CSU opens road stretch at Illinois State Colorado State (2-1, 0-0 MW) will play its second consecutive game against a Missouri Valley Conference foe, on the road this time at Illinois State (0-2, 0-0 MVC) Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. MT at Redbird Arena (10,000).

After two road contests, Illinois State hosts the Rams in its regular-season home opener. Saturday's matchup is the only home game for the Redbirds in November.

Dawning a whole new look this season, Head Coach Ryun Williams and the Colorado State women’s basketball team have hopes of becoming a top competitor in the Mountain West as Williams begins his second season with the Rams.

The game will be broadcast live on AM 1410 KIIX. Matt Wozniak, now in his fi fth season with the Rams, calls all the action. Live game video will also be available via the GoRedbirds.com/allaccess.

About Illinois State • Illinois State is projected to fi nish eighth in the Missouri Valley

Conference Preseason Poll for the 2013-14 season, and is led by senior Chloe Nelson.

• The Redbirds are currently 0-2 on their season after playing North-ern Kentucky (L, 61-48) and No.25/RV DePaul (L, 80-67).

• In the loss at DePaul, Nelson put up a career-high 18 points, but the Redbirds were crippled with the Blue Demons 31 points off of their 28 turnovers. ISU is averaging 28 giveaways early this season.

• In the 2012-13 season, the Redbirds had a 24-11 record, and went to the second round of the WNIT tournament, falling 57-48 to Kan-sas State.

• The Redbirds are under the command of fi rst-year head coach Barb Smith, after spending the 2012-13 season at Saint Louis University as the associate head coach, recruiting coordinator and offensive coordinator.

• The team returns two starters, junior Brianna Puni and sophomore Alexis Foley, and returns eight letterwinners overall.

• Nelson leads the Redbirds averaging 13.0 points per game, while Foly averages 8.5, and sophomore Octavia Crump averages 7.0.

• Crump also pulls down an impressive 9.5 rebounds per game, with Illinois State averaging 39.0 rebounds per game as a team.

Series vs. the Redbirds • Saturday’s meeting between Colorado State and Illinois State will

be the fi rst game between the two schools.• This will also be Head Coach Ryun Williams fi rst time taking on

the Redbirds.

A win will... • Be the fi rst career win by the Colorado State against Illinois State.• Improve the Rams record to 12-8 against Missouri Valley Confer-

ence teams. With 10 teams in the conference, CSU has gone un-defeated against fi ve, but has not played against Loyola-Chicago or Bradley.

• Extend Colorado State’s record to 3-1 on the season, which would be its best start since the 2005-06 campaign.

• Take advantage of the fi rst opportunity for a win on the road for the team this season.

Last time out The Colorado State women's basketball team set several career highs on Nov. 16, taking the game, 92-77, over the Drake Bulldogs at Moby Arena.

With the win, the Rams improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Bull-dogs fall to 1-2.

Senior Alicia Nichols came off of Colorado State's bench and led the team with a career-high 22 points, adding three rebounds, one assist and one block. Nichols shot a phenomenal .769 fi eld-goal percentage, converting 10 of her 13 attempts from the fi eld.

The Rams' 92 points, 42 fi rst-half points and 50 second-half points

were all season highs. The team also recorded a season-high fi eld goal percentage, .486, and three point percentage, .308. The Rams had three players reach double-fi gures by the end of the fi rst half, and CSU fi n-ished the game with fi ve players in double-digits for the second time this year.

The Rams outshot the Bulldogs from the fi eld 57.6 percent to 40.7 per-cent during the game.

This is the second time this season that the Rams have had an 80-plus point game this season, and the Rams only had one game last season that ended with scoring above 80 points. Colorado State also tallied 28 assists as a team, a season-high.

Caitlin Duffy scored 16 points, a season-high, while also recording six rebounds and three assists. Junior AJ Newton added 16 points as well, a season-high, while also registering career highs in assists (seven), and in rebounds (eight).

Junior Gritt Ryder put up her fi rst career double-double with 12 points and 10 assists. This is the seventh time in program history that a dou-ble-double includes assists, and the fi rst time since Nov. 16, 2001, when Colorado State's Elizabeth English scored 12 points and 10 assists. The 10 assists by Ryder marks a season-high, and was one short of her career high of 11. Her 12 points also ties a season-high.

Elin Gustavsson added 10 points for the Rams, three assists, and a career-high six rebounds. Senior Sam Martin and freshman Ellen Nys-trom each added eight points to the total score, with Nystrom pulling down seven rebounds, adding three assists and two steals on the night.

In the fi rst half of the game, the lead between Colorado State and Drake changed seven times, with the score being tied fi ve times. In the sec-ond half of the game, Colorado State took charge and sprinted ahead of the Bulldogs, outscoring shooting them from the three-point line .667 percent, as opposed to Drake's .333 three-point fi eld-goal percentage.

