EDITORIAL

Welcome to the 16th Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals 2015! Welcome in Portimao, we are delighted to have you here during our race week!

You are among the best racers in your respective country, it’s a great achievement to get here and as well it’s honor for us to have you here! I’m very pleased to welcome 288 drivers from 60 nations. For our additional 72 youngsters it is time to take a deep breath and give their full concentration. Our racing drivers of tomorrow have already earned their first spurs at the Rotax Micro MAX and the Mini MAX. For some the first time as participants of the Grand Festival, they can breathe the competition air side by side with their heroes of the race track. Thank you all for coming - you make this Rotax MAX Challenge a really extraordinary and unique Motorsport event - the greatest Kart racing series in the world!

For this week the most important thing for you as a racer is speed and lap time. Hopefully you’ll also find the time to enjoy yourself with your team in this great international environment and meet old friends or make new ones.

The Rotax team is focused to offer you the infrastructure and the equipment to compete and have fun! We have more than 150 people on site - highly committed to make your stay successful and pleasant. And - of course- we brought together with our partner race Karts with the famous Rotax MAX engines. The team in Gunskirchen started already in summer to produce and prepare the engines. Each of them tuned to exact to the same level that gives you the chance to concentrate purely on racing. This year, the new Rotax MAX Evo engine will give you better drivability and better lap times then ever! But, as usual, everybody is using the same top notch technology and it’s your skill, mental strength, enthusiasm - and sometimes also luck that determines victory or defeat!

I wish you all - racers, teams support stuff and off course all our fans online or on site fascinating Motorsport, fierce but fair competition and the thrill and fun we all looking for. Good luck! Mud in your eye! See you at the finish line!

EDITORIAL ROTAX GRAND FINALS 2015

Welcome to the 16th edition of the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals (RMCGF). To host such a big event requires quite a lot of work, a careful planning, reliable partnerships and track facilities and locations that meet the expectations of Rotax customers.

For us, Korridas e Kompanhia it is the fifth Grand Finals where we

are part of the organization team. The first time was in Lanzarote in 2004. Two years later followed Viana do Castello in Portugal, then in 2012 we were involved in the organization of the RMCGF in Portimao and in 2014 in Valencia, Spain. This year Portugal will see the third Grand Finals and the biggest karting event ever organized in Portugal.

The circuit Kartódromo Internacional do Algarve has good speed, nice and smooth surface, lots of passing opportunities and builds up a good grip level. But not only the facility has to fit to the needs, also

the surroundings like availability of hotels, distance to the next international airport etc. are important to fulfill the requirements to host an international event like the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals.

We are proud to welcome 360 kart drivers with their families, mechanics and fans. You might wonder why we talk about 360 racers. 288 out of them, who are their countries best drivers, will race for the title of the RMCGF 2015. The remaining 72 drivers, our youngest RMC participants – racing in the Rotax 125 Micro MAX and Mini MAX classes – will have the chance to be part of this international event from November 11 – 14, 2015 – racing the Grand Festival.

A warm welcome also to those at home who will follow the Grand Finals by watching the Live TV Broadcast which starts November 10, 2015 with the first qualifying practice. We are confident you will see exciting races.

Korridas e Kompanhia, BRP-Rotax and the race track team have worked very hard over the past few months to put on a good show. We can’t wait to see how this 16th edition of the RMCGF will turn out!

We wish all of you safe but challenging and thrilling races!

Arnaldo Frias Korridas E Kompanhia

The team of Kartódromo Internacional do Algarve (KIA), part of Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, welcomes all drivers, organizers and supporters of the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals 2015 at our venue, being an honour to host such an amazing event. About 360 drivers from approximately 60 countries around the world will be present in

one of Europe’s largest kart tracks that can operate three tracks simultaneously. The circuit is a great venue for the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals, as it is one of the most challenging circuits in the world. No wonder that we are hosting the final races of the

world’s biggest kart racing series, taking place from November 8 to 14, 2015 for the second time after 2012, having hosted already this year the CIK Karting European Championship. It is a great opportunity for us to present our region that is recognized as a tourism destination – counting on mild temperatures during almost all the year, with a stunning coastline and which beaches are on the list of best in the world – this area is also recognized for sports events. Autódromo Internacional do Algarve is famous as race and test circuit for cars and motorcycles. For example Superbike races, Le Mans Series, Blancpain GT Series, between others. On the other hand, our circuits are often chosen to host international presentations of new cars, motorbikes and tyres to journalists and clients. As you can see, you are in best company at our track. For the final races of your karting season we wish all of you a great time at our track, a fair and successful competition and a pleasant stay in Portimão. Good luck!

