Große Alice im Wunderland-Ausstellung

A great Alice in Wonderland exhibition

‘Seit fast 150 Jahren fasziniert Lewis Carrolls Geschichte von Alice im Wunderland Kinder wie Erwachsene gleichermaßen. Nun wird ihr

und den künstlerischen Reaktionen, die sie ent-fachte, erstmals eine Ausstellung gewidmet, die vom 25. Februar bis 3. Juni im Museum für moder-ne und zeitgenössische Kunst, Mart, in Rovereto zu sehen ist. Die Schau wurde von der Tate Liver-pool in Kooperation mit der Hamburger Kunsthalle sowie dem Mart organisiert. Sie umfasst rund 200 Werke aus 150 Jahren Kunstgeschichte, darunter Gemälde, Zeichnungen, Buchillustrationen, Skulp-turen, Fotografien, Filme und Rauminstallationen. Die Vielfalt der künstlerischen Interpretationen verwandelt die Ausstellung selbst in ein buntes Wunderland.

Sie beginnt mit den Originalillustrationen von Sir John Tenniel, die die erste gedruckte Ausgabe „Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland“ zierten sowie

den Werken von Lewis Carroll selbst, der nicht nur Schriftsteller sondern auch Mathematikprofessor, Fotograf und Kunstsammler war. Ausgehend von seinen vielfältigen und sehr persönlichen Fotogra-fien bietet die Ausstellung einen einmaligen Ein-blick in Carrolls künstlerisches und menschliches Schaffen. Der weitere Verlauf der Ausstellung zeigt Werke von Salvdor Dalí, Max Ernst, Dorothea Tan-ning sowie den exzellenten Film „Alice in Wonder-land“ von René Magritte.

Sie alle fühlten sich durch Alice in ihrer Su-che nach dem Fantastischen bestärkt. Auch die Künstler der 1960er und 1970er Jahre ließen sich von Alice beeinflussen, was insbesondere in vielen Werken der Pop und Psychedelic Art deutlich wird. Und schließlich zeigen Arbeiten zeitgenössischer Künstler wie Anna Gaskell, Kiki Smith oder Tors-ten Lauschmann, dass die Faszination an Alice bis heute ungebrochen ist.

Das Mart hat montags bis sonntags von 10.00 bis 18.00 Uhr, freitags sogar bis 21.00 Uhr geöff-net. Der Eintritt kostet 11, ermäßigt 7 Euro. Fami-lien bezahlen 22 Euro, der Eintritt für Kinder bis 14 Jahre ist frei. Neben den wechselnden thema-tischen Ausstellungen beherbergt das vom Star-architekten Mario Botta entworfene Museum mo-derne und zeitgenössische Kunst der Extraklasse. Es befindet sich im corso Bettini 43 und ist ab der Autobahnausfahrt Rovereto Nord ausgeschildert. Weitere Informationen gibt es unter www.mart.trento.it.

‘For almost 150 years Lewis Carroll‘s story of Alice in Wonderland has been fascinating children and adults in the same way. Now a

first exhibition will be dedicated to it, also in relation with the artistic reactions that the story provoked, at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Mart in Rovereto from 25 February to 3 June. The exhibit is organized by the Tate Liverpool in co-operation with the Hamburger Kunsthalle and the Mart. It includes about 200 works from 150 years of art history, composed by paintings, drawings, book illustrations, sculptures, photographs, films and installations.

The variety of artistic interpretations transforms the exhibition itself into a colorful wonderland. It begins with the original illustrations by Sir John Tenniel, which adorned the first printed edition of „Alice‘s Adventures in Wonderland“ and the works of Lewis Carroll himself, who was not only a wri-ter but also a mathematics professor, photogra-pher and art collector. Based on its diverse and highly personal photographs, the exhibition offers

a unique insight into Carroll‘s artistic and human creativity. The further course of the exhibition shows works by Salvador Dalí, Max Ernst, Doro-thea Tanning and the excellent film „Alice in Won-derland“ by Rene Magritte. They all felt encoura-ged by Alice in her quest for the fantastic. Also the artists of the 1960s and 1970s were influenced by Alice, which is especially evident in many works of pop and psychedelic art. And finally, the works of contemporary artists, like Anna Gaskell, Kiki Smith or Torsten Lauschmann, show that the fascination of Alice is unbroken until the present days.

