PREZ SEZDavid Tavares

A year has gone by since I've been President. Now I found myself preparing to be the MC for the February Awards Banquet. It was held on Saturday 2/3 at Admiral Rhisty Restaurant. It was organized by Dixie Foster with help from Sharon and Pat Cowley as well as Chuck and many members that contributed to the awards. I've had such great enjoyment spending time with my friends of The Vette Set. One of my quotes that really sticks in my mind is "People come in to this club because of a car and they stay in because of the people." I heard from quite a few people how much they enjoyed the Venue and the fun atmosphere.

We also had a Sweetheart Rally on Sunday Feb. 11th by Jennifer and myself. It started on a parking lot off a side street close by WIN Chevrolet. Shortly after several Corvettes gathered, we were swarmed by security cars and guards. They told us we had to leave, as more and more Corvettes pulled into the lot. My guess is the lot belonged to some sort of defense contractor. After we left there, the members drove through beach cities looking for answers to the clues given. Everyone made their way to Don the Beachcomber restaurant where we gathered for lunch and passed out prize money and some small gifts.

Stay tuned for more activities next month. This includes another Jack Walter Monday run. Can't wait.

Until next time, Goodbye Vette Setters!

David Tavares

NCM NEWSYour Name in the MuseumWhether you're looking for a unique gift idea, to have bragging rights at the Museum, or simply for a way to support the hobby you love - the Flint Brick Wall is a great opportunity to check all those purposes off the list!

Located at the St. Louis Assembly Plant display within the Museum, the dedication wall is composed of bricks from the razed Flint, Michigan GM facility where the first 300 Corvettes were assembled. Each brick space features an engraved signature plate attached to the permanent fixture and is recognized with a certificate for a tax deductible donation of $250.

2018 Long Beach Red Z06 Corvette Coupe RaffleThe drawing is Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 2pm CT. The price of each tickets is $250 and the total number is limited to 1,000.

SPONSOR RELATIONSAs I announced in the General Meeting, the dealership is offering discount pricing on several Corvettes. That is the only thing that I have to report from our sponsor.

CAR SHOW John Tully

Our “All GM Beach Classic” is April 28, 2018 at Ruby’s Dinner in Redondo Beach.

The Car Show planning committee will meet this month Mar. 6, 7 PM at the Tully’s, 21 Roanwood Dr., Rolling Hills Ests. All Vette Set members who wish to contribute to the planning are welcome.

Car Show sponsors and donations are beginning to arrive. We have potentially 8 major sponsors and 2 tee shirt sponsors so far. A major sponsor contributes $500 or equivalent product and a tee shirt sponsor contributes $250 or equivalent product.

Our committee has been calling many of the probable/potential sponsors (the potential sponsor list is over 400). And we are seeing a lot of support with this personal contact. If any TVS members would like to help with this please give me a call. It’s really easy and can be quite rewarding as most companies like to support charity events and all are most cordial to requesters.

Our Raffle is one of the most enjoyed portions of our Car Show. To make it the best we encourage all Vette Set members to donate a raffle prize to the Car Show. The easiest way to do this is to contact an owner/manager of a business you frequent and ask if they would donate a gift card, dinner coupon, item from their store, etc. Most businesses appreciate the advertisement, good will, and positive endorsement of a customer. Naturally we appreciate individual club member donations as well. Please bring donations to our next General Meeting, April 3, 2018.

We also have trophy sponsorships available. They are $25 each and will have the sponsor’s name on the trophy. Please let me know if you, your business, or a business you frequent would like to sponsor.

If you would like our Sponsor Solicitation Letter to help you approach anyone just let me know and I will forward it to you. All the Sponsor levels and Car Show details are in the letter.

John Kern has asked Malcolm, who brought the classic motorcycles to our show last year, if he would bring some for this year’s Show. He will be coming with more motorcycles. And John is hoping that Red Bull will take up our offer to come. Energy drinks for all!

Rosie, with hands on her hips, came close to giving INEOS Security a piece of her mind

SUNDAYFEBRUARY 11, 2018

SWEET HEART RALLYEThe Sweetheart Rallye was led by David Tavares and Jennifer Walton. The plan was to meet between 11:30 and 11:45 at the INEOS Olefins & Polymers, USA parking lot (2384 E. 223rdSt, Carson 90745) with the Rallye starting at noon.

We learned two things that day: (1) INEOS, with a production of 7.5 billion pounds of Olefins and Polymers per year, is the third largest manufacturer of high density polyethylene and polypropylene in the USA and (2) they don’t want people using their parking lot to stage events.

David and Jennifer handed out Rallye instructions to answer clues and answer questions pertaining to landmarks in Long Beach and Orange County beach cities. At the end of the journey, we arrived at Don the Beachcombers in Sunset Beach for lunch.

David awarded prizes based on the number of correct answers and the time it took to complete the drive. Some of the winners were: Kim & Dixie, Bob & Susan and Pat &

Sharon. Thank you to Dave & Jennifer for all their time and effort in planning a fun run.