Q&

ASTARS ON GRID RUBENS BARRICHELLO AT THE RMCGF

FIRST FOR RUBINHO

TWO-TIME F1 VICE WORLD CHAMPION RUBENS BARRICHELLO IS THE FIRST 4-WHEEL RACING LEGEND TO HAVE QUALIFIED FOR THE ROTAX MAX CHALLENGE GRAND FINALS. AT 43, THE FORMER SCUDERIA FERRARI DRIVER, CURRENTLY RACING IN STOCK CAR BRASIL CHAMPIONSHIP, WILL TAKE ON THE GRID IN THE DD2 CATEGORY IN PORTIMAO.

How does it feel to have qualified for the Rotax Grand Finals? It truly feels great! At 43 I’m still going strong, I’m fast and this is all I’ve always wanted in life.

What was the most difficult race of the Rotax series and why? It’s got to be the final of the South America championship... I took 3rd and 2nd in the previous races but had not managed to win yet... though I knew that with new tyres I would have a good equipment. All I had to do was to make sure I had a great start in order to lead and push as

hard as I could. And this is exactly what happened.

The Rotax Grand Finals gathers the best Rotax drivers from all around the world. How did you prepare for the race? Did you test at Portimao before the event?Unfortunately I wasn’t able to test in Portimao before the event as I was busy with my Stock Car and Touring Car championships. That has been my only training ground in preparation for the RMCGF.

Why did you choose to race in the Rotax

series?I thought it was a great opportunity to race with the best around the world.

Would you like to see the Rotax Grand Finals being hosted by a venue in Brazil? And if it happened, would you like to be involved in the organization? It would be lovely to see the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals taking place in Brazil... we have great go-kart tracks here. As far as my involvement is concerned, it would be to race it as fast as I can my friend...

Numbers speak for themselves. Despite never clinching the F1 World Championship, Rubens’ 322 races, 11 wins, 68 podiums, 658 points, 14 pole positions and 2 vice-World Championship titles in 19 years are the numbers of a true motorsport legend.Legend that started in Karting. Besides his five Brazilian Karting Championship titles between 1983 and 1988 and the South American title in 1987, Rubinho has always been very supportive of Karting even during his years in Formula 1 with the participation to the famous 500 Milhas de Granja Viana endurance race and Desafio das Estrelas, both held in Brazil attracting the best drivers in the world.

So the Rotax program in Brazil, which has grown exponentially over the past few years, becoming a very challenging series, was a new challenge for Rubens as well as both his children. The participation to the South American RMC Series in 2015 is only the last milestone in Rubens’ successful career, and the qualification to the RMCGF only the last of an outstanding series of incredible achievements. In July Rubens grabbed the ticket to the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals at the IRMC South American at the Arena Sapiens Track, where a total of 140 drivers took part in the event.

We touched base with Rubinho to hear what he had to say about it.

Adams, who turned 50 in July, is one of the veterans of the Grand Finals, and despite not being the driver who can boast the oldest participation – Canadian Scott Campbell, who also qualified for the 10th non-consecutive time, holds this record as his first participation dates back to 2005 – he is certainly one of the best trained Masters around. In fact, Adams also competes in the Rotax Euro Challenge, where DD2 Masters drivers race neck at neck with the younger lot of the DD2 class.

We touched base with the fast Belgian.

How does it feel to have qualified for the Rotax Grand Finals for the 10th consecutive time?I am very proud about it because I started to race in the Rotax series back in 2006 and I never missed a qualification. This means that I’ve won a championship every year, and it’s quite an achievement!

Can you share the memory of your first ever Grand Finals? My first Rotax Grand Finals was in Viana de Castelo, in Portugal. The Masters category didn’t exist back then, so I raced together with the DD2 drivers. I was fast in the heavy rain but I had a flat tyre in the final and was forced to retire.

