WHY ESTABLISH A GRID FOR GAS VEHICLES NOW?

Denmark has a wide spread infrastructure for gas but hardly any use of gas in transport

Page 3: Gas/biogas for transport – the Danish conditions

WHY ESTABLISH A GRID FOR GAS VEHICLES NOW?

Political agreement about electricity and gas as the most significant instruments in the transport area Strong development in number of gas vehicles in Europe With the latest Danish energy agreement the economics get closer to a competitive level Price of gas descending and oil prices tending to rice 20 mkr. of public funding reserved for gas infrastructure Gas infrastructure and gas vehicles are known technology Wish for oil independency rising

THE RANG ISSUE..

Page 9: Gas/biogas for transport – the Danish conditions

THE COST ISSUE..

Page 10: Gas/biogas for transport – the Danish conditions

Euro VI

• Very low NOX, HC, CO, PM, PN

• Unchanged CO2

• Small fuel penalty• Same noise• Higher price• Higher maintenance cost

Page 11: Gas/biogas for transport – the Danish conditions

WE DO HAVE A CO2 CHALLENGE..

Fuelling stations

• Users do have different needs– Operating companies typically operate from a few garages

• They can set up their own proprietary systems for own vehicles• Cheaper to set up compared to solutions with payment option

– Trucking companies• Various options depending on the types of transport

– Taxi• Large driving need, often filling at same locations (bases)• Additional need for fuelling on the road

– Private car owners• Actually filled often at the same place, but psychological need for many

fuelling sites

5 gas projects launched with grants from the Danish Transport Authority

Total grant approx. 17 mkr.

• Co-financing approx. twice

•Three filling stations as well as at home filling stations

•Three different gas suppliers (HMN, E-on, Fyn)

•Different car brands (Mercedes, Scania, MAN, etc.).

5 gas projects launched with grants from the Danish Transport Authority

• 3 MAN busses (13,7 m), Euro 6, January 2014 with

filling station in Gladsaxe by HMN Naturgas

• 4 Scania garbage trucks, Euro 5 og 6, November

2013 with filling station on Amager by E-on

• 9 Mercedes busses, Euro 5 with filling station in

Fredericia by Naturgas Fyn

• 29 fleet cars for taxi- and plumbing companies

with home filling stations

Some hints to the introduction of gas in transport

1. Define your goals – they may not be obvious!

2. Identify the key factors – then optimise!

3. Know the known pitfalls!

4. Don’t underestimate the organizational barriers

5. EURO VI will effectively reduce emissions

6. Gas reduces noise

7. Hybrids save energy

8. New fuels as biogas are needed to effectively battle CO2

PARTNERSHIP WILL SETUP NETWORK FOR GAS

Network is a cooperation between The Danish Transport Innovation Network (TINV), The Energy Authority and the Transport Authority, who will insure that coordination and exchange of knowhow about gas as fuel for vehicles in the Danish transport sector

Page 19: Gas/biogas for transport – the Danish conditions

THE PURPOSE OF THE NETWORK

• Cooperation and coordination about gas initiatives

• Dissemination of the latest know how within this area. Ex. From demonstration projects with gas vehicles

• Supply data and facts the can highlight issues within this area

• Raise the level of knowledge about the experiences and results from abroad - especially our neighboring countries Sweden and Germany

• Implement, discuss and discuss new analyzes and suggestions for strategies
