CULM GARDEN VILLAGE, EAST OF CULLOMPTON NUMBERS: 5,000 AUTHORITY: MID DEVON DISTRICT COUNCIL Announced by Government on 2 January
Around 1,750 new homes in the first phase are proposed on allocated land within Mid Devon’s Local Plan. The second
phase will go through the allocation process in a later development plan.
WEST CARCLAZE ECO-COMMUNITY NUMBERS: 1,500 AUTHORITY: CORNWALL COUNCIL Announced by Government on 2 January A planning application was submitted by Eco-Bos in
December 2014 and has been supported with funding from DCLG. The plans include 450 affordable homes, shops, a community centre, health facility, primary school, a solar farm, employment space and 350 acres of green space. Road improvements along the A391 have been completed already. A decision on the plans has not yet been made.
TAUNTON GARDEN TOWN NUMBERS: 10,000+ AUTHORITY: TAUNTON DEANE BOROUGH COUNCIL Announced by Government on 2 January The plans include a phased delivery of 5,400 homes at Monkton Heathfield, 2,000 homes at Comeytrowe, 1,500
homes at Staplegrove and a town centre regeneration which would add more homes.
Development at Monkton Heathfield has begun, with 700
homes, a primary school and a range of open spaces. There are plans for £9m investment in Taunton railway station and an A303/358 ‘SW Expressway’, connecting to Taunton at J25 of the M5. Key challenges for the project include the early provision of education and employment space alongside key infrastructure and public transport links.

Current proposals include a Banwell bypass and a new motorway junction. The exact location for the new Garden Village has not been selected. North Somerset Council has recently undertaken consultation on its Site Allocations Plan that includes development at Banwell.