What’s the best memory you have of the 10 Rotax Grand Finals you took part in?For sure, my best memories are my 2 victories. In 2007 I won the Rotax Grand Finals in Al Ain (UAE) in DD2 Masters, while in 2009 I won in Sharm el Sheik (Egypt) in MAX Masters class.

What’s the edition of the Rotax Grand

Finals you are most disappointed about in terms of results or performance?I’m not sure if it’s because the memory is still fresh in my mind, but I’d have to say last year in Valencia. I finished 4th in the final after a fantastic race, but I was disqualified because I mounted a smaller washer on the seat strut. Rules are rules, but it’s one of those decisions that still stings.

The Rotax Grand Finals gathers the best Rotax drivers from all around the world. How did you prepare for the race? Unfortunately I have had no time to test, my work schedule is quite demanding. Working in construction doesn’t allow me to make particular preparations for the race, but at least it helps me to keep fit, and at 50th years old it’s ever so important.

What was the most difficult race of your Rotax season and why? This season I raced 12 races in total. All of them have been tough, but especially those at the Euro Challenge. Firstly because I was the oldest driver in the DD2 Masters category, and

secondly because we race all together with the younger drivers of DD2!

What makes the Rotax series stand out in the Karting scene? To me, the engine is simple to use, the level of the competition is very high and to compete in the DD2 Masters category is very exciting!

In fact, the 16th edition of the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals will see the official introduction of the evo engines in the most successful single-make racing event of the international calendar.Launched in 1997, the 125 MAX has undergone important updating for the first time this year, hence the “evo” version. At Rotax they have maintained the same basic philosophy of both engine and category, which means affordable, economic and easy to run equipment. The technical changes concern some components that are easy to change and replace, and not the “basic” engine. It’s worth reminding that the Rotax 125 MAX evo features new the driving shaft, connecting rod, piston, carburettor, and ignition and exhaust valve control, now electronic. Only slight yet significant changes have been made to the mechanical elements, and the aim wasn’t to improve performance but to make it easier to drive and help set up (especially concerning the carburettor), allowing the engine a longer life and improved reliability. Also, there is a new housing for the battery – which includes start controls – more manageable and longer lasting, besides being more suitable for the new ignition. As it was the case with the original version, also with the

evo – which keeps the same basic mechanics of the 125 MAX – the engines for the various classes are the result of specific variations on the 125 MAX to suit the drivers’ age and level (with the exception of the DD2 MAX engine).

Therefore, the basic engine is always the same, with flanges and restrictors added or removed (as well as other elements like the exhaust valve) so as to limit performance without changing the main “body” of the engine. This way, drivers can move from one class to another only by changing some elements and keeping the same engine. As mentioned above, this doesn’t apply to the DD2, which is different from the 125 MAX as it has a two gear ratio. As a result, the characteristics,

both technical and of regulations, which have determined the success of the Rotax MAX Challenge all around the world, are unchanged - affordability, simplicity of use and leveling of performance are more than ever what the Rotax MAX Challenge is all about. This is further emphasized during the Rotax Grand Finals thanks to the use of a single brand and type of chassis for all drivers. And as it’s been for RMCGF successful 16 years-long history, chassis are supplied for free by the technical partners.

FOCUS ROTAX MAX CHALLENGE GRAND FESTIVAL

International platform for youngest racers “We would like the youngest kart races to experience the feeling

of a racing event, organized on a high level”, said Helmut Voglsam, supervisor, Rotax Kart Engines.

The Grand Festival has the equal concept as the RMCGF. That means that the Rotax Micro MAX and Mini MAX drivers will receive the complete kart including the engine, tyres, fuel as well as trackside support. They will also enter the Parc Fermé and work in the same environment like their heroes. “That is the reason why we have integrated the Rotax Mini MAX and Micro MAX races into the timing of the Grand Finals,” continued Voglsam.

