Jostens National Yearbook Program of Excellence Congratulations to the 2016-17 JRG Yearbook Staff for earning the Jostens National Yearbook Program of Excellence Distinction! The National Yearbook Program of Excellence recognizes engaging yearbooks that reflect a broad representation of the student body while helping students develop 21st century skills such as communication, collaboration, and information and communication technologies (ICT) literacy.

“I think each staff member will admit to feeling a bit overwhelmed at times during the creation of this book! However, not a single one of them ever gave up—in fact, they all rose to the challenge and created an amazing memory for all of their peers here at JRG!” Ms. Froze, Yearbook Advisor.

UW Oshkosh Math Professor Presents Math Awards Eric Kuennen, math professor at UW Oshkosh, visited JRG to present certificates and awards to the top mathletes and their teachers on May 17. Gerritts placed first among 39 middle schools in the recent math problem-solving contest at UWO. We also had the largest number of students of any school who placed in the top 10% in both the individual and the team contests. Congratulations Mathletes and Math Teachers!

Bike To School Day, Thursday, May 25 Do you have extra time in the morning? Then why not bike to school? Thursday, May 25th, is JRG’s Bike to School Day! We want as many people as possible to participate in this event. If you wear a helmet while participating in this event, you will receive a prize. Some prizes you could win are t-shirts, neon socks, or bike light. Remember that only the people wearing a helmet will earn the prizes. Anyone can participate - 7th graders, 8th graders, and even teachers! So grab your bike, bring your friends, and wear your trusty helmet!

Student Chromebooks: Procedures for the End of the School Year Procedures for 8th Graders: Eighth grade students will turn in their Chromebook, case and power adapter on Tuesday, June 6 during their Language Arts class. Chromebooks should be fully charged. Over the summer the Chromebooks will be reconfigured for personal use. Students will be given the same Chromebook during the registration process at KHS. Once the Chromebook is returned to the student at KHS, the Chromebook will no longer be district property and any damages or issues with the Chromebooks are the responsibility of the students and families. Procedures for 7th Graders: Seventh grade students will turn in their Chromebook, case and power adapter on Tuesday, June 6 during their Language Arts class. Chromebooks should be fully charged. The same Chromebook will be provided to the incoming 8th grade student during Pictures and Paperwork Days in August. Additional Information For All Students: Students in grades 7 or 8 who are aware of any issues with their Chromebook should bring them to the LMC as soon as possible so that we can record the problem for repair. Repairs on Chromebooks must be completed before Tuesday, June 6. We have few remaining loaner Chromebooks, so students may need to initially continue to use their Chromebook after reporting the issue. Chromebooks provide a powerful tool for student learning, but also require a great deal of behind- the-scenes work to make sure that tool is ready for students to learn. Your support of this process is greatly appreciated.

End of Year Reminder Concerning Fees and Fines All outstanding school fees, negative Chartwells balances, and library fines are due by the end of the school year. Students who do not have their outstanding fees, negative lunch account balances, or library fines paid in full will not receive their yearbooks on Tuesday, June 6. Please do not wait until the last minute. Contact the main office or the LMC with any questions. Lunch account balances are available to view on the Infinite Campus parent portal.

End of Year Field Trips—Bag Lunch Available For Purchase 7th and 8th Grade students will be attending Bay Beach and Great America respectively on the last day of school. Permission forms are being provided to students by their teachers. Should you be interested in ordering a bag lunch for that day, please see the order form on page 7 of this newsletter.

8th Grade Great America Class Trip On Monday, May 15, during Math classes, all 8th grade students were provided a presentation concerning the Great America class trip on Thursday, June 8. Students were given the permission forms and all pertinent information regarding the trip and bus sign-up at that time. Information concerning the trip and the permission form can also be found in this newsletter on pages 6-8.

Emergency Medications Please be aware that emergency medications that are provided for use during the school day will not be accessible before or after school hours. Parents and students must plan ahead to have emergency medication available during school activities such as clubs and sports. If an emergency arises and a student does not have their emergency medication available, 911 will be called.

JRG and District Administrative Office Summer Hours JRG Summer Office hours will be as follows: Monday, June 12—Friday, August 18: Monday—Thursday 7:00 am—2:30 pm, Friday 7:00 am—12:00 pm. The office will be closed on the 4th of July. Normal office hours of 7:30 am—3:30 pm will resume on Monday, August 21. The office hours for the Kimberly District Administrative office will be as follows: Monday, June 12—Friday, August 18: Monday-Thursday 7:30 am—3:30 pm, Friday 7:30 am—12:00 pm. The office will be closed on the 4th of July. Normal office hours of 7:30 am—4:00 pm will resume on Monday, August 21.
