Global Education Coalition – New York City

Objective• The primary objective of the Coalition is to be a driving force in promoting and providing

global education among US youth. We will do this by being key stakeholders in professional development training, curriculum design and program delivery, and education policy.

Goals• The Coalition seeks to be a key service provider of professional development training in

global education on a local, state, national, and international level.• The Coalition will leverage our combined resources to develop and provide global

education curriculum, services, and opportunities for US youth. • The Coalition will work together to be key stakeholders in advocating for and developing

global education policy.

TYPES OF GNG PROGRAMS – 2011 – 2012

Year-Long Programs– Students Rebuild (Haiti and DRC)– Youth Talk (Middle East)– One LENS (Southeast Asia)– Youth LINKS (Afghanistan)

PULSE – 2-Part Current Affairs Program– 9/11: 10 Years Later– Human Trafficking in SE Asia– Economics of Corn and Cotton

Programs include:

• Project-based learning curricula• Teacher professional development• Storyboard outline of each session• Tech support• Facilitator

GLOBAL CONCERNS CLASSROOM (GCC)• Global education program of Concern US,

an int’l humanitarian aid org• Provides free resources and services:

– Classroom guides to global issues, student-narrated videos, thought-provoking posters

– Classroom presentations from Concern staff from the field

– Hands-on globally themed student workshops– Regular support for global clubs and extra-

curricular activities– Curriculum support and educator training

TeachUNICEF• Stands for the Education Department of the U.S. Fund for

UNICEF, the public face of UNICEF in the United States

• Provides a variety of opportunities for American educators to include global learning in both the formal and afterschoolsetting. TeachUNICEF’s goal is to increase the number of global citizens in the United States by:– hosting a portfolio of free globally-

focused learning resources at http://teachuniucef.org

– engaging educators with trainings and digital outreach

– supporting online youth discussion through a pilot global-share program: UNICEF Connecting Classrooms