More than one decade ago, the market demand was to support even younger kart enthusiasts than the Rotax 125 Junior MAX drivers. Hence, in 2004, the Rotax 125 Mini MAX engine, developed for kids of the age between 10 to 13 years, was introduced to the market followed by the Rotax 125 Micro MAX

engine (8-10 years of age) in 2007. The engines for the youngest drivers quickly gained popularity and the number of kids racing karts is constantly increasing. The idea of the Grand Festival was born some time before the first event could take place in 2011 and was organized by Korridas e Kompanhia. One year later, the Grand Festival took place for the first time during the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals in Portimao, racing in one category – the Rotax 125 Mirco MAX. The RMCGF in New Orleans in 2013 saw two categories on track, the Micro MAX and Mini MAX classes, while in 2014 as many as 72 youngsters raced in Valencia.“Our intention is to give the youngest drivers an insight on how races are handled and what they will have to deal with when they would like to grow in motorsports. To be part of such a big event will be a very good experience for them, one in which they can get an idea what will be expected of them once they become real racing drivers,” said

Arnaldo Frias, Rotax Kart Engines’ distributor in Portugal and Spain and organizer (with his team at Korridas e Kompanhia) of the Rotax Grand Festival in Portimão.

Back to the RMCGF 2015, the Grand Festival’s 72 talented young kart enthusiasts - 36 in each category - will be officially supported by the chassis manufacturers Birel ART with its C28 R chassis for the Rotax 125 Mini MAX category, and IPKarting with its Praga Piccolo chassis for the Rotax 125 Micro MAX class.

DURING THE 16TH EDITION OF THE ROTAX MAX CHALLENGE GRAND FINALS (RMCGF) HELD IN POR-TIMÃO, PORTUGAL, ON NOVEM-BER 11 TO 14, 2015, BRP WILL GIVE THE YOUNGEST DRIVERS OF THE ROTAX MAX CHALLENGE (RMC) THE CHANCE TO RACE THE GRAND FESTIVAL ON AN INTERNATIONAL PLATFORM AND TO COMPETE IN A GENUINE RACING ATMOSPHERE.

EVA - Event Management System EVA is a web-based application used for all recordings and inspections during the race weekend.Originally developed for the German Rotax MAX Challenge in 2010, the EVA-EMS (Event Management System) is a unique, comfortable and is easy to handle tool that makes for a smooth running of the Rotax MAX Challenge across the globe. The web-based application, exclusively licensed and further enhanced by BRP-Rotax in 2013, covers all common tasks of motorsport events. Starting from a comfortable online

registration up to the final check-out, the system provides a variety of recording and inspection functions. Also thanks to its multilingual capability, the system is actually used in more than 30 countries all over the world - number still increasing. This advanced registration and event management system is one more feature that makes the Rotax MAX Challenge unique. The parameterizable online registration does not only collect the participant’s data, but also ensures the accuracy of the data through a series of plausibility checks and database comparisons and cross checks. Moreover, the participants can

easily register, modify or cancel their entry from anywhere at any time using all kind of common devices like personal computers, tablets and smart phones, thus receiving an immediate confirmation email with all necessary documents attached, including an already pre-filled and ready to sign entry form as well as a preliminary identification barcode. Arriving at the spot of competition, the driver only needs his license and preliminary identification barcode, which some organizers have also “burned“ onto their own series membership card. A quick scan of this ID-code provides the operator at the race office all required information on the screen. Even open payments are recognized by the system – nothing remains unnoticed. And what if someone has forgotten his signed entry form? No problem, it can be reprinted – already filled in and ready to sign – just by clicking one button. The loathed procedure at the race office becomes an easy task for both the race officer and the driver. Proceeding to scrutineering and tyre handout, the barcode on engines, chassis, tyres and all kinds of optional seals allows a quick and accurate data collection of the driver’s equipment – all saved in a powerful database. Thanks to the network connection of all control stations to this database, it is fairly easy to check the correct use of each single component throughout the whole event - manipulation is impossible. The first “contact” with this kind of control tool will be already at the mandatory

drivers meeting. Instead of having to confirm attendance by signing in, each driver’s ID-code will be scanned, immediately showing the race director who is absent. Also in the course of the event EVA is omnipresent - in the pre-start area, in the servicing park, at the scales or at any other checkpoint. All components are continuously checked in real time for correct ownership and validity. Truly gone are the days when one could swap or exchange them on purpose or accidentally. Needless to say, everything is recorded meticulously and the information is retrievable even weeks after the event. Not only does the EVA-EMS system save a lot of time for the driver and event staff, but even more importantly, it proves a vital tool to improve security and safety. In fact, the system offers useful functions and import and export tools for security personnel as well as a number of professionals like time-keepers, commentators, member of the media, and web-designers. The EVA-EMS system is open for all series. Interested organizers may apply for an access license from BRP-Rotax, Austria. Contact details, as well as further information about the system can be found on www.evanet.at

