morgan notched the first 20-point performance of his Tulane career as he scored the team’s first seven points of the game and drained four threes en-route to a 23-point day. Julien, who has been quiet on the offensive end in league play, went off for a season-best 12 points off the bench, going 4-for-4 from beyond the arc.

BLOCK PARTY The Green Wave blocked 10 shots in the game at Memphis, reaching double figures in the category for the first time since swatting 10 shots against Nicholls State on Nov. 16, 2007. Tulane made it back-to-back games with double-digit blocks when it denied 12 shots against UConn, which matches a single-game school record. The feat has been reached on four other occasions. Graduate student Jernard Jarreau leads Tulane in the category this season with 26 blocked shots, good for fourth in the league. He has tallied five blocks in two games this season (vs Prairie View A&M, vs UConn).

DOUBLE UP Sophomore Dylan Osetkowski has notched a double-double in seven games this season. Most recently, Osetkowski made it back-to-back double-doubles for the second time this year after tallying 18 points and 14 rebounds against Tulsa, and followed it up with 19 points and 14 boards at USF. Graduate student Jernard Jarreau became the second player on this year’s rosters to notch a double-double with he scored 10 points and brought down 13 rebounds in the same game. Redshirt junior Malik Morgan notched the first of his career with 11 points and 10 boards at Mississippi State.

ON THE BOARDS Tulane has out-rebounded its opponent in 13 of the 21 games this year. The Green Wave brought down 50 rebounds as a team in the win over Southern Miss, marking the first time a Tulane team as had 50-plus rebounds in a game since grabbing 51 against Lamar on Dec. 30, 2010.

TULANE VS. RANKED OPPONENTS The Green Wave hold an 11-49 record since 1989 against opponents ranked in the AP Rankings. Most recently, the Green Wave fell to No. 10 SMU, 60-45 at home.

The SMU game marked the first time Tulane has hosted a top-10 opponent since No. 1 Memphis came to New Orleans in 2008.

BACK IN ACTION Redshirt junior Kajon Mack and redshirt sophomore Cameron Reynolds have returned to action for the Green Wave after both suffering injuries in the preseason. Reynolds fractured his right thumb in a closed scrimmage at Iowa State and made his debut during the Challenge in Music City, scoring 11 points off the bench against Mercer. Mack was sidelined with a meniscus tear in his right knee. He returned at No. 11 North Carolina and had four points and two rebounds in two minutes of action late in the game.

PERFECT SHOOTING Malik Morgan didn’t miss a shot en-route to a 14-point performance against Georgia Tech. He went 6-for-6 from the field, including a pair of threes, on the day. It was the first time a Tulane player has had a perfect performance from the field since Eric Vianney went 6-for-6 against Rice on Jan. 10, 2009.

LARGEST COMEBACK The Green Wave notched its largest comeback victory in program history against Stephen F. Austin during the Challenge in Music City. Tulane trail by as many as 26 points in the game, but overcame the deficit and topped the Lumberjack on a late shot by Dylan Osetkowski for its first lead of the night and the victory. Before this victory, Tulane had never trailed by 20-or-more points and comeback to win. Since 2000, the largest deficit the team has overcome to win has been 17 points.

1,000 AND COUNTING Senior Louis Dabney entered his senior season just three points shy of the 1,000 career point mark. He became the 35TH player in Tulane history to surpass that threshold with his second bucket of the game in the season opener against Alabama A&M. He now sits at 19th all-time at Tulane with 1,267 points to date.

BIG-TIME BEGINNING A number of Tulane players got the 2015-16 season started in a big way in the opener against Alabama A&M. Washington-transfer Jernard Jarreau paced the offense with 16 points, also adding seven boards. Sophomore Dylan Osetkowski earned the first double-double of his career with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Kain Harris added a huge spark off the bench for the Green Wave, hitting three straight 3’s to position Tulane for its first lead of the game midway through the second half. LSU-transfer Malik Morgan gave the Green Wave a balanced effort in his new role as point guard with his new team. Morgan finished with nine points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.

RETURNING ON THE OTHER SIDE Tulane assistant coach Shammond Williams returned to Chapel Hill for the first time as a coach. Williams played for the Tar Heels from 1994-1998 and helped the Heels get to three

Game 22: uSFFinal Fours during his career. Williams was recently dethroned as North Carolina’s all-time leader in three-pointers made (223).

TULANE IN OVERTIME The Green Wave opened a season with an overtime game for the first time in program history when they fell to Alabama A&M, and followed it up with another overtime outing against Drake. Tulane is now 33-42 all-time in overtime games, 2-6 under Coach Conroy. The Green Wave are 2-4 all-time in back-to-back overtime games, 2-2 under Coach Conroy after falling to Alabama A&M and knocking off Drake to open the season.

