Publishers Chalk Talk by Jeffery Neil FoxSpecial Edition Super Guide

Welcome to our annual Holiday Gift Guide. This is the season for gift giving and we suggest that you make www.AuthenticTeamMerchandsie your holiday gift headquarters. We have something for everyone on your list. We recently re launched and revised our web site and we will now be taking the online shopping experience to a higher level. Check out the site today and place your order so you can have your package(s) arrive on time. If you’re in town, you can come to our retail super center that will have extended hours during the holiday season. Gift certificates make a great stocking stuffer. It’s December and we are just a few weeks away from another year. The years seem to flip by. You should spend time reflecting on how your year went, but I suggest that you focus on the now and the future. The holiday season is here and it’s a great time to celebrate life with your family and friends. Supporting and rooting for the home town sports teams is an integral part of the fabric of our community. Tampa has some of the best sports fans in the country rooting and hooting for their team. We are fortunate to have so many sports teams with state-of-the-art stadiums and arenas. My alma Mata the University of South Florida, is now the crown jewel when it comes to sports facilities in the NCAA. The Sun Dome on the Tampa campus is currently being renovated and is scheduled to reopen in the Spring. Everything in the Dome will be new except the skin. A new baseball/softball stadium, new soccer field, new football fields, renovated track and field stadium have all been constructed and completed. The USF Bulls play their home games at Raymond James Stadium. The Ice Palace, home of the Tampa Bay Lightning has had a major facelift. Tampa has become the apex and Mecca for sports in our State of Florida. We do live in challenging economic times. Watching and rooting for your teams live in person and watching on TV is a great escape from the doom and gloom. Tailgating and homegating before the game has become a steadfast American tradition. You just have to put your game face on and get ready for the game. The scoreboard is 0 – 0 when the games start. Fan is short for “fanatical”. People do let their emotions get carried away when watching their teams compete. I believe in miracles, and I’ve seen and experienced many sports miracles during my lifetime. It is exhilarating to watch your teams make big plays. Our Authentic Team Merchandise enterprise supports the fans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the University of South Florida Bulls. Fans “Gear Up For The Game” at our retail store and www.AuthenticTeamMerchandise.com www.AuthenticTeamMerchandise.com

com online store. Check out the new video we produced with your favorite super fan characters having cameo performances at the ATM website. Fans proudly wear clothing with the Bucs and Bulls logo adorned prominently . Fans decorate their cars and have shrines in their homes that showcase their allegiance to their teams. I continue to be amazed at the loyalty and passion that many fans have for our Tampa Bay teams. Many paint up and become a personality character like my good friend, and international Tampa Bay Buccaneer Hall of Fame fan icon, Big Nasty. Big Nasty is the emperor of the Pewter Nation. Everyone has equal access to rooting for their favorite teams. I’m big on traditions. Traditions are difficult to start and impossible to stop. There is nothing better than to be at a live sporting event. But then again, I enjoy watching the action on TV in the comfort of your home or at a watch party at a Sports Bar. Have you ever been to an unusual tailgate? Do you have a favorite recipe or game day tradition? I’d love to hear about your experiences. Send me an email, call or stop by our store. I’ve been fortunate to be credentialed with photo field passes for many professional and collegiate sporting events. Although I take photos of the game action, I find myself focusing my camera on the fans. I like to capture the emotions of fans rooting for their team. You can review my photos at /www.JeffreyNeilFox.com”www.JeffreyNeilFox.com . I bet I have a picture of YOU. I’m a firm believer that fans cheering for their teams actually help the players on the field. We have received rave reviews from the articles that our regular columnists have composed for each issue of Gear Up For The Game. I look forward to reading the See you again next month . A new year ahead filled with opportunities and challenges. Live your life with gusto! Go Bucs! Go Bulls! Jeffrey Neil Fox – Publisher

