JEE Main(Formerly Known as AIEEE)Programme of Action (PoA), 1992 under the National Policy on Education (NPE), 1986 envisaged conduct of a common entrance examination on all India basis for admission to professional and technical programmes in the country. For admission to Engineering and Architecture / Planning programmes, Government of India vide Resolution dated 18th October 2001 has laid down a three Exam Scheme (JEE and AIEEE at the National Level and the State level Engineering Entrance Examinations (SLEEE) for State Level Institutions with an option to join AIEEE. The erstwhile AIEEE exam will now be called as JEE-MAIN exam.It has been decided to hold a Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) from the year 2013 for admission to the undergraduate programmes in Engineering in two parts, JEE-MAIN and JEE-ADVANCED. The erstwhile AIEEE exam will now be called as JEE-MAIN exam.Admission to NITs will be based on 40 % weightage for total marks obtained in Class XII board/ equivalent exam (normalized) and 60 % weightage to performance in JEE Main. A combined All India Rank (AIR) would be decided accordingly. The policy could also be adopted by other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) and participating InstitutionsEligibility Criteria :1. The minimum academic qualification for appearing in JEE(MAIN) 2013 is that a candidate must have passed in the final examination of 10+2 (Class XII) or its equivalent referred to as the qualifying examination. Those appearing in 10+2 (Class XII) final or equivalent examination in 2013 may also appear in JEE(MAIN) 2013 provisionally.2. Subject combinations required in the qualifying examination for admission to B.E./B.Tech. and B.Arch./B.Planning Courses shall be as under:CourseCompulsoryAny one of the optional subjects

B.E. / B.Tech. *Physics & MathematicsChemistry, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Biology

B. Arch. / B.Planning **Mathematics with 50% marks in aggregate at 10+2 level

* This is as per decision of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).** Provisionally as per the orders of the Honble High Court of Delhi and directive received from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India.The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at JEE (Main) Examination is limited to 03 (three) times uniformly for all the candidates in consecutive years.The upper age limit for the candidates to be eligible for exam is 25 years. However, there is a relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST/PH candidate.