The Mart is open from Monday to Sunday from 10.00 to 18.00, on Fridays even until 21.00 clock. Admission is 11, reduced 7 Euro. Families pay 22 Euro, the entry for children under 14 is free. In addition to the changing thematic exhibitions, the Mart houses modern and contemporary art at its best. Designed by the star architect Mario Botta, it is located in Corso Bettini 43 and is signposted from the motorway exit at Rovereto Nord. More information is available at www.mart.trento.it.

‘Am südlichen brescianer Gardaseeufer zwi-schen Desenzano und Salò liegt das Valte-nesi, eine liebliche Hügellandschaft mit Wie-

sen, Weingärten, Zypressen und Olivenbäumen, mittelalterlichen Kirchen und Festungen, herrlichen Stränden und sieben malerischen Dörfchen: Pa-denghe del Garda, Moniga del Garda, Manerba del Garda, San Felice del Benaco, Puegnago sul Garda, Polpenazze del Garda und Soiano del Gar-da. Die Uferzone des Valtenesi ist recht breit, da die Gardesana nicht direkt am See vorbeiführt. Hier wechseln sich kleine Häfen, hübsche Bade-buchten und weitläufi ge Strände ab. Eine recht außergewöhnliche Badestelle ist die nördlich von Manerba gelegene Zypresseninsel San Biagio, zu der man in der Regel durch seichtes Wasser hinüberwaten kann. Im Landesinneren zeugen zahlreiche Burgen oder deren Reste von der be-wegten Geschichte des Valtenesi, denn die Ge-gend war früher aufgrund ihrer Fruchtbarkeit und der ungeschützten Lage häufi g in bittere Kämpfe verwickelt.

meadows, vineyards, cypresses and olive trees, medieval churches and castles, beautiful be-aches and seven picturesque villages: Padenghe del Garda, Moniga del Garda, Manerba del Gar-da, San Felice del Benaco, Puegnago sul Garda, Polpenazze del Garda and Soiano del Garda. The riparian Valtenesi area is quite bright because the Gardesana street does not run directly along the lake. Here there are little harbors, pretty bays whe-re to jump into the lake, and expansive beaches. A rather unusual place to have a bath is the cypress island of San Biagio, north of Manerba. Usually it is possible to get there wading through the low wa-ter. In the interior part of the Valtenesi many castles and its remains witness the turbulent history of this area. Due to its fertility and unprotected position it was often involved in bitter fi ghtings.

Valtenesi Doc - Ein neuerGardasee-Wein

Valtenesi Doc -A new Lake Garda wine

‘Seit der Weinlese 2011 wird aus der im Valtenesi seit Jahrhunderten angebauten Groppello-Traube erstmals der Valtenesi

Doc gekeltert. Mit dem frischen Chiaretto Valtene-si Doc konnte bereits am diesjährigen Valentinstag angestoßen werden, den ersten Schluck vom ro-ten Valtenesi Doc gibt es dann am 1. September zu probieren. Der Valtenesi Doc ist der 23. Doc-Wein der Lombardei und stellt für das Valtenesi eine Rückkehr zu den Ursprüngen dar. Früher wurde der Wein der Gegend als Riviera del Garda Bresciano Doc bezeichnet, ehe er dann mit zahl-reichen anderen Weinen unter dem Begriff Garda Classico Doc zusammengefasst wurde.

Am Wein selbst ändert sich durch den neuen Namen nicht viel, nur dass bezüglich der verwen-deten Traubensorten etwas strengere Vorgaben herrschen. Wie die bisherigen Weine des Valtensi

besteht der Valtenesi Doc aus Groppello-, San-giovese-, Barbera- und Marzemino-Trauben. Der Groppello-Mindestanteil wurde nun aber von 30 auf 40 Prozent angehoben und soll für den Rot-wein perspektivisch sogar einen Anteil von 70 bzw. 100 Prozent erreichen.