“I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to know Lee Roy Selmon from his first day as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer and throughout his years after professional football,” said Jeffrey Neil Fox, owner of Bucs and Bulls Heaven. “We are proud to raise money in Selmon’s honor. Do you remember when you were younger and you used to wake up on Christmas morning (or maybe another special Holiday if you are not Christian) with the excitement of opening presents? Or maybe the Holidays mean the excitement of seeing family or friends you don’t regularly see? Well, the Holidays are here! I have to admit, I don’t have that warm fuzzy feeling like I did when I was a kid, but I still love the holiday season more than anytime! I also like being in Florida and not having to worry about snow too:). Nowadays, it’s over to my sister’s home on the East Coast of FL. I’m looking forward to lots of fellowship and talking about our faith with family members. I’m also looking forward to my mom’s sweet potato casserole, my sister’s macaroni and cheese dishes, and having lots of dogs running around playing! Before I start getting visions of sugar plums dancing in my head, I need to create my shopping list and hit the stores. Guess I also need to send my Holiday cards, do I have your address yet? Oh, will need to get my Lamp Shade back, think my college ATO fraternity brother Bill Carlin has this. To start my shopping experience, I look to see who is playing in my annual football pool and go down to Bucs and Bulls Heaven, to find some Bucs, Bulls, Lightning, and Rays stuff. Even though all of my family favorite teams aren’t our local sports programs, I try to keep them that way. Mom can go with any of these teams with probably a jewelry item I’m thinking, Brother-In-Law Mike

likes the Auto-related stuff, Nephew Zac will take anything sports-related, and my dog Dixie likes something new whether it is a clothing attire, lease, or a chew toy. She likes to rip apart the opposing teams mascot while we watch the game together. They try to keep the store and online shopping experience fresh with new things. This year, as a tribute to our beloved Tampa Bay son, Lee Roy Selmon’s passing, rest his soul, they have some new items around “Believing”, BULLieving, motivating others to do their best and Finishing Strong. Lee Roy was instrumental in helping get this tradition going at USF and in the community. He was the biggest “Believer”, “BULLiever”, “Bucliever” and exemplified “Finish Strong” in all he did. If you need an inexpensive Finish Strong wristband, or a nicer Pewter Cuff Bracelet, or other items, you should check them out. They also have some nice motivational Finish Strong books and reading materials. The new “BULLievers Finish Strong” and “Believers Finish Strong” t shirts are becoming more popular. Oh, and sometimes my teams aren’t doing as well and I have to admit, I’m a little embarrassed to wear a Bucs or Bulls hat, so I put on a Finish Strong hat or visor. They now have these in stock, so check them out! Well, it is time to get out my shopping list and check it twice. I need to find out who has been naughty or nice. Reminds me of a few other gifts I need to get... May your Holidays be a truly blessing to all and may you never stop Believing in Finishing Strong! Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Holidays!

Believers Always Finish Strong!Jeff [email protected]

Holiday Gift Giving RulesHoliday Gift Giving RulesHoliday Gift Giving Rules

Holiday season is here and gift shopping is inevitable.  Just like in sport, there are rules to gift shopping.  Some rules may be bent, penalties may apply; some rules are absolute, never to be broken lest the relation be forever miffed at thee.  In general, gifts can be categorized into several subcategories for ease of discussion.  These include consumables, personal items, fluff and practical stuff.  Your gift giving can be simplified by applying the appropriate category to your intended recipient.  Here’s an example.  Let’s say that the person you are buying for has more money than Warren Buffet.  What do you get the guy or girl who can have whatever they want?  Well, the answer is something they won’t get for themselves.  This includes the hard to find, the one of a kind, the silly but not necessarily expensive unique gift that makes them smile.  Some examples include monogrammed gifts.  No one ever buys himself or herself an item and has it engraved or imprinted.  This can be combined with a practical item so that you can increase your bang for the buck.  Think monogrammed shaving kit or gym bag.   The older folks on your list may present their own unique challenges.  Many don’t like much of anything and don’t mind telling you so in front of everyone…again, and again.  If your list includes a grumpy older person, get them something consumable.  Make it something that is allowed at Shady Acres and does not conflict with dietary dictates.  In a nutshell, don’t get alcohol for someone prone to falling down and no candy for the diabetic. Acceptable items

