Dear Fellow Members, I cannot begin to tell all of you how proud I am of the spectacular event we hosted. During the 6 days of the 2018 Oktoberfest, we hosted several hundreds of people at a time. We had the opportunity of sharing German culture, traditions and more importantly, our hospitality, with a constant flow of people walking in and enjoying themselves in a family environment where attractions for everyone were found. We started with the first tap ceremony where our Consul General, Frau Annette Klein was graceful enough to give a speech to our first visitors and declared the festival open with the known O'Zapf Is words. The bands performed at their best with all the folk songs, the famous tent chants and polkas, and the famous "Ein Prosit" song every now and then. They have an uncanny ability to get everybody motivated and make them be part of the show. Either singing, stomping in the dance floor or while at the tables, everybody was involved. Thank you to the Seitz Bub'n and the Donau Piraten, we are looking forward to have them in 2019. Our dance groups were the cherry on top. Everybody was amazed by their performance and the way they interacted with the attendants, integrating them in their performances. Obviously the cracking of the whip and the banging of the benches was only for professionals but nonetheless very entertaining. It is amazing to see how the culture is passed from one generation to the next. Surely, all the attendants enjoyed the little ones. We praise our group leaders and members for the outstanding job they do and the hours they put to practice, recruit and retain talent to perform. Thanks to all of you. I look forward to be able to thank all the volunteers personally during our Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. You all know that your contribution is very much appreciated. Hope to see you all there. Herzliche Grüße Hubert Weichselbaumer President

Special Commendation: It really is a privilege to work with people so dedicated and organized. Everybody did an outstanding job, but I would like to mention the work of some members in particular who really took their responsibilities as personal challenges and succeeded. I never thought we would be able to update our food serving area as we did. It took a lot of work not only to clean, organize, paint, but to keep it up to standard the weeks before and during the festival. Ingeborg Condon was the leader on this task and certainly did an outstanding job. She also received great help from Marina Urban, who also managed to get volunteers to come and help on the days before the celebrations. Logistics is a very complex matter. To get everything including bands, tents, supplies, souvenirs, beers occurred almost magically thanks to the hard work of our First VP, Mr. Neil Jones. He is always a step ahead and is always dedicated to find ways to make the club look good while generating profits. Scheduling volunteers is also a challenge, particularly when you don't have that many. It is hard to recruit people and sometimes to have to remind them of their commitments. In the end, all stations were manned at all times thanks to Reinhilde Long's great efforts. She's the Boss. Thanks, Reinhilde.

Hubert

SUNDAY SOCCER Originally started by the German consulate, the soccer

players that practice at the club are all members of the club.

They practice 9 to 11 Sunday mornings. Players tend to be

between 15 and 60 years of age. A $5/game fee is collected

to cover field maintenance. A few new players can be

accommodated; this is a great way to make new contacts in

the German community.
