• The pyrheliophoro was invented in 1900 by portougese scientiste Manuel António Gomes known as Father Himalaya.

• He was a priest, a vegetarian, a Nature lover, a self trained biologist and a practitioner of natural medicine.

• He became member of the Portuguese Science Academy.

• He died in 1933 in Portugal.

• To provide energy: – for the production of hot water or

steam – for industrial processes

Pyrheliophoro was made in 21st century. It was presented in British television miniseries James May's Big Ideas.

• This invention way extremely important because it was the base of the creation of the first solar collectors and photovoltaic modules.

• Despite this enormous success, the Pyrheliophoro has never been commercialised.