Colorado State added 50 points in the paint against the Bulldogs, which is the highest since the Rams played South Dakota Mines in Jan. 4 of last season. CSU's bench added 38 points, while Drake's bench totaled 28 points.

First Time In A Long Time • CSU's .576 fi eld-goal percentage vs. Drake on Nov. 16 was the

team's best shooting performance against a Division-I school since the Rams shot .607 vs. Tennessee-Martin on Dec. 21, 2004.

• The Rams also displayed their depth in the season opener vs. UCCS. It was the team's fi rst overtime victory since Jan. 21, 2010 vs. UNLV.

• Led by Nystrom's 20 points, six players tallied double fi gures, which is the fi rst time since fi ve or more hit that mark since Feb. 9, 2010 (Air Force).

• Both Nystrom (20p-10r) and Duffy (13p-10r) recorded double-doubles. The last time that happened also dates back to 2010 when CSU played Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Nov. 28. That was also the last time two players registered 10 or more rebounds.

• The Rams' 50 rebounds tied a team-high from last season, and the 22 offensive boards surpassed their best effort on the offensive glass last year, ranking 15th all-time in the record book.

#FeedTheSwede Colorado State’s starting freshmen tandem of Ellen Nystrom and Elin Gustavsson has proved to be an nearly unstoppable force early this sea-son, with the pair of them leading the team in fi ve statistical categories: rebounding (Nystrom; 8.7), offensive boards (Gustavsson; 10), fi eld-goals made (Gustavsson; 16), steals (Nystrom; 5) and minutes played (Nystrom; 32.7).

Each of them have already produced a 20-point game this season, which marks the best individual start for any Ram since Kim Mestdagh's (2008-12) sophomore season when she scored 17 and 21 points in the fi rst two contests in 2009.

MW Statistics Just three games into the 2013-14 campaign, CSU has proven its ability to take care of the ball, ranking in the upper echelon of Mountain West teams in six categories:

• 1st in assists (18.3) • 1st in assist/turnover ratio (1.3)• 2nd in turnover margin (+5.0)• 3rd in fi eld-goal percentage (.438)• 3rd in rebounding defense (40.0)• 1st in defensive rebounding percentage (.720)

Williams inks local talent for 2014-15 seasonThe Colorado State women's basketball program and Head Coach Ryun Williams announced that Myanne Hamm, a Fort Collins native, signed a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday, the fi rst day of the early signing period.

"Myanne grew up wanting to be a Ram,” commented Head Coach Ryun Williams. “We are excited that her dream of playing at CSU is now a reality. Myanne is a very versatile basketball player with a really nice skill set. She can score a variety of ways and defend numerous positions.”

Hamm, who was named captain of the Impalas for both her ju-nior and senior seasons, holds the fi eld- goal percentage record at Poudre High School. She led her team to a 13-3 record and earned Co- Champions of the Front Range League in 2012-13.

Hamm received a number of awards at Poudre HS. She was named second-team all-state during her junior year, fi rst-team all-conference during both her sophomore and junior years, and she earned all- conference second-team honors in her freshman year. Hamm also played against Colorado State's junior forward Kara Spotton, who is also a Fort Collins native.

Away from the court, Hamm has been named to the Dean's List during each of her three completed years of high school, and was also honored academic all-state as a freshman. She played club basketball for the Colorado Chill.

"Her high character and work ethic in the classroom makes her a great fi t for our program,” added Williams. “We are proud to have signed a great local talent from a great Poudre high school program, and local club coach Mike Portelance.”

Marquee matchups Colorado State’s 2013-14 schedule features three teams that fi nished last year's campaign receiving votes in the national polls. The Rams' fi rst test was against No. 17/19 Colorado on Tuesday. Although CSU lost, the Buf-faloes victory margin was just four points. It was the best performance against a ranked team for the Rams since upsetting No. 12/13 Utah in Mountain West tournament in 2008.

The team's next challenge will be on a neutral court in Hawai'i when the Rams face Chattanooga on Dec. 1. The Southern Conference champions fi nished last season with a 29-4 record, and were defeated by Nebraska in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

CSU's other two opponents at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wa-hine Showdown opponents, Hawai'i and Minnesota also played in the postseason in the WNIT. Both teams lost in the fi rst round.

The Rams are looking to disrupt the Mountain West standings come Jan-uary, when Colorado State begins conference play on Jan. 2 at San Diego State. The regular-season champions advanced to the second round of the WNIT during the 2012-13 campaign.

CSU will travel to 2013 Mountain West tournament champions and pre-season favorite Fresno State, on Jan. 11. Fresno State was the lone team in the MW to advance to the NCAA tournament last season, falling in the fi rst round to Final Four team, California.

