Below is a model answer for:
EXPLAIN HOW YOU DEVELOPED YOUR CREATIVE IDEAS FOR THIS PIECE OF
PRACTICAL WORK. GIVE AT LEAST ONE SPECIFIC EXAMPLE OF HOW YOU
APPLIED YOUR SKILL AS ACTOR, DESIGNER OR TECHNICIAN IN PREPARATION
FOR PERFORMANCE.
Below is an answer I did for a completely different play.
Underline where it is that you think I have answered the question.
In our devised performance of The Witches I applied my skill as an actor. The scene I am going to
focus on is where my character (Anthony) is a contestant on a quiz show where the prize is a woman.
This scene showed the inequality of the sexes and (through humour) made the audience question the
role of women in society and if attitudes have changed. I had to show I was a high status sexist man;
in rehearsal I developed my creative ideas for the piece by taking on the highest status in an image
and I then applied it to my scene. On the line ‘Contestant number two’ I showed my high status
through a straight backed posture, direct eye line with the host, head held high, shoulders back and
a firm pointing gesture when I selected the girl for me. I also made sure that my feet were shoulder
width apart to take up more space. I also demonstrated my high status through voice on the line
‘have to see what her cooking is like first’; I used a low pitch, loud volume, and a commanding tone. I
also emphasised the word ‘cooking’ to highlight what my character thought the role of women is.
To get high marks for this answer you must look back to how you developed in rehearsals and
how the use of rehearsal techniques improved your overall performance.
Now have a go at answering this second question based on your performance. REMEMBER TO
DESCRIBE IN DETAIL.

Section A: Q3 (Process / How you improved)
ANALYSE HOW YOU DEVELOPED YOUR OWN SKILL TO TACKLE PROBLEMS. YOU SHOULD
REFER TO AT LEAST ONE OCCASSION IN THE PREPARATION PERIOD WHEN YOU USED YOUR
ACTING OR DESIGN OR TECHNICAL SKILLS TO OVERCOME AT LEAST ONE SPECIFIC
PROBLEM.
Underline the key words in this question – THINK! What is the question asking you to do?
Reword the question above as a statement:
What was the problem you faced and how did you know it was a problem? (E.g. peer feedback / filmed and watched
back etc). You could also make reference to your aim here – you were not achieving it and that was the problem.
What did you do to solve the problem? (Describe the process you went through to solve it)
Why was this more effective? How do you know? (Audience quote)
How did this impact your performance? (Describe your acting in detail)
NAME: This sheet is going to help you prepare for your written exam in May. Section A is where you answer 4 questions (each worth 10 marks) based on a devised piece of practical work. This sheet focuses on Question 4. Q4 is all about evaluation. Did we achieve what we set out to do? How? Why was it effective? TASK 1: Explain below what you think our GROUP AIM was: ___________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Name the scene where we achieved the aim and describe what happens.
How did we achieve it (describe in detail how we managed to achieve it)
Why was this effective for the audience?
TASK 2: This time we are going to think about IMPROVEMENTS. What could we have done to be more successful with our aim? Why would this be better? REMEMBER – do this for the SAME SCENE to focus your answer.
Recap the scene we are focussing on:
What could we have done differently in order to be more successful in achieving our aim?
Why would this be more effective for the audience?