Page 16: Gear Up For The Game Winter 2011

items include specialty gifts like seasonal fruit delivery, a fancy pre-packaged cheese selection or maybe some hard to find item from yesteryear.  I have a source for Tupelo Honey, nectar of the Gods and savior to oatmeal everywhere. How about the teen wants-to-be-twenty on your list?  Talk about hard to please and ungrateful.  Sheesh.  Consumable items are an option, and since they are very likely not going to be appreciated anyway, choose something the teen will open and feel compelled to share with you.  Make it something you like, for example, a big tin of candied popcorn or nuts.  If the teen is not in braces, a multi-pack of gum in strange, exotic, multi-flavors with mysterious black packaging is a good inexpensive choice.  It will not go un-chewed.  In the practical column, movie passes are almost universally appreciated.  Do NOT expect to buy this relation clothes, shoes or personal accessories that they would actually wear.  It’s a rule that they must not like such an item from an older family member, as you are no longer cool.  Then there’s the significant other on your list.  Well, the good news is most expect to receive multiple gifts from their partner, so there are more chances to get it right.  Why not something from each category?  A consumable should be easy.  You eat together so you really ought to know what they like.  A personal item takes a bit more thought, but I can give you a hint.  Guys, if it is presented in a fuzzy little box with a hinge, is shiny and relatively expensive, it’s a winner.  In adult terms, fluff translates into a stuffed animal.  Easy to procure and cute as a button, he’ll be donated to the next toy drive.  Get one that reminds you of that early date to the zoo or aquarium.  No practical value, but there will be a hug in it for you.  Truth is, no well-adjusted adult really wants a useless, fur covered fake animal made in Myanmar.  That leaves the practical stuff category for the loved one.  If you purchase any item meant to improve appearance, reduce an ailment or odor, you FAIL.  Go directly to the doghouse (or laundry room), do not pass go.  It’s a rule.  Are you listening female audience?  He really doesn’t want you to buy him a nose hair trimmer; though everyone can see he needs one.  A practical item should be thoughtful.  For example, a new color of begonia for the weekend green thumb on your list.  A book of free car wash coupons is not a sexy gift, but very practical and will be appreciated for months to come. One last note, a gift from any of the four main categories can be made better when it bears the logo of the recipient’s favorite sports team. Let AutheticTeamMerchandise.com and Bucs & Bulls Heaven be your holiday gift headquarters.  Go Bucs!  Go Bulls!  Go Donner and Blitzen!

AND THE GIVING OF OUR TIME

A TIME FOR GIFT GIVING, MEALS WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS

AND THE GIVING OF OUR TIME

A TIME FOR GIFT GIVING, MEALS WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS

AND THE GIVING OF OUR TIME

It is that time of year again for fighting traffic and shopping in those completely packed malls. Black Friday is over and I hope everyone survived. I have been thinking of times we need to have a special gift for gift exchanges, office parties and those special holiday dinners with friends. You know, where etiquette is to take a special host or hostess gift. Our daughter, Holly, gave birth to our granddaughter, just four weeks ago. Of course, Makenna Jane now has a baby buccaneer onesie, bib and pacifier. I had to be ready when the stork made the delivery. Recently, the Pewter Nation Super Fans took part in a video at Bucs and Bulls Heaven. It was crowded in the baby section, as three of us were shopping for our soon to come babies. Congratulations are in order to Roman Captain Bones Diaz, on the birth of his son, Roman Gabriel. I have already picked up some great stocking stuffers, not only for the grandchildren, but for the adults. They love opening the stocking goodies better than the presents. My grandson, Jared, just caught me on Facebook. His family is traveling from Dayton, to our home for our Christmas family gathering, and of course, the Buccaneer/Dallas game. He just informed me that he would like money for Christmas and a ride to Buc Heaven, to choose his gifts! That will work! We cannot forget those specially chosen ornaments we search for each year for our Christmas trees. Santa’s letters are arriving, and many of the items on those children’s wish lists are available at Bucs and Bulls Heaven super store on Florida Avenue. On several occasions, I have been able to create sport themed gift baskets for charity events and silent auctions. You may want to consider attending the St. Joseph’s Children Hospital Charity Luncheon and fashion show by Georgette’s, on

