GAZPROM is backed by years of experience and expertise in the use of natural gas as a fuel. OAO Gazprom operates more than 200 natural gas service stations in Russia. Through its membership in erdgas mobil e.V., a joint initiative supported by the German gas industry and erdgas mobil Berlin-Brandenburg, GAZPROM Germania actively promotes the use of environment-friendly natural gas for road transport. The compa- ny continues to invest in the expansion of the filling station network in Germany and is planning to complete 15 new stations by end of 2014. To promote the use of natural gas-powered vehicles across Europe, GAZPROM and its subsidiary VEMEX are working on the expansion of the gas station network in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS (CNG) AND LIQUEFIED PETROLEUM GAS (LPG) ARE RELATED BY NAME ONLY. Although they sound similar, they stand for different technologies: Compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) is natural gas in compressed form. It is stored at a pressure of approx. 200 bar. LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) is also natural gas with the same eco- friendly features such as CNG. The essential difference between CNG and LNG is the type of storage. LNG is liquefied natural gas that can be cooled to –161° C and stored in an extremely compact space. LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) is a by-product that results from processing crude oil in a refinery. It is available in liquid form. Natural gas has a higher energy content than petroleum gas, which makes it environment friendly. The CO2 emissions from natural gas vehicles are lower than the levels produced by liquid petroleum gas. Natural gas is also less expensive than LPG. With EUR 10 worth of fuel, a natural gas-powered compact car will go approx. 220 kilomet- res; on LPG it will only go 167 kilometres. (Source: Erdgas mobil) LNG has an energy density per unit volume that is approximately 2.5 times higher than CNG. This makes it particularly suitable for use in heavy goods vehicles, for example, when long distances and low weight are important competitive factors. LNG can also be used as a low-emission fuel for ocean-going freighters. LOW-EMISSION NATURAL GAS MOBILITY IS NOT A VISION OF THE FUTURE. IT IS A REALITY TODAY. A COMPREHENSIVE INFRASTRUCTURE IS ALREADY IN PLACE WITH MORE THAN 900 SERVICE STA- TIONS ACROSS GERMANY. THE ADVANTAGES OF NATURAL GAS MOBILITY ARE OBVIOUS. AS A FUEL, NATURAL GAS IS ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY, READILY AVAILABLE, RELIABLE AND INEXPENSIVE TO BOOT. natural gas mobility has proven itself a thousand times over in everyday situations. The fact that long distances can be easily covered with natural gas in the tank was demonstrated during the nGVA Blue Corridor Rally in 2012. Supported by GAZPROM and other European gas companies, a convoy of 15 vehicles from different manufacturers drove a distance of 6,700 kilometres across Europe – without using a drop of petrol or diesel fuel. for further details: www.bluecorridor.org

natural gas vehicles earn high marks when it comes to safety. As proven by AdAC tests, the fuel tanks are accident-proof and resistant to heat and pressure. in an emergency, natural gas can be regulated and dis-charged safely. CnG cars meet the highest safety standards and, unlike lPG vehicles, are allowed to enter underground car parks.

drive twice as far for the same amount of money. using natural gas as a fuel is not only good for the environment, it also much more econo-mical. A tank full of natural gas costs up to 1/3 less than diesel – and half as much as petrol. A natural gas-powered compact car will go 220 kilometres on EuR 10 worth of fuel. The same car with a petrol engine will only go 103 kilometres.

natural gas also saves money on taxes. Thanks to the outstanding envi-ronmental performance of natural gas cars, owners benefit from a lower energy tax rate until the end of 2018 and possibly longer. And lower CO2 emissions mean less motor vehicle tax.

According to an independent test, „When it comes to carbon dioxide emissions and mileage costs, high-efficiency diesels, hybrids and lPG drive systems vehicles can‘t compete with natural gas-powered engines“. (Source: auto motor und sport, magazine 04/2013)

The energy content of one kilo of CnG is equivalent to approximately 1.5 litres of petrol, 1.3 litres of diesel or 1.9 litres of lPG.

nitrogen oxide emissions from natural gas vehicles are up to 95 % lower than from diesel engines. harmful particulate matter is also a thing of the past with natural gas. Modern natural gas vehicles meet stringent emis-sion standards and are permitted to enter low-emission environmental zones in cities.

natural gas offers significant advantages over electric mobility and other alternative drive systems. This is because the technology has been thoroughly and tested is already available. A comprehensive infrastructure with more than 900 natural gas filling stations is currently in place in Germany. The natural gas network is also well developed in neighbouring European countries.

More cars, more gas stations. The Eu fuel strategy target for 2020 is to have a pan-European network of filling stations with a maximum distance

of 150 kilometres between CnG stations and 400 km between lnG filling stations. GAZPROM Germania currently operates six stations across Ger-many and plans to have a total of 15 stations in place by the end of 2014. Another seven stations will be opened in the Czech Republic and Slovakia by the end of 2013 in cooperation with VEMEX, a GAZPROM Germania subsidiary.

According to CEO Vyacheslav Krupenkov, „By investing in eco-friendly natural gas stations, GAZPROM Germania is making an important contribution to the development of environmentally sustainable mobility in Germany and Europe“.

GAZPROM Germania works together with the automotive industry on projects aimed at establishing lnG on the road. in cooperation with international partners, lnG-powered buses were successfully rolled out in Poland in 2012. More projects are in the planning stages.

More models: Convenient travel is made possible by increasing vehicle ranges up to 550 kilometres and high-performance engines. More than 20 different natural gas-powered vehicles are currently available from manufacturers. for further details: www.erdgas-mobil.de

To ensure natural gas-powered vehicles don‘t run out of fuel in the future, GAZPROM owns the world‘s largest natural gas reserves with some 35 trillion cubic metres. Enough to reliably cover consumer needs for many decades to come.
