Prom may not be until April but that doesn’t mean that promposals are not well underway! There are a large amount of ador-able ways to ask that special some-one to prom. If you are drawing a blank on how to ask someone or if you simply can’t decide on a way, then have no fear! Asking someone to prom may be stressful, but with these promposal ideas, your special someone will have to say yes. It is tradition that boys ask girls to prom. For example, sticking Post-it notes all over your girl’s car with “prom?” on it is adorable and creative. For a sushi loving girl, spell “prom”

with sushi, along with a cute pun poster about food. If your lovely lady loves to cuddle, get her a bear from Build-A-Bear Workshop that says “Will you go to prom with

me?” when you squeeze it tight. Of course, there are many other prom-posals out there, but these are some of the most creative. Today, girls asking boys to

prom is not an uncommon sight. A few different ways a girl could ask her man to prom is spelling out that wonderful four letter word with pictures of you two together.

Valentines Gifts 2 Ladies and gentlemen it is now the month of L-O-V-E! Valentine’s day is coming upon us and some people haven’t even thought about what they are going to get their significant other (I am a great example) and others have had their gifts for a while. If I were you I would recommend a “Good Morning” and “Happy Valentines” text. Most guys are not into all of that lovey-dovey stuff, so ladies here are a few items to get your special person on Valentine's day. Some of you have one of those guys who are happy with anything they get so even if it's a small pocket knife with initials engraved on it, or person-alized golf balls they will probably be happy. You could also get movie gift certificates, and you both could enjoy a night out together.

Now guys, girls are a totally different. We expect things that come from the heart. Girls always love flowers and chocolate. You could also take us out to our favorite restaurant, then to a movie. We also would want to go and get our nails done (well some of us) or a spa day. Be the best person on earth by geting your girl a Kendra Scott necklace with her birthstone. However, it is the smallest things will make us happy. All you need to do is put your heart into it, it does not have to expensive or huge, just from the heart.

Today is Valentine’s Day!!! This is a special day for couples to celebrate their love together. The tradition on this special day is to go out on a unique date that the couple loves and has a fabulous time. The man in the relationship normally surprises his girl by buying her different gifts and taking her out to eat. If you have a significant other and need some help for what to get and where to take her then this article will give you some great tips! The first step to having an amazing Valentine’s Day is to figure out what to get the girl. This may be very hard for some guys if they do not know what she really likes. All girls love flowers and chocolate so that is always the safe gifts to buy her. Also, if you do not have a lot of money then those gifts are perfect. Now, if you make big bucks then a Kendra Scott necklace is another perfect gift for her!! You can even add in some earnings to match. The next step is to take the girl to a fantastic restaurant. It does not have to cost much or be very fancy at all either! Some great places to take her too would be Olive Garden, Freddy’s, Carlos O Kellys, Texas Roadhouse, Old Chicago, Kobe Steak, Chipotle, Pizza Hut, and On the Borders! Some girls are not very picky when it comes to food because they love everything. Unless you are dating a picky girl then I am no help here. When you are at the restaurant you could surprise your girl with a fancy drink or some dessert that you know she will love! I hope these ideas will help you have a special day with your have guy or girl! This is a wonderful day to show how much you truly love your significant other and spoil them. I hope these amazing ideas and tips to making your valentines perfect have helped you out!!

3Valetine’s History and Facts

You may be asking where Valentine's Day even started or why it came about. Valentine’s day was originally a day to celebrate Saint Valentinus. He performed secret weddings for soldiers that were not allowed to marry and eventually was imprisoned. When in jail he wrote a letter to his daughter before he was executed and signed it “From your Valentine.” That’s where it all started with signing Valentine gifts like that. He was buried on February 14th. Valentine's Day originally wasn’t involved with love. It wasn’t until the middle ages that it love and affection toward others became part of the day. Valentine's day is also

called the Feast of Saint Valentine. Some fun facts about Valentine's Day. At least 36 million heart shaped

boxes of chocolates are sold. Men spend double of what a girl spend on them. Approximately 50 million roses are given on Valentine's Day around the world. Valentine's Day is the second most popular day of the year to sell cards. The first Valentines Day candy box was invented by Richard Cadbury in the late 19th cen-tury. Cupid is the son of Venus, the god of beauty and love. About 15% of women send themselves flowers on Valentine's Day. Nine million people buy their loved ones pets as gifts on February 14th. The phrase wear your heart on your sleeve has

a historical meaning. In the middle ages people would draw names of the Valentine’s from a bowl and then wear

it on their sleeve for the whole week.

4 The Garden Plain Owls sports team have had an amazing past couple of weeks! The boys team has come back from a couple of tough loss-es, to really step up their game just in time for Sub-State to roll around. The girl’s teams are still working hard and winning! After a win against Cheney, the Owls are hungry for a win at Sub-State. The Wrestling team is sweating, bleeding, and leaving it all on the mat! Their past meet at Circle gave them a some good confidence to the team, as the end starts to approach. The Boys Basketball Team advanced to 7-9 with their fourth straight wins over Independent, Medicine Lodge, Bennington, and Cheney. In the past two weeks the Owls have outscored their opponents by quite a wide margin. The boys are currently are averaging 11.8 assists in the past 3 games. That is 1.6

more than their opponents. The Owls are also currently outscoring their opponents in steals, blocks, and they have less turnovers. When asked about what progress has been most beneficial to the team Alex Mannebach says, “I think we have really found our identity as a team. Last year is definitely motivation for the team because we want to experience state again, so that pushes us in practice.” Alex also wants to thank the fans for “sticking with us through the rough start we had, and the team appreciates it more than we can express.”

