    Job Title: Organic Garden and Market Staff Position Location: 1901 Mississippi Ave. Washington, DC 20020

    Classification: Seasonal, Part-time

    THEARC’s Organic Garden and Market Stand: The Organic Garden @ THEARC was created in 2010. It has grown to 25 raised beds for vegetables, a 17-treeorchard, 8 in-ground rows, a hoop house, a pollinator garden, an herb garden, and two honeybee hives. Thegardens provide produce for a weekly farm stand during the summer months and host educational programsthroughout the year.

    Position Description:

    Under the direction of the Garden Manager, the garden staff are responsible for tending the garden, the hoophouse, and the orchard, keeping the area clean and productive. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, planting, weeding, composting, pest control, pruning, and harvesting crops. Garden staff will help keep the all

    garden grounds manicured, harvest and prepare produce for the market days, maintain documentation on gardencrops and activities, assist in construction projects and help manage social media outreach via photos and blogs.The garden staff will assist the Education Coordinator with youth and community educational programs in thegarden and during special events. Staff will serve as a guide to the garden for visitors and educate visitors onfood, nutrition, and the environment. The garden staff will work in tandem and report directly to the GardenManager and to the Executive Director.During the months of May-November the garden staff will assist in operating a weekly farm stand. Staff isresponsible for set-up and take-down of the market stand and operation of market stand during market hours.Staff will organize produce for sale, set pricing, develop market materials, engage market patrons, completesales of produce, and track and record market sales.

    Details: One position20 hours/week - must be able to work Saturdays from May-NovemberCompensation: $10.50/hourTerm: March 11, 2015 – November 21, 2015

    Qualifications: We are looking for an enthusiastic, responsible, and self-motivated individual interested in learning aboutgardening and healthy eating. Candidate must be punctual, well organized, enjoy working outdoors, able tofollow instructions and work independently. Position requires manual labor, some heavy lifting, and frequentinteraction with bugs and dirt. Regular engagement with the community is required so ideal applicant must be

    comfortable engaging with garden visitors and the public.The ideal candidate has attained a GED or high school diploma and demonstrates a deep knowledge of theWards 7 and 8 communities in Washington, DC. No previous garden experience is required.