Von der Qualität des Chiaretto Valtenesi Doc kann man sich vom 1. bis 3. Juni 2012 in Moni-ga del Garda überzeugen, wenn dort das große Weinfest „Italia in Rosa“ gefeiert wird, bei dem Rosé-Weine aus ganz Italien präsentiert werden.

‘From Groppello grapes, which have been growing for centuries in the Valtenesi, since the vintage of 2011 the first Valtenesi Doc is

produced .Already on this year‘s Valentine‘s Day it was possible to toast with the fresh Chiaretto Val-tenesi Doc. For everybody the first sip of the red

Valtenesi Doc can be tasted on 1 September. The Valtensi Doc is the 23th Doc wine of Lombardy and represents a return to the roots. Once, the wine of the region was named Riviera del Garda Bresciano Doc, later the denomination of Garda Classico Doc was used to indicate many other wines.

The wine itself is almost the same, except that there are stricter requirements regarding the used grapes. Like the previous wines of the Valtenesi the Valtenesi Doc, it is made of Groppello, Sangiovese, Barbera and Marzemino grapes. The minimum amount of Groppello was now increased from 30 to 40 percent and for the future it is planned that it has to reach even 70 or 100 percent.

You can taste the Chiaretto Valtenesi Doc from 1 to 3 June 2012 when Moniga del Garda celebrates the great wine festival „Italia in Rosa“, presenting rosé wine from all over Italy.

‘Gourmets will like the excellent wine and the superb olive oil of the Valtenesi, which is characterized by its low acidity. Another

evidence of the copiousness of the moraine hills is that truffles grow here wonderfully well. Families will find there many child- friendly campsites, most have private beaches.

And like everywhere else on the lake there are so many sports the Valtenesi has to offer. It is very attractive to explore the beautiful rolling hills by bike. At the tourist information offices you will find many maps with various bike tours, raging from family-friendly ones to easy and intermediate mountain bike trails. In addition, the Valtenesi is also popular among golfers: in Soiano there is a very well-kept, ultra-modern 27-hole golf course.

Attractive shopping and trendy nightlife can be found in the neighboring town of Desenzano and Salò, and even Brescia is not far from the Valte-nesi.

Attraktive Shoppingmöglichkeiten und ange-sagte Nightlife-Locations findet man in den angren-zenden Städtchen Desenzano und Salò und auch nach Brescia ist es vom Valtenesi nicht weit.

‘Das Management der Arena di Verona konn-te für die Saison 2011 trotz der Kürzungen im kulturellen Bereich eine positive Bilanz

ziehen. Für die 49 Aufführungen, die vom 17. Juni bis 3. September 2011 das Programm der 89. Opernfestspiele darstellten, wurden insgesamt 465.500 Eintrittskarten verkauft. Das bedeutet ein Plus von sechs Prozent gegenüber dem Vor-jahr. Jede Vorführung wurde von durchschnittlich 9.500 Zuschauern besucht. Die beliebteste Oper der Saison 2011 war „La Traviata“ von Guiseppe Verdi mit einer durchschnittlichen Besucherzahl von 11.076 pro Aufführung. Auch dieses Jahr ste-hen vom 22. Juni bis 2. September wieder große Opern auf dem Programm. Klassik-Fans können sich während der 90. Opernfestspiele auf Verdis „Aida“, Mozarts „Don Giovanni“, Bizets „Carmen“,

Gounods „Roméo et Juliette“ sowie Puccinis „Tos-ca“ und „Turandot“ freuen. Engagiert wurden dafür wie jedes Jahr einige der bekanntesten Stimmen der Opernszene, die vom Arena eigenen Orches-ter, Chor und Tanzensemble begleitet werden.

