AGNIESZKA is the story of a driven, hardboiled woman, who, through the love of a 16yearold boy, finds the strength to turn her back on violence and finally stop running. Without a penny in her pocket and on the run from her past, Agnieszka (30) leaves her native Poland in the middle of the night. In Munich she meets the former

ballet star Madame (70), who has now faded entirely from the public eye. She gives the anchorless Agnieszka sanctuary and a job: she starts to work for Madame as a domina. When Agnieszka meets the 16yearold Manuel, who falls undyingly in love with her, developments pile up. Torn between her loyalty to Madame and her feelings for Manuel, Agnieszka finds the courage to regain her tenderness.

THE WHOLE SHEBANG is the story of an encounter of some very diverse people, whose lives are intertwined by a fateful incident a long time ago. A melancholic comedy about mothers and daughters, about love‘s ups and downs and the shortcomings of alternative and middleclass life concepts. It‘s about the absurdity of modern traveling and our everlasting longing for the south. Can you book happiness just like a holiday – all inclusive?Apple owes her peculiar first name to her mother Ingrid. Never again does she want to live the chaotic life of her childhood. In 1967, in Spain in a tent at a hippie beach, when Apple‘s mother had a passionate love affair with Karl. Now, thirty years later, Apple‘s love life is a mere disaster, her only friend

and confidant being her dog. Ingrid, the once topless queen of the beach, still a free spirit, returns as a package holiday tourist to Torremolinos. The hippie beach has gone and she hardly recognizes the place, now distorted by hideous new hotels, invasive animators and partying youths. An encounter with a refugee landing by boat and the acquaintance with Tim, a gender bender, force Ingrid to reflect on her past. When Apple arrives in Spain to visit her mother, she is in for a big surprise. DORIS DÖRRIE was born in Hanover. After studying Acting, Philosophy and Psychology in the US, she studied at the University of Television & Film in Munich, where she now runs the Creative Writing Department. Strokes of fate have taken their toll on the ageing cabaret singer Ruth and the seriously ill young Jonas. Yet despite their great age difference and their entirely opposite lifetime experiences, they form an intense bond and give each other a reason and purpose to live.

AUF DAS LEBEN!, which translates into English as “To Life!“ and into Hebrew as “L‘Chaim!“, the celebrated Jewish toast, is the unashamedly HaroldandMaudelike story of two very unlikely individuals. Starring the grande dame of German cinema, Hannelore Elsner, and Max Riemelt, one of the most acclaimed young stars of German and international films.

UWE JANSON was born in 1959. He began his film career with the short RASTLOS (1987). It was only two years later that he directed the highlyacclaimed feature film VERFOLGTE WEGE (1989), which won a German Camera Award in 1990 and a Bavarian Film Award in 1990 for Best Young Direction. A selection of his awardwinning films includes: the TV movies BUSINESS WITH FRIENDS (1991), TO RUN AND TO DIE (1994), THE THERAPIST (1997), RHAPSODY IN BLOOD (1998), WHISKY SOUR (2000), DIE GEISELN VON COSTA RICA (2000), MS. Charleen, nearly 16, is one of those teens who seem to carry the weight of the world on their shoulders. Maybe it‘s her traineeship at an undertaker‘s, or her passion for Kurt Cobain Charleen seems drawn to the darker regions, even though she won‘t pass up such Hollywoodworthy, communionwithnature moments like getting soaked in the rain. Her mom thinks

something‘s wrong with her, but Charleen only wants to be left in peace. One day, feeling especially melodramatic and rebellious, she decides to call it quits with life. Luckily, her botched suicide attempt doesn‘t take her to the hereafter, but to the hereinthehospital. Now comes real stress with her crazy family, a creepy therapist, a bythebook social worker, a perplexed best friend and a classroom full of idiots. But wait a minute, there‘s also Linus, the school nerd whom she meets at the therapist‘s. Weird for sure, but somehow caring, interested and fun to be with. In fact, life is really starting to be fun. After her first kiss with Linus and their first tentative embraces, it dawns on Charleen that the opposite of death is love and that life deserves a second chance.

MARK MONHEIM , was born in 1977 and studied at the HFF Munich. He made several of short films such as MIT SECHZEHN BIN ICH WEG (30min) in 2008. CHARLEEN MACHT SCHLUSS is his feature debut, for which he was honored with the “Emder Drehbuchpreis” for best screenplay.

He‘s attractive, glamorous, runs a posh salon and is an openly gay celebrity who is seen as a role model for the gay community. But when he plans his first hairproduct line, the cosmetic company rep gets jittery: he feels that just targeting men is too restrictive. What about women? To get an idea of what women want, Tom is forced to work incognito at a hair saloncumbarbershop somewhere in an

edgy Berlin neighborhood run by the sassy, guthonest Heidi.Heidi outfits Tom with a wig and a soccer Tshirt, and mischievously renames him “Horst.” A few days into his undercover work, the bewildered Tom starts to enjoy his role. Heidi‘s selfless and unpretentious nature gives Tom a whole new take on things and helps him create a shampoo that will drive both sexes crazy. His main source of amazement, though, is Heidi herself, who puts up with a soccercrazed boyfriend and has fallen madly in love with the unattainable Tom. He, meanwhile, is being put in his place by his friends, for he, too, has fallen in love: with Heidi... MARCO KREUZPAINTNER made his breakthrough with SUMMER STORM, a comingofage and comingout drama also starring Kostja Ullmann. In 2009, Kreuzpaintner’s fantasy film KRABAT won three German Film Awards. Kreuzpaintner also directed the Roland Emmerichproduced thriller TRADE, starring Kevin Kline, in 2007.

