After concluding their 2014 campaign with a 74-70 (.514) record, Tacoma recorded the club’s 28th winning season in franchise history (since 1960). The team’s 74 wins rank tied for the 24th- most collected in a single season. PAT ON THE BACK: Pat Listach makes his first appearance as the Rainiers manager tonight and is the 30th manager in Tacoma history. Listach served as the manager of fellow PCL club Iowa in 2002 and 2008, when he was named PCL Manager of the Year. He led those teams to a combined 110-87 (.558) record. He has also manged two seasons in the Southern League with West Tennessee, going 148-130 (.532). Originally drafted by the Mariners in 1987 out of McLennan College, Listach began his 11-year professional career with the Brewers after they drafted him in the fifth round of the 1988 draft. Listach was named American League Rookie of the Year in 1992 after hitting .290/.352/.349 (168x579) with 47 RBI. A STRONG PRIES: Tonight’s starting pitcher Jordan Pries, who started 24 games for the Rainiers in 2014, was named the Mariners MILB Co-Pitcher of the Year. Went a combined 10-8 with a 3.68 ERA across 27 starts with Tacoma and Double-A Jackson. Since his professional debut in 2011, Pries has never pitched on Opening Day. GOOD TO SEE YOU: El Paso outfielder Abraham Almonte played a total of 166 games with the Rainiers from 2013-14. He hit a combined .293 (180x615) with 17 HR and 81 RBI. RHP Stephen Kohlscheen spent the his first five professional season within the Mariners organization, including a brief stint in Tacoma in 2014. in 15 relief appearances last year, Kohlscheen went 2-0 with a 3.28 ERA (9ERx24.2IP). RHP Kevin Quackenbush made four relief appearances against the Rainiers in 2013, logging 5.2 scorless innings. RHP Brandon Maurer began his professional career with seven season in the Mariners organization. He made 22 appearances (11 GS) with Tacoma in 2013 and 2014. Maurer went 4-4 with a 4.50 ERA (33ERx66.0IP). FAMILIAR FOES: Chihuahuas starting pitcher Jason Lane has taken the mound nine times (2 GS) against the Rainiers since 2011. He has gone 2-0 with a 6.20 ERA (14ERx20.1IP) and 18 strikeouts. In his two starts against Tacoma he has logged a 1-0 record and 6.55 ERA (8ERx11.0IP). BLASH OFF: In seven games against El Paso in 2014, Rainiers outfielder Jabari Blash hit .370 (10x27) with three doubles, six home runs, and 17 RBI. Blash hit a career-high three home runs on June 3 at El Paso. He was one of four Pacific Coast League players and one of only 32 minor league players to acheive the feat in 2014. His seven RBI in that game were tied for ninth most in a single game in the minors. QUEST FOR 4000: The Rainiers open the season 17 victories shy of 4,000 all-time franchise wins. Since 1960, Tacoma has put together a record of 3983-3959 (.502). The Rainiers record as an affiliate of the Seattle Mariners is 1460-1403 (.510). ARE YOU EXPERIENCED: Tacoma’s Opening Day roster features 14 players with Major League experience, totaling 2345.2 innings pitched and 4839 at-bats. Left-handed pitcher Joe Saunders leads all pitchers with 1387.1 innings pitched over 10 years in the Majors. Outfielder Franklin Gutierrez has recorded 762 games and 2557 at-bats in the Majors, more than any other Rainiers position player.