Stimulating classical music

‘Lust auf Klassik möchte die „Classical Music World“ in Verona vor allem jungen Leuten machen. Die Klassik-Messe, die in ihrer ersten Ausgabe vom 19. bis 22. April 2012 auf dem Messegelände in Verona stattfi ndet,

hat mit Sony Classical Italia und Feltrinelli zwei große und engagierte Unter-stützer dieses Vorhabens gefunden.

Die Messe ist inhaltlich in drei Bereiche unterteil: Expo, Tutorial und Events. Im Ausstellungsbereich trifft man auf die verschiedenen in der Klassik-Branche tätigen Firmen, vom Hersteller für Musikinstrumente über die Plattenfi rmen bis zu den Musikschulen und Konservatorien. Im Bereich Tutorial geht es um Wei-terbildung und Vertiefung des musikalischen Wissens. So erwarten die Mes-sebesucher Livekonzerte mit Erklärungen zum Verständnis der klassischen Musik sowie Vorträge und Seminare von und mit Experten der Branche. Mit der so genannten Master Class bietet die „Classic Music World“ Musikern die Möglichkeit, sich mit Fachleuten auszutauschen und von deren Wissen und Können zu profi tieren. Dem dritten Sektor der Messe, den Events, wird vom Veranstalter besondere Bedeutung beigemessen, um die Lust auf Klassik zu wecken. Der Höhepunkt der Livekonzerte ist sicherlich der Auftritt des brillan-ten Pianisten Andrea Bacchetti am Sonntag 22 April um 18.00 im „Auditorim Verdi“ des Kongresszentrums der Messe Verona. Ein weiteres Highlight ist das Konzert des Ensembles „Il Rossignolo“, eine auf altertümliche Musik spe-zialisierte Gruppe, die ihr neustes Werk „Germanico“ präsentiert. Außerdem fi ndet während der „Classical Music World“ der Nachwuchswettbewerb „3° Concorso Internazionale Giovani Musicisti Premio Antonio Salieri” statt.

Die Messe hat für alle Interessierten –ob Musiker, Musikliebhaber oder neugierig Gewordene – täglich zwischen 10.00 und 20.00 Uhr geöffnet. Der Eintritt kostet 15, reduziert 12 Euro. ‘That is what the „Classical Music World“ in Verona wants to promote especially for young people. The fi rst edition of the Classic fair, which has Sony Classical Italia and Feltrinell as principal sponsors for this project,

will be held from 19 to 22 April 2012 at the fairgrounds in Verona.The fair is divided in three areas: expo, tutorial and events. In the exhibi-

tion area there is a large number of companies dealing with music: musical instruments manufacturers, record labels companies, music schools and con-servatories.

The tutorial section is about further training and deepening of musical knowledge. Live concerts with explanations to understand classical music as well as lectures and seminars with experts await the visitor. The so-called Master Class of the „Classical Music World“ offers to musicians the oppor-tunity to interact with specialists and benefi t from their knowledge and skills. To the third area the organizers give a particular importance. It is dedicated to events which have the purpose to stimulate interest in classical music. The highlight of the live concerts is certainly the presence of the brilliant pianist Andrea Bacchetti on Sunday 22 April at 18.00 o’clock in the „Auditorim Verdi“ of the Congress Centre of Verona Fair. Another highlight is the concert of the ensemble „Il Rossignolo,“ a group specialized in ancient music, which will present the newest work „Germanico“. During the „Classical Music World” there is also the talent competition „3° Concorso Internazionale Giovani Mu-sicisti Premio Antonio Salieri“.

Die Ostertage am Gardasee

‘Genau wie Natur erwachen spätestens zu Ostern auch die Orte rund um den Gardasee aus ihrem Winterschlaf. Es blüht und grünt.

Überall herrscht geschäftiges Treiben. Strahlend bunte Häuserfassaden und frühlingshaft deko-rierte Schaufenster laden zum Bummeln und Fla-nieren ein. Auch dem Shopping-Vergnügen steht nichts im Wege, denn die Geschäfte am Gardasee haben an den Ostertagen geöffnet.

