President’s Message GATOR TALES THE OFFICIAL MONTHLY PUBLICATION OF THE PALM BEACH GATOR SNOW SKI CLUB Next General Membership Meeting: Thursday, October 12th at the North Palm Beach Country Club, 6:30 PM Social Hour; 7:30 PM Business Next Board of Directors Meeting: Thursday, November 2nd at the Double Tree Hotel, Palm Beach Gardens, 7:00 PM Hello Gators, I hope you all have recovered from Hurricane Irma. Fortunately, for most of us, the damage was minimal but the power outages were annoying. We had to cancel both the Board Meeting and the General Meeting due to the storm. However, we were back on track with the fantastic “It’s All About the Fun!” party. A big crowd was entertained with great dance music, delicious food, and interesting activities. This amazing event, organized by your VP of Socials/ VP of Special Activities, Debbi Haselmire, showcased our ski trips, special activities trips, and socials. Kudos to Debbi, event leaders, prize donors, and everyone else who helped. Thank you, Deb and Walter Marussich, for donating your Board Benefits to help subsidize this marvelous celebration for our members! Hello Gators,

I hope you all have recovered from

Hurricane Irma. Fortunately, for most of us,

the damage was minimal but the power

outages were annoying. We had to cancel

both the Board Meeting and the General

Meeting due to the storm. However, we

were back on track with the fantastic “It’s All

About the Fun!” party.

A big crowd was entertained with great dance music, delicious food, and

interesting activities. This amazing event, organized by your VP of Socials/

VP of Special Activities, Debbi Haselmire, showcased our ski trips, special

activities trips, and socials. Kudos to Debbi, event leaders, prize donors,

and everyone else who helped. Thank you, Deb and Walter Marussich, for

donating your Board Benefits to help subsidize this marvelous celebration

for our members!

The closing of the North Palm Beach Country Club has been postponed

until the end of January. It will not reopen for at least 18 months. Our final

meeting there will be in January. Starting in February, we will be moving to

the Marriott in Palm Beach Gardens.

Our Halloween Party at the American Legion Hall in Tequesta is on

Saturday, October 28th. The theme is “A Blast from the Past”, where you

can take a step back in time to the great decades of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s &

80’s and dress up in your favorite retro costume…poodle skirt, beatnik,

hippie, disco, rocker, punk….let your imagination run wild! There will be

prizes for the best costumes. This fun party will feature a DJ, food, and a

cash bar. Experienced event leader, Ildkio Haidacher, will be the emcee,

and she really knows how to celebrate for Halloween! The deadline to sign

up and pay is October 26th, so please don’t delay. This fun event is not to

be missed!

Our Holiday Party is being changed up this year to make it easier for you

to enjoy a wonderful night out. Instead of having this elegant event at the

General Meeting on a Thursday night, we have moved it to the weekend on

Friday, December 8th at the North Palm Beach Country Club. Thank you,

dancing with music provided by a DJ. Space is limited, so please buy your

tickets early so that you will not miss out.

The November General Meeting will feature a ski swap. Please bring the

coming up in 2018. Our cruise to Cuba in April and our Danube Bike and Barge

in September are already listed on our website. Our New Zealand trip will be

up soon.

Our leisure bike ride season is kicking off this month with the first ride at

Jonathan Dickinson State Park on Saturday, October 14th. Ben Smith is the

leader for this ride, and the organizer for the overall program. Thanks, Ben!

We will be having two spectacular full moon dinners at the beach on

Sunday, November 5th and Sunday, December 3rd. We will bring our own food

and chairs and enjoy the moonrise over the beach in Jupiter. Thank you, Kathy

Levas, for organizing these fun events.

2018 Ski Season in

Full Swing!

The 2018 ski season is well underway. We know you are

eager to make your plans for next year's skiing adventure,

so go ahead! Registration is now open for most trips. Here

is what we have so far:

Winter 2019 – Luxury Ski Trip to Vail, Colorado. This

has been cancelled for the 2018 season, but we are

working on it for next year.