STAYING LOCAL More than half of the 2015-16 Tulane roster hails from not only the state of Louisiana, but New Orleans itself. Seven players have made the choice to stay home for both their playing career and education. Louis Dabney (New Orleans, Riverside), Malik Morgan (River Ridge, John Curtis), Riley Conroy (New Orleans, Jesuit), Blake Paul (New Orleans, Landry-Walker), Von Julien (Reserve, Riverside) and Melivin Frazier (Avondale, L.W. Higgins) make up the team’s local products, and will be joined next season by recent signee Maxwell Starwood (Baton Rouge, University Lab).

LOOKING BACK Last season the Green Wave finished 15-16, seventh in league play with a 6-12 record in the American Athletic Conference. The team returned just four letterwinners and two starters (Dabney, Smith). Despite the records, the Green Wave finished the year above 500 on the road and of the dropped games, five were by a margin of six points or less.

FROM BEYOND THE ARC Tulane finished with 199 threes on the year in 2014-15, which is the fourth-most in a single season in Green Wave history. In his sixth year, Tulane head coach Ed Conroy’s teams own the top five single-season performances for three-point field goals made. Conroy’s first team set the school record with 230 during the 2010-11 campaign.

Ed Conroy is in his sixth season at the helm of the Tulane Green Wave and has guided the Green Wave a 80-81 record during the first four seasons of his tenure.

Conroy recently led Tulane to back-to-back postseason appearances with a trip to the Collegeinsider.com Tournament (CIT) in 2012-13 and to the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) in 2013-14.

The 2013-14 campaign was one of Conroy’s best coaching performances of his career. He led Tulane to a 17-17 overall record and an 8-8 mark in the program’s final year in Conference USA with a group that returned only 69 starts. The trio of Louis Dabney, freshman All-American Jonathan Stark and Jay Hook each had career-years under Conroy to help send the Green Wave into the postseason.

The trio of guards made history during the 2013-14 season. Louis Dabney (500), Jonathan Stark (494) and Jay Hook (471) all scored at least 400 points, marking the first time Tulane has had three players with at least 400 points in a season on the same team since the 1995-96 campaign. Hook also broke the school’s single-season record for three-pointers made with 83.

In 2012-13, Conroy guided Tulane to the program’s first 20-win season since 1999-2000 and the first postseason appearance since 2000. The Green Wave posted a 20-15 record and reached the second round of the Collegeinsider.com Tournament.

Tulane’s postseason victory, a 84-73, win over South Alabama in the opening round of the CIT, marked the program’s first victory in the postseason since 1996 when the Green Wave defeated Alabama in NIT Third-place Game in Madison Square Garden.

The 2012-13 team also featured two all-conference performers as Josh Davis earned first team All-C-USA and Ricky Tarrant was tabbed second-team All-C-USA. Under Conroy, Davis put together one of the most successful seasons in school history and became just the first player to score at least 600 points and pull down at least 350 rebounds in a season.

As a team, Conroy guided Tulane to the fourth most points in a season in school history and the most free throws made and attempted. The Green Wave also posted wins at SEC foe Alabama and conference rival Houston.

The 2011-12 campaign saw the Green Wave get off to the program’s best start at 12-2 since the 1994-95 team opened 13-2. Tulane claimed the Hoops for Hope and the Skip Prosser Classic titles during that stretch. During Conroy’s second season, two starters were lost due to injuries, including preseason All-Conference selection Kendall Timmons, who went down with an achillies injury during the second Conference USA game of the season on Jan. 7. Timmons’ injury did open the door for freshman Ricky Tarrant to step up and eventually earn first-team All-C-USA and the conference’s Freshman of the Year honors.

During Conroy’s first season at the helm, Tulane enjoyed a 12-4 start before losing two starters to injury. Conroy also coached the Green Wave to the most prolific three-point shooting season in the program’s history, hitting 230 long range shots, shattering the previous mark of 181 set by the 1995-96 team. Conroy’s Tulane team also had the highest assist to turnover ratio (1.098) since the 1983-84 season (1.14) and had the highest three-point field goal percentage (36.4) since the 1990-91 team’s 38.0 percent.

Tulane’s Kendall Timmons enjoyed one of the most successful sophomore seasons in school history in 2010-11 and earned second-team All-Conference USA and second-team All-District by the NABC.