FOCUS ROTAX RACING TECHNOLOGY

LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT SOME OF THE TECHNOLOGIES THAT MAKES ROTAX RACING THE BEST KARTING EXPERIENCE AVAILABLE.

who attempt to modify or influence the ignition timing in order to get an advantage on the competition. The control of ignition systems during a race meeting is essential to make sure that all competitors have the same opportunities. With the introduction of the new Dell’Orto ignition system for the Rotax 125 MAX evo engine series, all possible efforts have been made to avoid manipulation of the Dell’Orto electronic control unit (ECU). This ignition-checking concept is another step to ensure equal opportunities at RMC races to all competitors. To prove that an ECU complies with the requirements, according to the technical regulations of the Rotax MAX Challenge (RMC), BRP-Rotax offers a specific ECU tester, which has been designed specifically for the new Dell’Orto ignition system. The testing procedure is quite simple: unplugging the cable harness from the ECU, and connecting the ECU tester with the ECU (1) to the charging plug of the battery at the kart. By starting

the test procedure, the ECU tester goes through 3 steps:1. Verification of the ECU type (e.g.

“MAX EVO”) – which must be in line with the Rotax MAX Challenge (RMC) technical regulations;

2. Comparison of the saved ignition timing and exhaust valve timing data on the ECU memory with the specific original data per engine type;

3. Simulation/function test to check the timing curve for ignition and operation of the exhaust valve through the whole rpm range, upwards and downwards.

The total testing procedure takes approx. 30 seconds. The ECU tester confirms the accurate data in the ECU memory and the correct function of the ECU test will pop up on the display with the sign “!!TEST OK!!”.If there is any doubt that the ECU is defective and/or not working properly, the ECU tester is also able to check and confirm the correct functioning of the ECU.

MINIRAE LITE - TYRE SNIFFING TOOLLike many other sports, karting is no different when it comes to pushing the boundaries between being on the limit and actually bending the rules. At BRP-Rotax, manufacturer of the Rotax MAX kart ra-cing engine, and the organizer of the Rotax MAX Chal-lenge Grand Finals, they are aware of this and have ta-ken the necessary steps to reduce this to an absolute minimum. Totally eliminating this is a constant battle, but one that BRP-Rotax is prepared to fight to achieve equal opportunities for all competitors.Tyres are one of those areas that fall under the label of ‘manipulation’. There are a number of various products on the market that claim to offer an effective means of a performance advantage as well as being undetectable. This is inaccurate and using these products is outside the regulations and the Rotax philosophy of what equal racing and fair play is all about. Treating/coating tyres with any of these particular products, changes the per-formance characteristics of the tyres, enabling a small window of opportunity to produce an initial quicker lap time. When tyre treatment is used, the performance of the tyres in the initial 1-3 laps has proven to show a speed advantage. This is enough to produce a quicker lap time, but after those initial laps, the tyres return to their originally manufactured performance state and are the same speed as non-treated tyres. To avoid or detect the usage of illegal treatment of tyres, BRP-Rotax have put in place the MiniRAE lite tyre sniffing tool. This tyre sniffer is an excellent tool that can and will detect any tyre that has been treated/coated with the use of a foreign substance. Even the common practice of wiping clean your kart/plastics with WD-40, contact cleaner, brake cleaner etc, will be detected and could have the impression that the tyres have been ma-nipulated. The chemicals used to treat tyres are volatile hydrocarbons. The MiniRAE lite tyre sniffer can detect the presence of these volatile compounds. A tyre that emits a reading as low as 3ppm (parts per million) is de-termined to be a manipulated tyre. Something to think about next time you clean your kart.Prior to any race, on the pre-grid and especially for race meetings not using parc-fermé, the tyre sniffing tool can be easily used on the entire grid of drivers before they take to the track, indicating any additives, coatings or treatments on the tyres. This tool is accurate!!!The MiniRAE lite measures the presence of ‘volatile or-ganic compounds’ (VOC) in the air. By measuring close to the surface (inside or outside) of the tyres. This tool measures the amount of VOCs being emitted from the surface. Untreated tyres, both off the shelf and after use have a reading, but this is significantly below that of treated tyres.

