GAMES FROM GREECE11th Primary School of Alexandroupoli

INDOOR GAMES:1.“ BROKEN TELEPHONE” In order to choose who is going to start first we use

many ways, most of which are in the form of rhymes.

One goes like this: Akata-macata-sukutu-pe ave –tave –domi-ne- akata-makata-sukutu-pe ave –tave –vge (it doesn’t mean anything

in Greek)

Children stand in a circle and one of them becomes the “Mother” who says the rhyme above.

Every “word” refers to a different child so the one who gets the last one “vge” starts first.

RULES

Children stand in a row one next to the other (usually more than 6 children)

The first one thinks of a word and whispers it into the ear of the child next to him/her quickly.

Every child does the same thing. They can’t repeat the word . Everyone whispers the word that they think they have heard.

The last child in the row says the word loudly but most of the times it ends up a totally different word from the first one!!

becomes the king. The others say all together: King, oh, King with the 12 swords, What work?He answers: laziness! They say: Laziness? Time for work!He replies: What work? Then the king mimes a certain kind of work or a job.The child who guesses first what he does, becomes

the king.

Page 8: Games from greece

WE NEED: A BALL, TWO TEAMS OF ABOUT 8 CHILDREN EACHAND 9 PIECES OF A BROKEN BRICK.

The children are divided into 2 teams. One of them tosses a coin and the team that wins, starts first.

They put the 9 broken brick pieces one on top of the other in the middle of a circle they have marked on the ground (about 2.5 m in diameter)

The two teams stand in two lines one next to the other in a distance of about 5 m from the stones

The team which starts first throws the ball to the stones and try to knock them down. If they can’t do it , the other team tries until somebody from either team manages to hit the brick pieces.

When this happens, they scatter the pieces in the circle

The team that has lost must try to rebuild the ‘tzami’ in the middle of the circle

The team that managed to hit the stones take the ball and try to “burn”-hit all the players of the opposite team and not let them rebuild it

If they rebuild it they win If all of them are “burnt” before that the

other team wins.
