GDT optical transport
Unleashing the limits on bandwidth and extending the
reach of your infrastructure and business
With demands for more information triggering the transmissions of enormous volumes of traffi c—more
video requiring more bandwidth, more Wi-Fi and mobile-connected devices, more traffi c in and out
of the cloud, more quickly and more effi ciently—a fast reacting, easily managed next-generation
network is a must. For long haul, metro, data center and campus applications that require low latency
and high bandwidth, an optical transport backbone is essential in the delivery of high bandwidth, high
performance, and high availability.
Today’s transport technology is capable of transmitting up to 9.6 terabits per second over a single
strand of fi ber. Utilizing Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) and providing end-to-end low
latency links for applications, the technology offers sub-50μs path protection switching to help support
fi ve 9s availability.
GDT delivers today’s optical transport solutions that enable the greatest transmission capacity at the
lowest total cost of ownership.

The GDT optical transport teamWith full-turnkey optical solutions, the GDT Optical Transport Team extends the reach of your
team – its knowledgebase and abilities.
The GDT Team is uniquely led by a core team of diversely experienced optical engineers and
architects, each with an average 15+ years of industry experience in enterprise and service
provider environments. The Team is experienced in a wide range of optical platforms across
multiple manufacturers that include Cisco, Alcatel-Lucent, Ciena, BTI, Cyan and Fujitsu and
specializes in the complete product lines of the Cisco Optical Networking System (ONS) and
the next-generation Cisco Networking Convergence System (NCS).
With engineers located in major cities around the US and able to travel to customer locations
both domestically and abroad, our goal is to provide exceptional services with the least
possible disruption to our customer’s day-to-day operations.
A glance at what we have doneWith its breadth and depth of real-world experience in some of the largest service providers in
the US, GDT is well positioned to bring service provider-grade solutions to enterprise networks in
need of optical solutions to support their business end users.
200 projects in 2 yearsFor a Tier 1 service provider, GDT completed over 200 metro optical
projects in a two-year period, including greenfi eld turn-ups, node adds
and incident-free circuit migrations over three different DWDM platforms.
6 months staff augFor a regional service provider, GDT wrote and executed comprehensive
interoperability test plans; provided engineering, provisioning and training
documentation as part of a 6 month staff augmentation.
Audit for 0 fi ber exhaustFor the exhausted fi ber of a large regional service provider, GDT provided
audits, per-circuit optimization plans and designs, cutover data and
provisioning and utilized GDT-sourced fi ber jumpers for all migrations.
100 Gbps from ground 0For a regional service provider network in North Carolina, GDT designed
and implemented from ground zero a multi-degree coherent 100 Gbps
service provider network.
A full range of servicesGDT provides a full spectrum of services that support our scalable, reliable, versatile and dynamic optical
transport solutions. Our services support the ever-changing needs of end users while simplifying the
connection of your customers to the services they demand. GDT helps you realize the full potential of
your network.
The design services of the GDT Optical Team include network design of dense wave division
multiplexing (DWDM) and optical transport network (OTN) switching infrastructures.
▪ DWDM and OTN switching infrastructures
▪ Proof of concept in the customer-accessible GDT Lab
During implementation, GDT customers are fully supported by engineers, technicians, project
managers, and installers that keep processes on track, test and fi ne-tune solutions prior to deployment,
and provide complete EF&I, C&IS, and migrations services.
▪ Cold staging, to organize and ship site specifi c materials and equipment
▪ Hot staging, to pre-provision and test functionality before it hits the fi eld
▪ Project management
▪ Site surveys
Managed and support services are critical for highly-reliable networks. GDT services are customizable,
and provide immediate and ongoing benefi ts. These services enable the optimum use of deployed
solutions and give your teams the ability to become more effi cient and effective in the operation of
the new solutions that drive your business toward the achievement of your business outcomes.
