Syllabus is current, to include Current Semester, Course Description, Course Outcomes, General Education Competencies, Course Schedule, Grading Policies and all required sections from the “GC Boilerplate”.

Syllabus is free from language indicating “self-paced” or “self-taught” instruction. Syllabus contains a Course Schedule with specific and required due dates and times for all assignment deliveries. Due dates may not be “suggested”.

Course Assignments

Standard 4

Standard 6

Standard 8

Online course assignment/activity is given during the first week of the course to document course participation/attendance (i.e. class introduction/discussion, quiz on syllabus/course navigation, etc.).

Blackboard (Bb) tools are used as the primary modality for instruction, student assignment postings and submissions. Students access and upload assignments directly in Bb. (3rd party courseware (publisher content, etc.) should not be the primary modality, content area nor grading area. Nor be the direct access point or pass thru Bb)

Email is not the primary modality for assignment submissions.

There is evidence of more than just quizzes/tests as assignments and assessments.

There are no face-to-face requirements where students must report to the GC Campus.

The course does not allow for student completion on a “self-paced” basis. Evidence to look for:

• All course assignments and requirements are not open/available to students at once (norjust using adaptive release)

• Assignment completion relies on instructor input or activity timed throughout the semester

• Self-Paced Language Does Not Exist in the course

• Course Schedule has “required”, not “suggested”, due dates

• Grade Book reveals graded assignments are completed at appropriate times, (i.e.students are not completing final assignments during the early weeks of the class)

Observation Notes:

Student Collaboration

QM Standard 5

Student-to-Student interactions are built into the course:

Alternative collaborative assignments (e.g. blogs, group project, etc). Content-specific student Discussion prompts, OR

Basic Layout

QM Standard 8

There are no empty folders in the course.

There are no erroneous/ duplicate folders/items in the course (i.e. course copy errors).

Welcome Announcement is evident.

Announcements posted per week or unit, at a minimum.

Instructor Presence

Evidence of instructor presence in help forum; instructor responds to student questions within 48 hours.

QM

Standard 1

Standard 7

Evidence that the course is led and facilitated by the faculty member (e.g. as shown in the activity log, discussions, announcements, student feedback in gradebook, etc.).

Standard 8

Gradebook is not entirely automated (e.g., assignments require instructor input, they are not exclusivelyself-graded quizzes/tests).

Grades are entered in a timely manner throughout the semester (to allow for student drop decisions).

Observation Notes:

I recommend this course be reviewed by someone for possible use as a QUALITY SAMPLE Course.