Am Karfreitag, der in Italien übrigens kein Feier-tag ist, finden vielerorts Prozessionen statt, die ein fester Bestandteil der italienischen Ostertradition sind. Am Gardasee wird zum Beispiel Jahr für Jahr in der mittelalterlichen Kulisse von Brenzone der Leidensweg Christi inszeniert. Ein eindrucksvolles Erlebnis, das gegen 20.00 Uhr in der Pfarrkirche von Castelletto di Brenzone beginnt (s. Seite 16).

Zur Ostertradition gehört außerdem die „Co-lomba Pasquale“, ein Kuchen in Taubenform, der, ähnlich dem weihnachtlichen „Panettone“, aus ei-nem luftigen Hefeteig besteht. Er fehlt auf keinem Tisch, wenn am Ostersonntag im großen Familien- und Freundeskreis ausgiebig geschlemmt wird.

In Pieve di Tremosine am westlichen Gardasee wird an Ostersonntag traditionell das so genann-te „Festa dello S-ciapì“ veranstaltet. Dies ist ein großes gemeinschaftliches „Ostereiertitschen“ auf dem Dorfplatz, zu dem Alt und Jung, Einheimische und Urlauber ganz herzlich eingeladen sind. Los geht es gegen 9.30 Uhr. Abends finden dann in vielen Kirchen rund um den See klassische Oster-konzerte statt.

In Arco, dem Luftkurort am nördlichen Garda-

see, kommen Freunde klassischer Musik nicht nur am Ostersonntag auf ihre Kosten. Vom 31. März bis 9. April 2012 werden dort die unter dem Na-men „Pasqua Musicale Arcense” bekannten Oster-konzerttage veranstaltet.

An Ostermontag, der in Italien „Pasquetta“ heißt, geht es gemäß dem traditionellen Brauch raus ins Grüne. Schon vor vielen Jahrhunderten feierten die Menschen das Ende der Fastenzeit, in dem sie gemeinsam zum Picknicken, Singen und Tanzen in die Natur gingen. Heutzutage finden an „Pasquetta“ vielerorts Dorffeste statt, die schon allein aufgrund ihres Angebots an einfachen tradi-tionellen Gerichten einen Besuch lohnen.

Wer seinen Osterausflug nach Bardolino plant, trifft doch während der gesamten Festtage auf ei-nen Ostermarkt, der sich vor allem ums Olivenöl und den guten Bardolino-Wein dreht.

Easter on Lake Garda

‘Just like nature the villages around the lake awake from its winter sleep no later than at Easter. New leaves push up toward the light

and the plants start to bloom. There is hustle and bustle everywhere. Bright colorful facades and spring decorated shop windows invite to shop and stroll. And there is no limit for the shopping expe-rience, because the shops on the lake are open during the Easter holidays.

On Good Friday, which in Italy is not a holiday, processions are held in many places. These con-stitute an integral part of the Italian Easter tradition, as for example the procession of Christ’s passion in the medieval setting of Brenzone. It is really an impressive experience, that starts at around 20.00 o’clock in the Parish Church of Castelletto di Bren-zone (see page 16).

The typical Italian Easter cake is the „Colomba Pasquale“, a cake in a pigeon form, which consists of a soft leavened dough like the Christmas „panet-tone”. They are on each table when the numerous Italian family members and friends come together to celebrate on Sunday the big Easter lunch.

On Easter Sunday in Pieve di Tremosine, a vil-lage situated on the western part of Lake Garda, the so called „Festa dello S-ciapì” takes place. Old and young, locals and tourists come together at 9.30 a.m. at the village square to play an old Easter game, that consists in hitting and breaking hard-boiled eggs.

For lovers of classical music at Arco, the health resort on the northern lake, there are concerts not only on Easter Sunday, but also from 31 March to 9 April 2012, when the „Pasqua Musicale Arcense“ organizes the famous Easter concert days.

Following an old tradition, all Italians go out for a picnic in the countryside on Easter Monday, the so called „Pasquetta“ (little Easter). Already many centuries ago people celebrated the end of Lent, singing, dancing and having picnics in nature. Nowadays on „Pasquetta“ lots of local village fes-tivals are held. Many are worth a visit just for their exceptional offer of simple regional dishes.

