CLUTCH RALLY HELPS RIDERS TAKE OVER FIRST PLACE: Trailing 3-1 in the seventh, the Riders rallied for four runs to knock off Corpus Chrsiti 5-3 and take over sole possession of first place in the second-half standings. Destin Hood tied the game with a two-run homer before Luis Yander La O put the Riders ahead with a two-out, two-run triple. LOVING LIFE AT THE TOP: The Riders have sole possession of first place in either half for the first time since June 23, 2017 (fourth game of the second half ). Frisco held exclusive rights to the top spot for just two days all of last season (June 21 and June 23). The club has a chance to maintain outright possession of first place for consecutive days for the first time since hold- ing it for 48 games in a row to start the first half in 2016. EEKING OUT WINS: 16 of the 23 wins for the Riders since the All-Star break have been by two runs or fewer (nine games decided by one run, seven by two) and five of the 14 losses in that span have been decided by no more than two runs. Overall, 59 of the 113 games this year have been decided by two runs or fewer (31-28). Frisco started the season 1-8 in one-run games but has gone 16-7 in those situations since then. ATTEMPTING A RARE FEAT: With a win tonight, the Riders would pull off their first sweep of Corpus Christi since June 25- 28, 2010. The Riders have played much better against the Hooks of late, winning six of their last eight meetings with the Astros affiliate. In the second half, the Riders are 7-4 against the Hooks. Should the two teams tie for the second-half crown, the first tiebreaker is head-to-head record in the second half. NICE TO MEET YOU: New trade acquisitions Taylor Hearn and Wei-Chieh Huang made their organizational debuts in impressive fashion with the Riders Friday night. Hearn: 5 1/3 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 8 K (W) - acquired from Pittsburgh Tuesday in a deal for Keone Kela Huang: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K (H) - acquired from Arizona Tuesday in a deal for Jake Diekman UPWARD TREND AT THE PLATE: The Riders have followed up an impressive month of July with a strong start to August, scoring 21 runs on 35 hits in the first four games of the new month (4-0). The Riders went 16-14 in July, their first winning month since last April (12-11) and just their third since the start of 2015 (17-4 in April 2016). The bats catalyzed the turnaround in July. Frisco scored 5.0 runs per game (most since April ‘16) and hit .284 (best since May ‘14). By contrast, the squad scored just 4.0 runs per game and hit .248 in the first three months of the season.
