1.The player who introduced the famous X salute to world tennis is outraged

Lleyton Hewitt has adopted the trademark and stands to make millions.

The former Wimbledon champion is understood to have bought the rights to the

distinctive celebratory gesture after former Swedish pro Niclas Kroon

inadvertently let it lapse.Kroon, 41, who held the rights along with former world No. 1 Mats Wilander

from 1988, often used the signal whenever they won a point or game.

Broadly meaning "for sure", it is now widely used by athletes from other sports,

including swimmer Grant Hackett and Crows defender Andrew McLeod.

3.Chelsea suffered serious financial troubles during the 1970s and 1980s

following a large-scale attempt to renovate Stamford Bridge. The financialcrisis and a subsequent change of ownership at the club culminated in thesale of the Stamford Bridge freehold to property developers Marler Estates(and subsequently Cabra Estates). The move almost saw Chelsea lose thestadium.

The future of the stadium (and hence the club) was only secured in 1992, whenthe property developers were bankrupted by a market crash, allowing thethen-chairman Ken Bates to do a deal with their bankers and to regaincontrol of the stadium for the football club.

An independent group was then formed to protect the interests and theproperty of Chelsea Football Club.

But this development has turned out to be a bane to Chelsea's plans of shiftingto a stadium of higher capacity.

5.In ice hockey, a X is a characterization of a player who attempts to antagonize

opponent players either by physical play or verbally. X employ legal, illegal,

or borderline tactics to accomplish their goals. Some common tactics include

trash talk or slashing and hooking while referees are not looking. Also, they

may sometimes employ the tactic of goading opponents into a fight but then

backing off in order to draw a penalty against them. Some X may not only

use these tactics against opposing skaters, but opposing goaltenders as

well. The X characterization has been used derogatorily, as a player who

incites anger in the opposition but is unwilling to directly confront the result of

their actions by engaging in fighting. George McPhee, general manager of

the Washington Capitals, said, "X are really the guys who have no courage.

They start stuff and don't back it up."

A calm, composed, elevated trot in place (although minimal movement forward is allowed and not

penalized in competitions as it is the natural way of performing the movement)

    Passage

    A very collected trot.

Ideally in both the piaffe and the passage tempo should be exactly the same as in trot.

    Extended gaits

Usually done at the trot and canter.

    Pirouette

A 360 or 180 (depending on the level) degree turn in place.

For once I had no injuries, despite eight operations in four years, and Id won the first two rounds

without breaking sweat including posting the fastest time in the first round heats. I was confident

and when the gun went off I got off to a good start.

I got into my stride running round the first turn and I was feeling comfortable. Then I heard a popping

X's celebration has received a lot of attention. X holds his one hand athis ear while running down the pitch, to indicate he cant hear

    anything.

He said It is from my days in Spain,. When I was at Celta Vigo in the

second division, we played Granada and I missed a penalty. Granada

went up that season to the top league, and then I moved to Rayo

Vallecano who were also in the top division. In the warm up to that

game I could hear the Granada fans shouting Hey X, please take a

penalty today. But the game finished 1-0 in our favour and I scored

the only goal. So when I scored, I just put my hand to my ear andlistened to the Granada support, but they were quiet. It was just a bit

of harmless fun with the Granada fans. Of course, now I am at

______, but I still like to do the celebration because it reminds me of

    my journey here.

11.The X is staged at a variety of courses and is set up in such a way that

scoring is very difficult with a premium placed on accurate driving.

This rotates among a fixed number of superb courses , that test a

player's skills to the hilt. It is characterized by tight scoring at or

around par by the leaders, with the winner usually emerging ataround even par.The course chosen is often noted for its tough

conditions and even tougher pin placements.

Players are tested every step of the way in this tournament. The best

    13. In colloquial usage, an ___________ is used to indicate that a record is

somehow tainted by circumstances. This usage arose after the 1961 baseballseason in which Roger Maris of the New York Yankees broke Babe Ruth's34-year-old single-season home run record. Because Ruth had amassed 60home runs in a season with only 154 games, compared to Maris's 61 over 162

games, baseball commissioner Ford Frick announced that Maris'accomplishment would be recorded in the record books with an explanation(often referred to as "__________" in the retelling). In fact, Major LeagueBaseball had no official record book at the time, but the stigma remainedwith Maris for many years, and the concept of a real or figurative__________ denoting less-than-official records has become widely used in

    sports and other competitive endeavors.

"There is a mystery behind the 7-1 debacle in the 1982 Asiad hockey final

which still haunts me. It can be dismissed as fanciful, but I still have niggling

doubts, and I feel I should share it with the reader.

There was this man called Iqbal, who always used to accompany the Pakistani

hockey team wherever they played - Lahore, Dubai and Bombay during the

1981-82 World Cup. Iqbal was also in Delhi for the 1982 Asiad, and was

supposed to be a master of mass hypnotism.

I was amazed to see Iqbal at National Stadium a day before the 1982 AsianGames men's hockey final. He was in the stands and came forward to say

hello and extended his hand. I automatically shook his hand as one would

do when people come over to greet you. I got a strange feeling, as if a spell

had been cast over me. I was not my normal self till the final ended.

I did not take this fleeting handshake with Iqbal seriously. It was only later when

I looked back that I realised that India's dismal show in the final, the frothing

in my mouth during the final, and the players' sluggish movements in the

field could all be related to something beyond hockey. I never saw Iqbal

again after being dropped from the Indian team.

In the 14th century, X was also used to mean "a single

intense effort or bout of action," most likely from the

_____ effects of such exertion. By about 1670, "X" was

used to mean the warm-up runs given to horses to

prepare them for a race, and at about the same time X

also came into use meaning "a single course in a race or

other contest," or a single contest in a series. Thus the

modern athletic sense of X was born from the sweat of

    horses.

18.The rise ________ is one of the most unlikely stories in modern sport. The

secret behind its success lies in a small village called Iten, in the Rift Valley,

where a 63-year-old Irish priest Brother Colm OConnell, a Catholic

missionary has turned into an inspirational coach.

Brother O'Connell arrived in Iten, 2,400 metres above sea level in the Rift

Valley, in 1976, to teach geography on a three year contract.

Thirty-five years later he is still there. In that time he has mentored 25 world

champions and four Olympic gold medallists, acquiring what he calls a sixth

Reggie Miller scored 25 points in the 4th quarter of the Knicks-Pacers 1995

ECF Game 5. The New York papers blamed this on Spike Lee who kept

trash-talking with him throughout the game from the sidelines. Reggie

seemed to draw inspiration from the conversation. This lead to the Knicks

giving up a big lead to lose the game and eventually the series.