Martin with exclusive company At the midpoint of last season Sam Martin reached elite status, entering the top 20 in scoring at CSU. With 1,196 points to date, the Colorado na-tive is ranked No. 13, and is just four points away from tying Sara Hunter (2004-08), who holds the 12th spot in the record book.

The Parker native also registered her 500th career rebound and her 100th career block last year. She became just the second player in CSU women's basketball history to reach 1,000 points, 500 boards and 100 denials before her senior year. The only other player to accomplish such a feat was CSU Hall of Fame member, Teresa James, who reached the goal 19 years ago during the 1994-95 season.

Appearing in nearly every statistical category (14 of 17, she isn't ranked in free-throws attempted, assists and steals), here are the Colorado na-tive's career numbers, and where she falls in the top 20 in the CSU record book:

2013-14 Colorado State Women’s Basketball

NCAA Tournament. In the fi rst round of the North Central Region he led his team to an 85-78 upset of North Dakota for the fi rst win in the NCAA tournament in the school's history. In 2005-06, Williams took Wayne State to its fi rst-ever trip to the NCAA tournament, as the team notched its best season in school history by going 27-4. They were 13-1 in NSIC play and won the NSIC tournament to earn automatic berth to the NCAA tournament. That season Williams was named the NSIC Coach of the Year.

Williams' players have received plenty of postseason recognition. He has had players named WBCA All-America honorable mention, NSIC Player of the Year and NSIC Tournament MVP. Two players earned NSIC Defensive Player of the Year honors, two won the Dodie Martin and two were named the league's new-comers of the year.

Before taking over at Wayne State, Williams was the women's head coach at Sheridan College (Wyo.) for three seasons. While there he was named the Wyo-ming Conference Coach of the Year twice and was the Region IX Coach of the Year.

In 1993 he began his head coaching career at Sheridan when he served as the volleyball head coach and men's basketball assistant coach. In his time as the head coach of the volleyball program he put together a 117-66 record. In 1995 Sheridan went 42-8, won the Region IX title and fi nished fi fth at the junior col-lege national tournament. Williams garnered Wyoming Conference and Region IX Coach of the Year honors in 1994 and 1995.

Sheridan is also where Williams began his collegiate playing career. He played two seasons at Sheridan, where he was an All-Region IX player as a sophomore. In addition he was a two-time All-Wyoming Conference performer and a two-time academic all-conference selection. He then transferred to South Dakota where he earned All-NCC honors after leading the nation in free throw percent-age at 91.2 percent. Williams was also named academic all-conference as a junior and senior. As a high school senior at Campbell County High School, he was named Mr. Basketball for the state of Wyoming in 1988.

A native of Gillette, Wyo., Williams earned his associate's degree from Sheridan in 1990, his bachelor's degree from South Dakota in 1992 and his master's degree from South Dakota in 1997.

Williams and his wife, Lyndy, have two daughters, Natalie and Emily.

Ryun Williams, a 19-year coaching veter-an, begins his second season as the head coach of the Colorado State women's bas-ketball program.

With over 20 seasons in coaching, in-cluding 18 as a head coach, Williams has compiled an impressive 323-210 career record, with stops at South Dakota (2008-12), Wayne State College (1998-2008) and Sheridan College (1995-98), leading his squads to six campaigns of 20 or more

victories, four postseason berths and one conference championship.

Before coming to Colorado State, Williams was South Dakota's head coach for four seasons. He led the Coyotes to a highly successful stretch during their transition to Division I competition, and helped them become one of the nation's premier defensive teams.

A staple of the Coyotes under Williams has been defense, and that was no ex-ception in 2011-12. They ranked second nationally in blocks per game (7.3), eighth in fi eld-goal defense (33.2) and 12th in scoring defense (52.3), lead-ing the Summit League in all three categories. The Coyotes qualifi ed for the WNIT for the fi rst time ever last season as a Division I program, which was their second straight postseason berth after competing in the Women's Basketball Invitational in 2010-11. South Dakota fi nished with a No. 97 rank in the RPI, the second-highest of any Summit League team and the highest mark in school history.

Prior to arriving at USD in 2008, Williams spent 10 seasons at Wayne State, building that program into a perennial contender in the Northern Sun Intercol-legiate Conference.

Williams took over a program that had won just 13 games the previous two sea-sons and turned it into an NCAA tournament team. His team's recorded 20 wins or more in three of his fi nal four seasons and made appearances in the NCAA Division II North Central Region tournament in two of the last three seasons. While at Wayne State, he compiled a 181-105 record (.632) and became the winningest women's basketball coach in school history.

In 2007-08, he guided the Wildcats to a 21-9 record, which included a trip to the