Blütenpracht am südlichen Gardasee

fene Initiative „Brindisi d’amore”. Sie ermöglicht, nach der Trauung in den von der Stadt Verona zur Verfügung gestellten Räumlichkeiten noch auf das Wohl des Brautpaares anzustoßen. Die Initiative wird dem Brautpaar in Zusammenarbeit mit der Firma Vip Cellar di Antonella Bampa, Sommelier und Weinexpertin, angeboten. Die Hochzeitsfei-ern – wie auch alle anderen Feierlichkeiten - des Projektes „Sposami a Verona“ werden stets durch Musik und andere liebevolle Details bereichert, um als wirklich unvergessliche Augenblicke in Er-innerung zu bleiben. Above all, the house of Juliet „Casa di Giulietta“ seduces particularly for its romantic legend of eternal love and attracts people from all over the world, who wants to seal here their love.

During 2010 and 2011 „Sposami a Verona „ became more and more extensive. The involved

‘Jahr für Jahr zieht die Karfreitags-Prozession in Brenzone Touristen und Einheimische gleichermaßen in ihren Bann und ist ein schöner Sai-sonauftakt für die kleine Gardasee-Gemeinde. Brenzone am Ostufer

des Gardasees ist ein Zusammenschluss mehrere kleiner Ortschaften am Fuße des Monte Baldos. Die Prozession beginnt am 6. April 2012 um 20.15 Uhr in der Pfarrkirche von Castelletto, Brenzones größtem Ort. Von hier führt sie durch Castellettos historisches Zentrum und dann steil aufwärts durch malerische Olivenhaine bis sie im alten Dörfchen Biasa endet. Die Prozession wird vom Pfarrer der Gemeinde angeführt. Vor jeder der 14 Kreuzwegstatio-nen bleibt er kurz stehen und erzählt über Mikrofon das Wesentliche zu den einzelnen Etappen. Eine Begleitperson übersetzt die Worte des Pfarrers auch ins Deutsche. Die Teilnehmer tragen farbige Fackeln, die man vor der Kirche erhält, und entlang des Weges sind weitere Lichter aufgestellt, Die Kreuz-wegstationen werden in stimmungsvoll beleuchteten Höfen, Aufgängen oder Gärten inszeniert. aus. Zur Berühmtheit gelangte der nördlich von Verona gelegene Landstrich allerdings durch seine Weine. Und eben die stehen im Mittelpunkt, wenn vom 27. April bis 1. Mai in Pedemonte das „53. Festa dei vini classici della Valpo-licella e Recioto” gefeiert wird, ein Fest das insbesondere wegen seines at-traktiven Rahmenprogrammes weit über die Gemeindegrenze hinaus bekannt ist. Seit 15 Jahren wird anlässlich des Weinfestes der Schlemmerspaziergang Magnalonga veranstaltet. Auf einem 10 Kilometer langen Rundweg, der den Teilnehmern Augen- und Gaumenschmaus garantiert, geht es am 29. April 2012 durch die malerische Hügellandschaft um Pedemonte. Unterwegs wer-den sieben verschiedene Valpolicella-Weine und ebenso viele lokaltypische Leckereien verköstigt. Wer mitmachen möchte, kann sich ab dem 26. Dieser aus dem Mittelalter stammende Wettbewerb, wird traditionell zwischen einzelnen Weinorten ausgetragen, die sich dabei in Disziplinen wie zum Beispiel Weinfässer-Wettrollen messen – ein sehenswertes Spektakel. Das Örtchen Pedemonte gehört zur Gemeinde San Pietro in Cariano, liegt etwa 8 Kilometer nördlich von Verona und ist von dort über Parona di Valpo-licella zu erreichen.

For the past 15 years for example the gourmet walk Magnalonga is organized during the festival. On a 10 km long trail the participants can enjoy on 29 April 2012 the picturesque hills of Pedemonte and in the same time please the palate. ‘26 interessante Exkursionen werden von März bis Oktober 2012 im Mincio-Naturpark und den angrenzenden Gemeinden organisiert.

