In the ongoing series of programmes on 150th birth anniversary of Father of Nation

Mahatma Gandhi, Press Information Bureau, Aizawl organised a webinar on the life and

teachings of Bapu on 14th September 2020. The topic of webinar was 'Relevance of Mahatma's

teachings in the Mizos way of life'. Assistant Professor of Indian Institute of Mass

Communication IIMC, Aizawl Dr. C Lalmuansangkimi delivered a speech on the above topic. In

his welcome address, Director, PIB Imphal Mr Abhishek Dayal said that Mahatma Gandhi found

humanism in every culture and religion. He said Mahatma Gandhi's central message was to work

for the poorest person of the country and strive for a just and happy society. In her speech, Dr

Lalmuansangkimi said that teachings of Mahatma Gandhi are multifaceted. She said that much

of the Mahatma's teachings can be related to the Mizo way of life including his idea of

cleanliness, community service and peaceful coexistence. Assistant Director, PIB Aizwal Mr

Shariq Noor gave vote of thanks and remembered Mahatma Gandhi's love for Hindi and other

mother tongues.

More than 30 participants attended the webinar including journalists from Miozram and officers

of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting across North East. The webinar got good coverage

in media.

Gandhiji’s stress on cleanliness and community service has a great resonance with Mizo culture

PIB Aizawl organises webinar on Mahatma Gandhi

We would be paying true tribute to Mahatma Gandhi if we devote ourselves to civic cleanliness and community service. This was the thrust of deliberations at the webinar on "Relevance of Mahatma's teachings in the Mizos way of life" organized byPress Information Bureau and Field Outreach Bureau, Aizawl today.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr.C.Lalmuansangkimi, Assistant Professor, Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), said that Mahatma Gandhi continues to inspire to people of all nations and cultures, even 70 years after his passing away. Much of his teaching can be related to the Mizo way of life, including his idea of cleanliness, community service and peaceful co-existence, she said. Dr Kimi said that according to Gandhi, collective and civic cleanliness is as important as personal cleanliness.Mahatma’s firm faith in non-violence has

influenced Mizo people and has been a factor in the establishment of peace in the state for the last 30 years, Dr Kimi said. She also touched upon Gandhiji’s ideas on education and related it to the new National Education Policy which has given stress to use of mother tongue in early learning.

During the discussion, it was noted that many of the recent major policy decisions including various aspects of Atmanirbhar Bharat and National Education Policy have a deep connect with basic tenets of Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings.

In his welcome address, Shri Abhishek Dayal, Director, Press Information Bureau, Imphal said that the influence of Mahatma in the various cultures across the world was due to his basic humanism which was the legacy of so many known influences in his life, including Vaishnavism and Christianity. He added that we must not forget that his central message was to work for the poorest person in the country and strive for a just and happy society.

In his vote of thanks, Shri Shariq Noor, Assistant Director, PIB Aizawl said that it would be befitting homage to the father of our nation if we implement his teachings into our daily life.

The webinar was attended by over 20 officials of the North East Zone, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, members of the media and officials of state government.