Page 25: Gear Up For The Game Winter 2011

December 7th. There will be tables of awesome silent auction items and an array of gift baskets. You can reserve a table and invite those special people in your lives for this most wonderful charity event that is held each year. Email me at the address below for information. At this time of year, Tom and I make sure we find time to serve our church and community. There are many ways in which you can serve: soup kitchens, Metropolitan Ministries, provide meals for the shut-ins, ring those bells outside of stores with the Salvation Army, etc. Just inquire at your place of worship, work or look at the community event calendars from our local TV stations or internet sites. Reach out to those in need, not only around the holidays, but throughout each year. There are events taking place every weekend around Tampa Bay. We have helped with Feed the Bay, Salvation Army, along with many events sponsored by our pirate krewe, The South Shore Marauders, such as The Coastal

Clean-Up, Breast Cancer Walk, Light the Night for Leukemia and many others. There are so many opportunities to serve others. Involving your

children in a family activity of serving others, builds character. It will make a difference in their lives and in those

you are serving. Everyone will receive the blessings. I remember after the hurricanes rolled through our state, we took Holly to the

Salvation Army, where we bagged rice and beans and boxed up food for those families whose homes were destroyed by these

horrible storms. We were amazed at how semi trucks were arriving from states as far away as Minnesota, with food and supplies for

our communities. One year, as we were finishing a Saturday morning with The Coastal Clean Up in

Apollo Beach, we heard there was a need for volunteers to assist in the search of a

missing little girl in Ruskin. So Tom and I hopped in the car and met with the sheriff’s department, walking through woods,

searching for her. I guess these memories are cropping up in my mind, because of this time of

year.

We are having summer weather right now and it doesn’t seem quite right, getting ready to put up lights and decorations. After all, this isn’t how it felt back home in Dayton, Ohio. No snow? No blizzards? But the calendar doesn’t lie and now it turns dark at 6:00 p.m. So, get out your shopping lists and call your children and grandchildren to get a copy of their letters to Santa. Below is where you can shop for awesome gifts of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, USF Bulls, Tampa Bay Lightning and Tampa Bay Rays. I wish for the richest blessings in 2012, for your families and friends. GO BUCS, GO BULLS, GO RAYS AND GO LIGHTNING!!