Der Naturpark umfasst die gesamte Uferzone des gleichnamigen Flusses und erstreckt sich von Pe-schiera del Garda am südlichen Gardasee bis zur Po-Mündung. Im ersten Abschnitt fließt der Mincio durch eine liebliche Moränenhügellandschaft vor-bei an mittelalterlichen Dörfern und eindrucksvol-len Festungen. Weiter südlich ist durch den mä-andernden Flussverlauf ein breites Feuchtgebiet entstanden, das eine unglaubliche Artenvielfalt an

Pflanzen und Tieren beheimatet. Die Ausflüge fin-den alle im ersten Abschnitt statt, in dem „Streifen Toskana“ zwischen dem südlichen Gardasee und Mantova. Sie werden von erfahrenen Archäologen, Biologen oder Outdoor-Guides geleitet, sind mal zu Fuß, mal mit dem Fahrrad und möchten die Teil-nehmer jedes Mal etwas Besonderes erleben und entdecken lassen. Oft stehen auch kulinarische Stopps auf dem Exkursionsprogramm, so dass man neben Landschaft, Geschichte und Kultur auch die kulinarischen Besonderheiten des Mincio-Naturparks kennenlernen kann. Die Teilnahme an

Der erste Termin ist der 25. März mit einer Wanderung in Cavriana. Weiter geht es dann am 21. April mit einer Tour von Castiglione delle Stivie-re nach Solferino und am 22. April wird Castellaro Lagusello (Monzambano) erkundet. Die folgenden Termine sind der 28., 29. und 30. April sowie der 1. Mai. nities. The Mincio natural park, covering the entire banks of the river, goes from Peschiera del Garda in the southern part of Lake Garda to the Po del-ta. In the first river section the Mincio flows along lovely moraine hills, old medieval villages and im-pressive fortresses. In the south a broad wetland, created by the meandering river course, is home for an incredible variety of plants and animals. All excursions take place in the first section, the so-called „Tuscany strip“, between the south of Lake Garda and Mantova. They are led by experienced archaeologists, biologists and outdoor guides, sometimes on foot, sometimes by bike and each

time they give the participants the chance to ex-plore something new and special. The excursion program often includes culinary stops, so that you can know not only about the landscape, history and culture, but also about the delicacies of the Mincio Natural Park. The first date is the 25 March with a hike in Cavriana. ‘Seit nunmehr 19 Jahren lockt das Sympatex BIKE Festival Garda Trentino Mountainbike-Fans jeden Alters aus ganz Europa nach Riva del Garda. Viele Biker kommen bereits zum wiederholten Male in das MTB-Eldora-

do am schönen Gardasee. Denn die Region zählt zu einer der vielseitigsten und schönsten Mountainbike-Destinationen in Europa. Die Planungen für das 2012er Sympatex BIKE Festival, das vom 28. April bis 1. Mai stattfi nden wird, sind bereits in vollem Gange. Das Programm wurde an einigen Stellen leicht modifi ziert und im Sinne der Besucher, Aussteller und Teilnehmer optimiert. Das Ergebnis: „Mountainbiking“ in all seinen unterschiedlichen Ausprägungs-formen und Facetten bildet mehr denn je die Basis der erfolgreichen Veran-staltung zum jährlichen Mountainbike-Saisonauftakt. ‘For nineteen years now, the Sympatex BIKE Festival Garda Trentino powered by Nissan has been attracting mountain bike enthusiasts of all ages from across Europe to Riva del Garda. Many cyclists will be

coming to the MTB-Eldorado at beautiful Lake Garda for the umpteenth time. The region is one of the most versatile and most beautiful mountain bike de-stinations in Europe.

The organization for the 2012 Sympatex BIKE Festival, from 28 April to 1 May, is already in full swing. The program was slightly modifi ed and optimized for the visitors, exhibitors and participants. The mountain bike experience in all its different facets and manifestations constitutes more than ever the basis for the successful opening of the annual mountain bike season.