As Sub-State rolls around the Lady Owls are hoping to avenge their win from last year, in order to make it to State for a second year in a row. The girls are hopeful that their hardwork and deter-mination in the gym will help them win again. After a 33-31 loss to Cheney, the Owls are still confident that they will be able to take Sub-State on the 27th and the 28th. The wrestling team recently had a tournament at Circle. Al-though no one on the team placed, they still are confident for sub-state. “I think the team has improved a lot since the beginning of the season,” says Mercedes Gassmann. The Owls are wrestling

at SouthEast Saline on February 17-18. When asked about Sub-State Mercedes said, “It is going to be tough, but if we keep working like we are now I think our chances are good.” We are so proud of our Owls this season! Good luck to the boys and girls basketball teams and the wrestling Team as they charge onto Sub-State. Good luck to all Garden Plain teams, as they go and make us proud!

5What’s Vexing Vincent??

You know what’s vexing Vincent? Valentine’s Day, that’s what. You want to know why? Well, I’m about to tell you. It’s that time of year, everybody; Valentine’s Day is officially upon us. Now, you probably know what people think of Valentine’s Day; The girlfriends find it romantic and the boyfriends grudgingly accept it, but what about the rest of us? Really, it only serves as a reminder to singles that they don’t have special someones in their lives to spend the day with. It’s no wonder Valentine’s Day is so infamous for being a day of lone-liness, causing countless people to stay in their dark rooms binging entire seasons on Netflix alone, with or without bags of chips or tubs of ice cream to forget their loneliness. And have you ever been to a big store during February at any point ever? They’re completely decked out in all of those stupid looking red and pink… well, everything. The ceilings and aisles are filled with deco-rations and products that all look like they were produced by Barbie herself. It’s completely sickening. It quite honestly makes me glad that I don’t do my own shopping yet, just because I can avoid having to deal with it. Not to mention, Valentine’s Day traditions are some of the most useless customs I’ve ever experi-enced. For example, I really, REALLY don’t like chocolate, but it’s everywhere during Valentine’s Day. Whether it’s in cookies or those stupid heart-shaped boxes, chocolate is an inescapable part of this pink-drenched day. Admittedly, a lot of people do like chocolate, but don’t people think that they might be going at least a lot overboard? Alternatively, many people get their loved ones roses or other flowers on Valentine’s Day. Now, personally, I have nothing against flowers, but if you think about it, they are completely useless and only last about two days before they wilt. It would be much more practical to buy something that will last or has a use, like makeup or whatever it is that girls like as gifts. Like I would know. But if I think about it for a bit, maybe it actually is kind of nice that there is a day devoted to couples. I bet that many couples actually enjoy and look forward to spending time with their dates or spouses on Valen-tine’s Day. That, or I’m right and Valentine’s Day is completely ridiculous and overhyped. Not like I would know though. Sucks to be Vincent, I guess.

6 We all have our favorite teachers in school, but do we really know why they’re our favorite? It could be because they make us laugh, or they make us smile, or maybe they just brighten our day. Think of what teacher makes your day better and go and tell them. Just tell them thank you for what they do. Whether they’re just a teacher, or coach, let them know that you appreciate them. They take time out of their day to teach you and coach you. It will be worth telling them to see the smile on their face after you tell them. The video we did for this newspaper was about what teacher brightens your day, or what teacher makes you smile when you see them. It was interesting to see everyone's responses when we asked them the question. Keep in mind that we did not ask the question before hand. We asked them as we pressed record so they wouldn’t have time to think too much. We liked how it didn’t take long for people to say who was there favorite teacher. And it also didn’t take long for them to think of why that teacher is their favorite. Every teacher deserves a little appreciation every now and then. Just think if you become a teacher or a coach when you’re older, you’re going to wish that someone would appreciate you and the things you do. You may not think about it now, but when you are older, you’re going to think about all of your teach-ers you had when you were in school and you’re going to remember all of the things they did for you and how you didn’t appreciate it at the time. So go and tell your favorite teacher now before it’s too late that they brighten your day and thank them for everything they do. Below is a QR Code for the Teacher Appreciation video! You can join in by downloading the app “CR Code Reader.” It’s free! Just scan the code, and enjoy!

7Love is in the Air for Heart Disease

By: Carrie Doherty Hearts are known to be everywhere when it comes to February. Everyone would ask, why not? It is the month for Valentine’s Day after all. However, there is one thing that everyone isn’t truly think-ing about. When a person think about a heart, the first thing that that pops into their mind would most likely be love. “Love is in the air” for Febru-ary, but not just for couples. It’s also for those with heart disease. Cardiovascular disease, or heart disease, is known to be men’s disease. It is actually the number one leading death for women. Around 289,578 women in the United States died of this in 2013; that is 1 out of 4 women. The most common type of heart disease is called isch-emic heart disease. This is mostly caused by what is called atherosclerosis (hardening of arteries from deficiency of oxygen), usually due to lack of

exercise. Any heart disease can occur by many things such as smoking, inactivity, diabetes, broken heart syn-drome, menopause, and even mental disorders like depression and anxiety. It may not always be helped, but heart disease can be prevented. Exercise and proper diet are the number one preventions for heart disease (just don’t over exercise either). Staying happy will help as well. Drinking plenty of water will give the nutrients for the body, also getting rid of the bad bacteria and infectious things prior to any sickness that may occur. Avoiding things with too much caf-feine, such as energy drinks, will keep a proper heartbeat and healthy heart. An overabundance of caffeine can cause great exhaustion upon the heart and cause things like heart attacks, or even heart failure. Tomorrow morning if you’re not sure what to wear for school, go ahead and wear something red; just a little something for Heart Disease Awareness Month.