Super sports fans, isn’t it hard to believe that the holidays are upon us? What better way to utilize the season than by creating fabulous, mouth- watering meals ? Naturally, this is the time of year that I absolutely love! Even here in the Tampa Bay Area, we see the leaves beginning to change, clouds moving faster, the nights cooler, all getting me in the greatest mood to cook! A chill is in the air, football and hockey season are to be enjoyed, so who could ask for more? What I like to do during this glorious season, is to take a crock pot or a pot that you can keep simmering on the stove, and pour apple cider, cinnamon sticks, orange or grapefruit juice, sliced apples with whole cloves placed in them, cut up tangerines or oranges. I keep this going by adding more apple cider, as needed. The aroma in your house will bring back memories of your childhood and keep a festive mood for as long as you wish. So,let’sgetgoingsowecanfigureoutwhatamazingmealswecanprepare. Are you ready to explore? One item that I like to start preparing the night before is delicious Cranberry relish, which is a must, so we’ll start with this chunky, sweet and tart, nutty creation, which is easy. Follow the directions on the “fresh” bag of cranberries. (The orange must be washed thoroughly to get the pesticides and wax off), but then cut it into large sections and put it into the food processor with the whole bag of cranberries. I like to add dried cherries, choice of nuts, and the sugar to taste. Mix well, but leave it nice and chunky and refrigerate. If I’m having a tailgating party, on the night prior to the game, I soak the turkey in spiced apple cider, garlic powder, & ground cloves. (You can use the spiced cider above) To prepare it for smoking, I separate the breast from the skin with my hand, add rosemary sprigs, orange peels, or ½ cup of orange zest, fresh garlic, and salt and pepper and dried cranberries. Then I place ½ apple in both the neck and body cavities (the apple guarantees you a very, very moist bird) and add the same as above, but also, add onion and rub the body with butter, salt and pepper, garlic powder, ground cloves, orange zest, and chopped rosemary. Once the smoker is ready, put the turkey on the lowest grate, depending upon what kind of smoker you have, but do not open it for several hours. (Make sure you have a pan under it to catch the delicious drippings). Meanwhile, the neck, gizzards, and heart can be put into a pot with one onion, salt & pepper, and water to make a good broth (add water as needed). After several hours, wet the bird with the collected drippings and continue to cook until you can insert the thermometer and it reads 180 degrees. Once done, wrap in foil. Then take the drippings and broth, combining them,

while adding seasonings to your liking. (I do not make gravy of this, but no reason why you can’t). Enjoy this festive, spiced and smoked masterpiece! Complementing this, I boil about 6 large sweet potatoes in salted water. When tender, drain and put into the food processor, add 1 stick of butter, ¾ cup of brown sugar, 2 teaspoons of cinnamon, juice and zest of an orange, dried, chopped cherries or raisins, pumpkin spice, one bag of mini-marshmallows, and whip until well mixed. Butter a casserole dish, place mixture into it and cover with more marshmallows and chopped pecans. Bake at 325 degrees until the marshmallows are browned and melted. If you want to be really creative, roll the mixture into the marshmallows and pecans, creating min-balls of this tasty compliment to your turkey. For my veggie, as a traditionalist, I clean fresh string beans and Juliann them in the food processor. In a pan, add salt to the water and boil until al dente’, but not soft. Toast almond slices in butter, salt and pepper, and garlic powder, then mix into the string beans. Turn the heat down low until ready to serve.Garlic mashed potatoes give another choice, so make your mashed potatoes as you usually do, take fresh garlic, about 6 chunks and slice. Put into a heat safe dish with olive oil, and salt and pepper. Bake until golden brown and then toss into the potatoes. Smashing!!! I like to make chocolate bark. In a double boiler, add your semi-sweet, plus a bag of dark chocolate into the pan and stir until smooth. Mix chopped pistachios, hazel nuts, and currant choice. Spread out on waxed paper, or non-sticking foil and let form. Sprinkle sea salt for an added zing. You will want more than a few, so enjoy. Now there are pecan pies and Jo’s pecan pie. I make my pie crust, however, I push pecans into the dough throughout, prior to adding my mixture. It makes a wonderful, crunchy crust. Mix 3 large eggs together, add 1 teaspoon of vanilla, ¼ teaspoon of sea salt, ¾ cup of dark brown sugar and dark corn syrup, 1 stick of unsalted butter melted and mix together. I like to use a lot of pecans, so I suggest stirring in at least 3 cups. Bake @ 375 degrees for at least 50-60 minutes. Let cool and serve with fresh whipping cream or pecan or vanilla ice cream. Rather than a salad, I place a relish dish with cherry peppers, spring onions, radishes, carrots, celery, and black olives. For the green olives, I take out the pimento and replace with a slice of orange. Pickled artichokes are also nice to add. Now that’s my contribution for something different for you to try for your tailgaiting, homegaiting, or holiday party. Enjoy!