We go for fair races – driving ability is all that counts!

ONE ON ONE DANIEL ERHARDT- HEAD OF ORGANIZATION – ROTAX MAX CHALLENGE GRAND FINALS

The “head” behind the RMCGF who makes the event run smoothly

How long have you been working for BRP-Rotax and what have been your professional responsibilities before you joined the karting team?I am with Rotax since 2007. At that time I started in the Sales and Marketing department for Rotax Aircraft engines. Doing that job for 7 years I got the opportunity to be part of the organisation of the biggest Rotax event – the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals.

When do you start to organize the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals and what have been the main challenges since you are responsible for the organization of this huge event?Since July this year we have been already in discussions with several possible locations. So preparations start long before this year’s event even started. The biggest challenge is to find

locations that can host such a big event. It is really a challenge to find a track where the paddock is big enough for so many drivers and their support teams.

If you look at former events – what changed / what did you change? The event is bigger nowadays– with more racers and more effort in the organization itself and much more professional. We started with 66 drivers in 2000. In 2007 there have been 216 racers already and now we have 288 drivers racing the Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals. For the 5th time in a row the Grand Festival is ‘integrated’ into the time schedule of the Grand Finals, which means that we have to manage all the organization for up to 360 drivers.

Is there a difference to manage the Micro and Mini MAX drivers

compared to the other four categories? No, there is not much different but we have to find two additional chassis manufacturers to support the event, more capacity in the tents, we have to bring 25% more material to the location: tyres, engines, parts, kart trolleys etc. and we need more staff to support the additional participants.

Can you tell us already where the next Grand Finals will take place? No, but we permanently try to find new venues for the RMCGF to make

it more diversified for the participants and also for the community.

How many people are involved in the organisation of the RMCGF?When you count everyone, from the Race director to the cleaning personnel, we are talking about 200 people in total.

How much equipment has been shipped to Portimao? For this year’s final we ship in total 16 40ft containers to Portimao. This is a big logistical challenge as we have to coordinate with our

3 chassis partners, the tyre supplier Heidenau, as well as our own equipment like trolleys, tool boxes, spare parts etc.

The Kartódromo Internacional do Algarve, with a length of 1,600 m, is one of the most modern karting circuits in Europe and it is located in the southern part of Portugal, in the Algarve tourist region, known for its tourist attractions, nice weather and sandy beaches surrounded by its characteristic golden cliffs. The kart circuit is part of the Autódromo do Algarve, a huge complex that highlights the motor racing circuit, where several of the most important International

car and motorcycle events are held each year. In fact, the Autódromo do Algarve is recognized as the most popular place for motorsport events in Portugal and one of the premier motor sport facilities around the world. The circuit is 15 minutes away from the city of Portimão, 70km from the International airport of Faro and 200 km from Lisbon.Completed in 2010, the circuit is renowned for its large and modern facilities. The 1600

meters layout boasts a very smooth surface, very fast 400m long straight with speeds of up to 145 km/h and full acceleration of approximately 12” with plenty of overtaking opportunities.

The lap – corner by corner We take you through a lap of the circuit, corner by corner and everything in between!

Start. The main straight is approximately 400 meters in length, with a slight kink to the right at around the

200 meter mark. This is taken under full acceleration all the way to the end and into the heavy braking zone. Corner 1 is a 90° right hander, which requires a tight exit, allowing for good speed along the short straight and the approach to corner 2. Corner 2 is a 90° left hander which is fast and flowing in the middle of the corner and then a wide exit before heading downhill and into corner 3.