Jan. 6-13, 2018 Winter Park, Colorado Ski Trip (26

spots), Trip Leader: Kevin Murtha. This is our No

Frills-All Thrills ski trip that includes 7 nights in studios

(double occupancy, 2 per studio) at the Vintage Resort

Hotel which features 2 queen beds and kitchenette, round

Hello Gator Members,

Be sure to check out some of the new and exciting Happy Hours that are being put

together for the club as well as keeping the club favorites on the schedule. Join the

Gators on Sunday, November 12th from 3:00 - 6:30 at The Cooper in Palm

Beach Gardens for a special Sunday Afternoon Happy Hour. Feel free to contact me

with any new ideas for Happy Hour venues. I will try to provide as much variety as

possible.

Gator’s get your costumes ready for A Blast From the Past, Decades Halloween Party, September

28th, 6:00 -10:00 PM at The American Legion in Jupiter. Prizes will be given for various categories.

Cost is only $23 for members and $28 for non-members. Get your tickets from Deb Haselmire (VP of

Socials). See flyer on website for additional information. Two Full Moon Dinner on The Beach are scheduled

for Sunday, November 5th and Sunday, December 3rd. See flyer on website for information on times. The

November 11th Patriotic Luau is SOLD OUT!!!!! As the Holidays are approaching be sure to attend

the following fun Socials: November 30th, Sandi the Sand tree lights up Clematis by Night and

December 2nd, watch the annual Palm Beach Boat Parade pass by Juno Park. Don’t forget to get

your tickets for the Annual Holiday Party to be held on Friday, December 8th this year at the North

Palm Beach Country Club with DJ Mel providing your dancing music. Very popular last year, Old

Northwood Candlelight Tour, to be held this year on Sunday, December 17th. Limited number of

tickets going fast.

PATRIOTIC LUAU FOR VETERAN’S DAY, NOVEMBER 11TH Join 40 of your fellow Gator

Members on Saturday November 11 from 4:00 PM until 8:30 PM Luau style to celebrate Veteran’s

Day at Bella Vista Pool Clubhouse (Estela Basso’s place) in Jupiter. Pulled pork and pulled chicken from

Park Ave BBQ will be served with all the fixings plus dessert. Bring a cooler with favorite beverage plus camp

chair (limited number of chairs). Music will be provided for your listening and dancing pleasure. Only $20 per

person for a ticket. Limited to the first 40 Members only. Also, be sure to reserve / pay before tickets run

Come see Sandi (the only 600 ton sand Christmas Tree) light up the sky with her

incredible light show as we begin the Holidays 2017. Meet about 6:00 PM in front

of the stage by the beer/wine booth.

VIEWING OF PALM BEACH BOAT PARADE, SATURDAY DECEMEBER 2, 2017

Meet up with the Gators at Juno Park to view the annual Boat Parade. Juno Park is located just north of

PGA on Elison Wilson Road (intracoastal side). Be sure to bring a chair, a cooler, and something to share.

Meet about 4:30 PM. Parking could be hard to find if you come later. Boats will be by about 7:00-7:30 PM.

ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY / FRIDAY DECEMBER 8, 2017

Membership Renewals for New Club Year Starting June 1, 2017 Our 2017-2018 membership year began on June 1, 2017. In order to participate in most of our trips and

weekend events, you must be a member. Please take the time to renew your membership. Your dues are

used to pay for our operating expenses, our Membership Picnic, and the free food you get at many of our

meetings. Please support your Club. Member name tags are available upon request at our general meetings.

Membership applications can be downloaded on-line at our website at www.gatorsnowskiclub.com. They are

also available to fill out at our general meetings. Dues are $40 per year for single memberships and $60 for

family memberships. You can mail in your application, turn it in at a meeting, or pay on-line with a credit

card. For your convenience, a membership application is included on the following page of this newsletter.

Your Club Needs Volunteers! Your Club Needs Volunteers!

We are looking for volunteers in several categories to help our Club succeed in the 2016-2017 year that

started on June 1st.

Social and Special Activities Planning Committee—We need more members to help with our

events and activities. If you have ideas for new events that you would like to help implement, come to our

next meeting. We meet every month on a Tuesday at a date and location that will be shown on the

website under the All Events Calendar. Come at 6:30 PM to order food and drinks. The meeting starts at
