Dear Friends,
Fall is in full swing! It’s one of my favorite times of the year, watching the trees turn color,
enjoying the crisp mornings, warm afternoons and the weekend camp fires with family. I
love the ruthm of the seasons. I think God made each season just long enough so that we
can fully enjoy it, but by the end of the season we are ready for the change.
Also, with fall come plans for Christmas and the other Holidays. Many of you, or those
close to you , will be thinking of getting those beautiful new floors in time for your parties
and family get togethers. I have a couple of ways to help you.
First, I have some amazing financing programs that won’t cost you one red penny
To take advantage of . There’s no reason not to have fabulous floors for the Holidays.
Second, If you call or visit my store right away and schedule an appointment, I can
guarantee that you’ll get your new floors in well before Thanksgiving, and ahead of the
crowd. See this month’s insert for all the details.
Any friend of yours is a friend of mine. Who do you know who wants new floors for the
Holidays? Can I count on you to pass this newsletter along to them? You’ll be doing them a
tremendous favor by referring them to a flooring dealer they can trust.
I’m looking forward to seeing you or anyone you refer to me this month! Drop by Garry’s
anytime the coffee is always on!
I hope you enjoy this month’s issue of the Home Advisor!
Your Friend,
Garry Combs
Holidays This Month:
Saturday, October 8th Yom Kippur – Jewish Day of Atonement
Monday, October 10th Columbus Day (US) – celebrated since 1866, commemorates Christopher Columbus’ arrival in America, and the contributions of Americans of Italian heritage. Thanksgiving Day (Canada) – perhaps because the growing season is shorter in Canada, thanks for the harvest is given a month and a half earlier than in the US.
Monday, October 31st Halloween – All Hallows Eve, to give it its full name, is nowadays more famous for ghosts and pumpkins. It was originally a religious holiday, the evening before All Saints’ Day, also known as All Hallows Day. All Saints Day, November 1st, is still a national holiday in some historically Christian countries.

About Staying Well: Balance
Know Thyself is as a preliminary step. Where are you now?
What sorts of goals do you want to set for yourself? (see
SMART Goals, this issue)
But “Nothing in Excess” applies in all areas of our lives. If
you’ve been a dieter you know that some diets are very
extreme….nothing but bananas the first three weeks.
We know this sort of imbalance is NOT good for us, but we do it
anyway.
If you want to lose weight, a realistic balanced set of goals might
be:
Don’t change your diet, just eat 10% less
Incorporate healthier foods gradually
Walk three times a week
This sounds so trivial, you may dismiss it, but the simple truth is
often the best.
Cushion The Unseen Comfort
You wouldn’t build your home without a foundation. So
don’t put your carpet in without a foundation either.
TripleTouch Carpet Cushion The best in luxurious cushion
Benefits:
Unsurpassed Comfort Underfoot
Extended Product Warranty
Environmentally Responsible
Eight out of ten consumers prefer the comfort of Shaw’s
TripleTouch cushion compared to other carpet cushions!**
You will probably spend considerable time choosing new
Carpet, but the cushion underneath is equally important. So
make high-quality cushion a high priority … it’s a must-have
For extra Carpet life and Comfort
It’s easy to jump on
the latest trendy
bandwagon, but the
simple truths are the
same as they were in
ancient Greece:
Know Thyself and
Nothing in Excess.
Talkin Green These days we all want to have green both inside and out, especially since there are such stylish carpets that are good to the planet. Carpets of Anso® nylon are 100% recyclable. Even at the end of their life they are turned right back around into brand new beautiful carpet and the cycle will continue on with the same brilliant color, fiber quality, and performance.
Anso nylon carpets have Shaw’s best warranties. R2x®, Shaw’s patented stain and soil treatment, offers protection against the brutality of everyday spills and soiling. Simply put, there is no better stain resistance system!
Can you believe all this in a carpet that’s also eco-friendly? Well believe it and just sit back and sink into absolute luxury while saving the earth’s resources.
Anso nylon. Green by nature. Fashionable by design.

One Cozy Couple
Skip & Barb Dallemolle
We researched wood flooring at
several locations to try to match the
Builders flooring we had in our
kitchen. Most places just told us they
couldn’t match color. Garry called
Shaw from our home on a Friday night
to see if the floor was available any
ware we knew when Shaw answered
he had pull and cared about us. We
then went back to Garry’s Showroom
and discussed options our floor was
discontinued but Garry was very
helpful in figuring out what might
look great! With the final choice being
ours. Installation was awesome the
workers Mike & Luis were great -very
professional – cleaned daily & kept us
informed as to what they were doing.
We Highly Recommend!
Work Tips: SMART Goals Back in the day, working in the corporate world, I was subjected to
loads of training and performance evaluations. Gosh we all love
those, don’t we?
I learned about the SMART goal system, and although I hated it at
the time, perspective has given me some clarity. SMART goals do
make sense. Setting goals is important, both in personal and
business life. Otherwise you flail around, trying to do seventeen
things at once while telling people how good you are at multi-tasking.
Let’s run through some quick examples to see how the SMART goals
work:
S is for Specific: Don’t say “I’m going to walk more”, say “I’m going
to walk 5 miles a week”.
M is for Measurable: How will you know if you attain your goal?
Get a pedometer and track your mileage after each walk, or walk a
route that you’ve measured.
A is for Attainable: Don’t try to walk 20 miles a week, not at first.
R is for Relevant: If you work as a bike courier, this may not be
something you need to do. If you’re a desk jockey, it’s worthwhile.
(Don’t promise to quit eating pizza if you don’t like pizza.)
T is for Timely: You need to start right away, then assess your
progress after 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months and perhaps reset your
goals.

Smarter than Chimps?
An accumulating body of research suggests that the second most
intelligent species on the planet may actually have wings.
The New Caledonian Crow has been rocking the laboratory world with
its ability to out-think chimpanzees in tests that require sophisticated
tool-using logic. One experiment placed food in a box out of the crows'
reach. They were given a stick too short to reach the food, but they
could use it to get a longer stick from another box. The longer stick
was then used to retrieve the food.
It was solved by six of seven birds on the first attempt. Worst of all:
they didn’t even have to think about it!
Get A Night Out At The Movies With My
Referral Rewards Program As you probably know, advertising is very
expensive. Instead of paying the
newspaper or other place to advertise, I’d
rather reward you. So I’ve assembled my
Referral Rewards Program. Every time
you refer someone who becomes a client, I
will send you a gift certificate for two
passes to the AMC theatres. And Hey!
What’s a movie without popcorn? The gift
certificate will also cover a big box of hot,
buttered popcorn and sodas!