Corner 3. A sweeping

type of corner that can be approached with full attack. A late braking approach, carrying good speed through the middle of the corner, and maintaining that speed with a wide exit is key. The exit from corner 3 is uphill with a slight kink taken under full acceleration, followed by a late braking effort in corner 4. Corner 4. This is a double apex corner. Slightly wide of the apex on the initial turn in, then picking up the apex on the second part of the corner. No sliding as a good flow is required to carry speed through corner 5 (a full acceleration 90° right hander) and down to corner 6.

Corner 6. Can be a difficult corner. A very fast corner that requires a slight lift is necessary to maintain good

exit positioning and approach to corner 7. Corner 7. The approach to corner 7 is with caution as getting it wrong opens the door for overtaking possibilities from your opposition. A wide turn in approach with a late braking effort is required. Corners 7 and 8 (corner 8 being a slow left hand 180° corner) are the slowest of the track and slightly uphill, so a nice flow through these 2 corners is necessary to enable a good exit speed and fast approach to corner 9. Corner 9. Corner 9 is a 90° right hand corner and uphill. A slight lift is an option as it allows an easier set-up and positioning of the kart in the middle of the corner and then exit followed by the approach to corner 10.

Corner 10. Corner 10 is taken in full acceleration all the way through the corner and onto the main straight.

CHASSIS TECH SPECS

Praga - 125 JUNIOR MAXTHE CHASSIS CHOSEN FOR THE JUNIOR MAX CLASS IS THE BEST OF THE PRAGA RANGE.

The Dragon Evo, and the XS3 type in particular, features a wheelbase of 1055 mm in what is a traditional frame design, with accentuated curves in the longitudinal members and a central cross member

slightly converging forward. Bars are 30mm in diameter and frame can be integrated with supplementary bars on the front. Fore-carriage adjustments are the usual ones with cams (standard only at the top), while the braking system is of latest homologation with 195mm self-ventilated rear disc and a floating mono-block caliper, made by IPK like all other accessories. Stub axles are 25 mm with five bores for adjusting the Ackermann.

Sodikart - 125 MAXTHE 125 MAX CLASS, OR “SENIOR” AS IS COMMONLY KNOWN, IS THE ORIGINAL CLASS OF THE ROTAX MAX CHALLENGE GRAND

FINALS, PRESENT SINCE THE FIRST EDITION IN PUERTO RICO.

On this occasion the chassis used is the Sodi Sigma RS, which has been specifically developed for classes that mount medium-hard compound tyres like the Mojo. And the wheelbase - 1048 mm - was also chosen in order to get the best out of these tyres. The frame design is quite traditional, made with 30 mm diameter tubes, and you can add a “stabilizer” on the front. The “hooks” at the rear, usually for the rear bar, are in this case used as support for the muffler. The Sigma RS features all the latest developments for accessories, and in particular it mounts a 4 piston D24 braking system by Tekneex.

Birel ART - 125 MAX DD2THE CHASSIS PROVIDED BY BIREL ART FOR THE

ROTAX DD2 CLASS IS THE RY30.

Made with 30 mm diameter tubes, the last evolution S7 simplifies set up and versatility, so as to adapt quickly to the various tracks and the different types

of tyres. Also, there are some specific characteristics, marked by the letters RX, which make it possible to use

it in a particular class such as two-speed DD2. In fact, Birel ART implemented not only the two “palette” on the steering wheel

for changing gear, but also specific solutions for the frame. Because the engine bears the axle directly and internally on its side, a specific support is needed and no right bearing holder is present. Also, the rear “roller” bumper patented by Rotax needs specific supports.

Sodikart 125 MAX DD2 MASTERSNO TECHNICAL DIFFERENCES BETWEEN DD2 AND DD2 MASTERS (THE 2-SPEED CLASS AIMED AT DRIVERS AGED OVER 32), EXCEPT FOR THE TYPE OF CHASSIS.

In Portimao, the chassis for DD2 Masters class is the Sodi Sigma DD2, which is similar to the model used for the Rotax MAX. Besides the specific support for the 2-speed engine, and some innovations also present in the Sigma RS, there are few more specific ones such as the 205 mm rear disc. Front discs are floating

and self-ventilated, 140 mm with 4 pistons. Also, we have new adjustable couplings for the radiator, and specific rear bumper supports that don’t interfere with the stiffness of the chassis.