KAFKA‘S THE BURROW is based on the unfinished novel of the same name by Franz Kafka, which has never previously been adapted for film. It tells the story of a man in his prime who, having seemingly achieved everything, has entrenched himself in his burrow, a fortresslike apartment complex. But no matter how hard he tries to ignore it, there it is: the world outside. Surveillance cameras should ensure his safety and security, but the nightmare outside can‘t be stopped: they know he is there, they want him, they want his wealth... and they are on their way.

KAFKA‘S THE BURROW is a film about isolation and dissociation, fear, and loneliness in our time.

JOCHEN ALEXANDER FREYDANK was born in 1967 in East Berlin. He started his career in the early 90s as an editor and assistant director for various television and film productions. In 1999, after five rejections from film schools in Berlin and Potsdam, he decided to set up his own film production company, Mephisto Film. His first short film was the macabre comedy HAPPY END, followed by the short film EMERGENCY. In 2002, he made the satiric short film DUTY, which had its world premiere at the Montreal World Film Festival and was subsequently shown at more than 40 other international festivals. Freydank then directed, cowrote and produced the short film TOYLAND, which was screened around the world at numerous film festivals and won more than 30 international awards. In February 2009, TOYLAND won the Oscar® for Best LiveAction Short Film. Parallel to his work as a short film director, Freydank also wrote screenplays for several TV movies and series, and directed commercials, stage plays and two TV movies. KAFKA‘S THE BURROW is his feature film debut.

Louise (60), a strong, independent molecularbiologist and daughter of Doris (77), decides to get pregnant and have a baby. Frans (60), a galleryowner, lifelong bachelor and father of Max (27), decides to restart his career by discovering the next rising star

Obsessed with Romy, his 27 yearold intern and regular sexmate, the last thing Frans needs is to fall in love with a sixty yearold woman with frozen eggs and a sperm donor. But he does. Old man Pettson lives in a small, red house, spending his time chopping wood, doing odd jobs, working on his inventions, fishing and taking care of his chickens. It seems he has everything he needs in life. However, sometimes Pettson feels lonely. One day his neighbour, Beda Andersson, who takes care of everything warmheartedly, gives him a small tomcat, so the old man has a bit of company. Pettson names him Findus and raises him lovingly. His happiness is perfect when the small cat begins to speak: it is the start of a wonderful, apparently inseparable friendship.

PETTSON AND FINDUS is based on the Swedish author Sven Nordqvist‘s internationally loved children‘s books of the same name (translated into more than thirty languages already).

WRECKED tells the story of three completely normal days in the life of Elizabeth Kiehl: parenting, organic food and therapy are just as much a part of her everyday life as the common visits with her husband to a brothel. The young woman in her early 30s is highly neurotic, always worrying and is afraid of pretty much everything – except sex… and that’s why it is so important to her. She not only wants to be the perfect mother, but also the perfect wife and lover. Radically open, selfconfident and full of ferocious humor, WRECKED is the portrait of a vulnerable young woman who tries to please everyone without losing her own sanity.

SÖNKE WORTMANN was born in Marl in 1959 and attended the University of Television & Film in Munich and the Royal College of Art in London. His graduation film, DREI D (1988), received the Eastman Promotional Award at the Hof Film Days and was nominated for a Student Oscar® in 1990. His debut feature film MAYBE, MAYBE NOT was released in 1994. It became one of the most successful German films of the postwar era. The twohour documentary DEUTSCHLAND. EIN SOMMERMÄRCHEN on the World Cup 2006, produced from over 100 hours of film material, is the most successful documentary in German cinemas. In addition, his most highlyacclaimed films include: ALONE AMONG WOMEN (1991), LITTLE SHARKS (1992), MR BLUESMAN (1993), THE SUPERWIFE (1996), CAM-PUS (1998), ST. PAULI NIGHT (1999), THE HOLLYWOOD SIGN (2000), THE MIRACLE OF BERN (2003), POPE JOAN (2009), THE WEDDING TAPE (2012), and WRECKED (2014).

It is impossible to forget the images from the 24th August 1992 when, in the eastern German city of Rostock, a rampaging mob, to the applause and cheering of more than 3,000 bystanders, besieged and set fire to a residential building containing, among others, more than 120 Vietnamese men, women and children on what has since become known as „The Night Of The Fire.“ The riots became a symbol for xenophobia in the just recently reunited Germany.

WE ARE YOUNG. WE ARE STRONG. recounts the incident from the perspectives of three very different characters. Lien is a Vietnamese woman who settled in Germany, but at the end of the day she will be fighting for her life wondering if the place she called home could ever be one for her. Stefan and his friends are part of the night’s violent turmoil. Young and angry, bored during the daytime, they look forward to the nightly riots and clashes with the police and foreigners. Unable to cope with his grief at the loss of a friend, Stefan gets lost in a circle of violence. Stefan’s father Martin is an ambitious local politician, trapped in a dilemma: does he advance his career or stand up for his ideals and take responsibility, which includes that for his son?

BURHAN QURBANI ‘s family fled Afghanistan in 1979, seeking political asylum in Germany. After finishing school in Stuttgart, he worked in the theater as a dramatist‘s assistant and later as a director‘s assistant. In 2002, he enrolled at the Filmakademie BadenWürttemberg to study Directing. His short films have been screened at festivals around the world and won numerous prizes. SHAHADA (2010), his graduation project and feature debut, premiered in the competition of the Berlinale (2010) and won, among other awards, the Golden Hugo in Chicago.