Conroy, formally introduced as the 23rd coach of the Tulane University’s new head men’s basketball coach on April 7, 2010, came to Tulane after a four-year stint as the head coach at The Citadel where he posted a 36-29 overall record, including a 24-14 mark in the Southern Conference in his last two seasons. Both marks were tops in school history for wins in a two-year stretch. He has also served as an assistant coach at Coastal Carolina University, the University of Tennessee, Furman University, Virginia Military

Institute and North Carolina State University, and spent three seasons as the head coach at Division II Francis Marion University.

The Davenport, Iowa, native was named the 2008-09 Southern Conference Coach of the Year and earned NABC District 22 Coach of the Year honors after leading The Citadel to a 20-13 record that included a school record 15 conference victories. Conroy led the Bulldogs to the best turnaround in Division I that season, going from a 6-24 team into the second 20-win season in school history and the first since the 1978-79 season. He guided the Citadel to the program’s first post-season appearance in history, earning an appearance in the 2009 CIT. Conroy was also honored nationally as the Skip Prosser Man of the Year in 2009. Conroy had tremendous success on the recruiting trail at The Citadel as the program had at least one member of the five-member SoCon All-Freshman team in each of his last three seasons. In 2008, Cameron Wells became the first Citadel player to earn the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year honors. Wells completed his career in 2011 as the school’s all-time leading scorer (2055) and the first Citadel player to ever score over 2000 points. As Conroy’s players developed and improved, they reached the next level and every graduating senior from 2007-2010 at the Citadel under Conroy went on to sign professional contracts.

Prior to his tenure at The Citadel, Conroy spent one season as an assistant coach at Coastal Carolina under Buzz Peterson. In his first year with CCU, the Chanticleers went 20-10 overall and 12-4 in the Big South Conference. Coastal finished the season second in the Big South and made their first appearance in the Big South championship game since 1993.

Conroy joined Coastal after spending four years on Peterson’s staff at Tennessee, the last two as an assistant coach. Prior to being named an assistant coach, Conroy served as the Director of Basketball Operations for the Volunteers during the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons after holding the same position on Peterson’s staff at The University of Tulsa in 2000-01.

Prior to joining Peterson’s staff at Tulsa, Conroy worked for three years as the head coach at Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C. In three seasons at Francis Marion, Conroy recorded a 41-40 overall record. In his first season at FMU he led the Patriots to a 16-11 record, which was an improvement of 13 wins from the previous season and ranked as the biggest turnaround in NCAA Divisions I and II that year. Picked to finish last in the Peach Belt Conference that season, the Patriots finished second. His team’s accomplishments netted Conroy the 1998 conference coach of the year honors.

Before taking over the head coaching reins at Francis Marion, Conroy spent three years (1994-97) as an assistant coach at Furman and one year (1993-94) at Virginia Military Institute. He also spent three years (1990-93) on Les Robinson’s North Carolina State coaching staff that also included Peterson and Al Daniel.

Conroy was recruited to play basketball for The Citadel by Robinson in 1985 and was a three-year starter for the Bulldogs. He is tied for 10th in The Citadel record books for his free throw percentage in a season (84.7 in 1988) and holds down the No. 7 spot for free throw percentage in a career with 81.5. During his senior season, Conroy started all 28 games and averaged 10.1 points a game. He converted 103 three-point field goals in his career. As a senior, Conroy also served as team captain and held the rank of Lt. Colonel in the Corps of Cadets, the highest rank achieved by a basketball player in the modern era at The Citadel.

After graduating from the military school in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Conroy worked at IBM before earning his first coaching job as an assistant to Robinson at North Carolina State.

Conroy and his wife Ginny have three children, Riley, Hunt and Hannah. Riley is a redshirt freshman on this year’s Green Wave team.

GAME 1ALABAMA A&M 68, TULANE 67 (OT)

FRIDAY, NOV. 13, 2015 | NEW ORLEANS

KEYS TO THE GAME:- Dylan Osetkowski notched the first double-double of his career with 13 points and 12 rebounds.- The Green Wave never led in the first half.-Freshman Kain Harris gave Tulane a spark off the bench midway through the first half. He hit three straight threes to position the Green Wave for the lead minutes later. - Louis Dabney hit a pair of free throws with 15 seconds remaining in the game to tie it and Malik Morgan came up with big steal late to force overtime.- The Green Wave struck first in overtime but production was slow for both teams. Jernard Jarreau’s fifth foul would prove to be the difference-maker as Nicholas West went 1-for-2 from the line after the foul and the Bulldogs were able to score again with one second remaining in overtime.- This was the first time the Green Wave have ever started a season with an overtime game.
