Unter dem Titel Gathering Layers zeigt die Galerie Andreas Binder erstmalig aktuelle Gemälde und

Zeichnungen der 1988 in Armenien geborenen und in NYC, USA, lebenden Künstlerin Anna Navasardian.

Navasardians Arbeiten verwenden die Sprache der Portraitmalerei und die Tradition der Figurenmalerei

um die Grenzen, die persönliche und konstruierte Identität trennen, unkenntlich zu machen. Die Vorlagen

für ihre dynamischen Subjekte nimmt sie dabei aus Quellen wie Photographien von Ihrer und anderen

Familien aus der Sowjetzeit, Vintage - Magazinen sowie Portrait - und Aktsitzungen mit Modellen. Die

daraus entstehenden Charaktere legen verdeckte Wahrheiten und vergrabene Bedeutungsebenen durch

den kraftvollen Pinselduktus und der verwendeten Farbpalette offen.

Anna Navasardian behandelt Themen wie Identität, Pubertät, Heranwachsen und Erinnerung in ihren

Kompositionen, die die Vielschichtigkeit der Realität untersuchen. Die Gedanken zerfließen in und mit

ihrer physischen Umgebung, verschmelzen mit dem Gebüsch an einem Punkt des Bildes; an einem

anderen, lösen sie sich in dem Muster des Kleides einer Frau auf. Anna Navasardian setzt die Ölfarbe in

ihrer Rohheit ein und benutzt sie für eine analytische Komposition von Personen auch um das Unsichtbare

das in Ihnen innewohnt sichtbar zu machen.

Anna Navasardian ist eine Absolventin der Carnegie Mellon University und hat bereits zwei renommierte

Preise gewonnen, den Samuel Rosenberg Award als vielversprechende junge Künstlerin und

den L. Porter Award. Sie wurde in Armenien geboren und lebt und arbeitet momentan in New York City.

Galerie Andreas Binder is pleased to present Gathering Layers, an exhibition of recent paintings

and drawings by Anna Navasardian.

Navasardian’s work utilizes the language of portraiture and the tradition of figure painting to

obscure the bounds that separate personal and constructed identity. Dynamic subjects are drafted

from sources that include Soviet era family photographs, vintage periodicals, and live models.

The resulting characters expose hidden truths and buried layers narrated through vigorous brush

strokes and an animated palette.

Navasardian develops themes of identity, adolescence, growth, and memory in creating

compositions that explore the multilayered nature of reality. In the Garden series, vibrant palette

marks function as fleeting thoughts surrounding a family. The thoughts dissolve in and out of the

physical environment, blending into the shrubbery at one point and melting into a woman’s dress

pattern at another. In this way, Navasardian employs the visceral quality of paint to illuminate the

invisible elements that surround us.

Anna Navasardian is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University. She was born in Armenia and

currently lives and works in New York City.