For 2012 the organizer has announced another sold-out expo. With a total of 130 exhibitors and over 200 brands, the full range of mountain bike equip-ment will again be presented to the audience. Products often celebrate their premiere at Riva, and are shown there for the fi rst time to a large audience.

But the festival is not only a simple exhibition. In the foreground of the Sympatex BIKE Festival Garda Trentino stands the direct participating of the audience. Many exhibitors offer their latest products, such as wheels, cloth-ing or accessory parts that you can try for free. A large range of tours is also available. In this context, MTB professionals or experienced tour guides are present, so that the participants can explore with them the beautiful area around Lake Garda by bike.

nehmer des internationalen Kinder- und Jugend-Segelfestes „Meeting del Garda Optimist“. Jahr für Jahr lockt die größte Regatta ihrer Art junge Segler- innen und Segler aus 30 Nationen nach Riva del Garda, darunter auch die Weltbesten. Vom 5. bis 8. April 2012 lädt der Segelclub Fraglia Vela Riva zur 30. Ausgabe dieser rekordbrechenden Veran-staltung ein. Um dieses Jubiläum gebührend zu feiern, hat sich der Veranstalter um eine Aufnahme ins Guinness-Buch der Rekorde beworben – als größte Klassenregatta der Welt. Im vergangenen Jahr lag die Teilnehmerzahl bei 942, begleitet von 160 Trainern und etlichen Familien, die das Segelfest mit einem Osterurlaub am Gardasee verbanden. Das „Meeting del Garda Optimist“ ist ein Sport-event, der Länder, Familien und Teams vereint und mit seiner freudigen Atmosphäre auch Nichtsegler in seinen Bann zieht. taking part at the international children‘s and youth sailing festival „Meeting del Garda Optimist“. Year after year the biggest regatta of its kind attracts young sailors coming from 30 nations to reach

Riva del Garda. Among the young people there are also the world‘s best sailors. From 5 to 8 April 2012 the sailing club Fraglia Vela Riva invites every-body to the 30th edition of this record-breaking event. To celebrate the anniversary the organizers want to become candidates for the Guinness Book of Records as the largest class regatta in the world. Last year there were 942 participants, accompanied by 160 coaches and many families who joined the sailing festival on Lake Garda also on occasion of Easter holidays. The „Meeting del Garda Optimist“ is a sports event connecting na-tions, families and teams. It creates a joyful atmos-phere, also among non-sailors. Der Gardasee ist der größte See Italiens, der größte der Oberitalienischen Seen. Der Gardasee wurde durch den Etschgletscher in der vergangenen Eiszeit geformt, dessen Spuren man noch heute verfolgen kann. Zwischen den Alpen und der Poebene liegt der Gardasee im Norden in der Region Trentino-Südtirol, im Westen in der Lombardei, im Osten in Venetien. Damit teilen sich die drei Provinzen Trento (Norden), Verona (Osten) und Brescia (Westen) die Verwaltung. Während das nördliche Ufer des Sees von Zweitausendern der Gardaseeberge wie z. B. dem Monte Baldo umsäumt ist, liegt das südliche Ufer bereits in der Ebene. Das Klima ist aufgrund der Lage sub-mediterran mit heißen Sommern und niederschlagsarmen, milden Wintern. Die Jahresdurchschnittstemperatur liegt zwischen 13 und 15° C.

Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy. Glaciers formed this alpine region at the end of the last ice age. The lake and its shoreline are divided between the provinces of Verona (southeast), Brescia (southwest), and Trento (north). Being easily accessible from the north via the Brenner Pass, the lake is a major tourist destination, including a number of exclusive hotels and resorts along its shore. The northern part of the lake is narrower, surrounded by mountains, the majority of which belong to the Mount Baldo chain. The shape is typical of a moraine valley, probably having been formed under the action of a Palaeolithic glacier. The climate is sub-Mediterranean with hot summers and low rainfall, mild winters. The annual average temperature is 13-15° C.
