The Globe Guilders partnered with Neiman Marcus for the Celebrating Couture event. A festive champagne reception, appealing silent and live auctions, and a delectable luncheon led to the main event fashion show, which was presented by Neiman Marcus. Linens accented with gold and gorgeous white floral center-pieces, accented with red, by Cathy Wright graced tables in the elegant-ly appointed ballroom. A big "shout-out" goes to Chair Lois Lewis and her Co-chairs Dolores Smith and Patricia Paul. The Honor-ary Chair was Sandy Redman, and the Honorary Committee was chaired by Valerie and Harry Cooper. And thank you to our generous Live Auction donors: Holland America Line, Rancho La Puerta, Neiman Marcus, Naeem Khan, Gen7 Wines, Pacific Lyric Association and The Old Globe.

News From Around the Globe

Dear Globe Guilders, It is our great pleasure to congratulate you once again for an absolutely stun-ning Fashion Show. The hard work of Lois Lewis and her dedicated committee was apparent in every aspect of the day, from the vibrant reception with its beautiful silent auction to the luncheon and the magnificent live presentation. Celebrating Couture 2014 was a fantastic success and we thank each of you your extraordinary efforts, not only for the Fashion Show, but all year-round as well. As we enter summer, both of us look forward to seeing many of you at the Globe for what will be an exciting summer season. Our Shakespeare Festival will begin with Barry’s production of Othello as he leads an all-star cast that includes Kristen Connolly as Desdemona, Richard Thomas as Iago, and Blair Underwood in the title role. For the second production in the Festival, we are pleased that Tony Award-nominee Mark Lamos will helm The Two Gentlemen of Verona. Mark is a superb director, and we are eager for his return to the Globe. In addition to the work in the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre, we will have two amazing productions on our indoor stages, including Into the Woods, which originated at the Globe and will now be seen in a uniquely reimagined version by Fiasco Theatre, and Quartet, an uplifting comedy directed by our very own Rick Seer. Additionally, as we have for the past two years with the holiday favor-ite Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, on August 9 we will offer another opportunity for families with members on the autism spectrum to come enjoy a special sensory-friendly performance of Into the Woods. On behalf of the Globe, we thank you once more for all that you do, and we look forward to seeing you at the theatre this summer! Sincerely yours, Barry Edelstein Michael G. After a welcome by President Linda Van Vark, Artistic Director Barry Edel-stein was introduced and gave a few remarks. Then Director of Professional Training Rick Seer presented MFA stu-dent, Megan Storti, with an award from the Dorothy Brown MFA Endowment Fund. Pam Stafford, luncheon co-chair, designed the charming centerpieces and was assisted by the creative efforts of Donna Blochwitz. Bonnie Wright was a show stopper with her Shakespearean costume and money hat.

I would like to thank the rest of my in-credible committee. They all worked so hard to make the day an overwhelm-ing success. They included co-chair, Jane Klofkorn, Bonnie Duell, Jane Hop-kins, Caroline Thienes, and Linda Van Vark. Norm Gillespie was our photog-rapher and Gail Dill created and print-ed the invitations and programs. Addi-tional thanks go to Gigi Cramer for all of her help that day.

Margi Sargis, Chair

Seven extremely talented actors from The Old Globe / University of San Diego Master of Fine Arts program per-formed brilliantly at the Febru-ary 24th luncheon at Tom Ham’s Lighthouse. They captivated the audience as they sprung up from their tables and strode around the room delivering exciting mono-logues. Randy Tidmore performed ad-mirably as a supporting actor! This was followed by a lively question and an-swer session conducted by our favorite moderator, Jane Cowgill.

The Lighthouse provided a stunning setting for the annual MFA Luncheon. The weather was perfect and the views were breathtaking. During the social hour, guests were able to view three delightful boutiques provided by our own Mona Beizai, Diana Spinoglio, and Kellyn Timmerman. (Diana came all the way from Tustin with her lovely Silpada jewelry.)

Meet & Greet for Othello - May 19

5

Meet and Greets/Company Calls are an integral part of The Old Globe scene and as you can see from the previous pages, the The Old Globe and the Guilders have been very busy this spring. These occasions are where cast and crew meet together for the first time to begin work on a play. Guilders have been preparing a plentiful array of goodies for them since 1955. (We are famous for our Deviled Eggs and Taco Salad!) It is a wonderful way to enjoy the camaraderie of the Guilders and become acquainted on a more personal level with cast and staff members for each play. Doesn’t it look like fun? Sign up for the next one and have a great time! Contact Chairs Jane Klofkorn, Pam Stafford or Donna Blochwitz.

Our sincere thanks to Norm and Pat Gillespie who attend each one of these events bringing goodies and taking pictures for all.
