Geek Table CollectiveThe Geek Table collective, formed as a collaborative project
in January 2013, contains LCA Graphic Design third years:
Claudia Griffin, Baljeet Kaur Samra, Kirsty Alderson, Kirsty
Hardingham, Sophie Wilson, Sarah Pritchard, Lisa Whitaker
and Bethany Yates. We are not a studio, but a group ofindividuals, with the purpose of contacting studios together,
and helping to promote each other to our contacts.
AboutOur name originates from our hard working nature and
our dedication to our work, as we enjoy to creatively solve
problems and continue to develop and learn as designers.
We are a multi-talented group, with a varied range of
interests including branding, packaging, publication design, illustration, typography and print.
Publication CollaborationBaljeet Kaur Samra & I collaborated to push this brief
further and to create the geek table publication, printed
as newspapers. We put our skills together, with Baljeet
working on type and layout, while I wrote the body copy
and collected the content. This publication showcases thevaried responses to mini briefs we have set ourselves, with
themes reflecting our individual graphic design experiences
and processes.

CollectiveBrand IdentityHaving all created logo ideas, the final one was created
by Bethany Yates, using the fonts Nexa Bold and NexaLight. This logo appeals to all of us, despite our differentstyles. We have also used an image of geek glasses,
created by Kirsty Hardingham, as another part of our brandidentity, which represents the fun and geeky theme.

Method of DeliveryThe newspapers we printed will be sent out to studios that
we wish to contact. As there are eight of us, each sending
out at least two newspapers, as well as all having business
cards to give out, we have the opportunity to gain a lot of
coverage.
Craft GeekEach member of the collective has their own ge ek title,
which represents their individual skills and interest. My title
is Craft Geek, representing the skill and careful attention
to detail that goes in to my work, as well as my use of
materials and hand crafting that features in my work.
Mini Geek Table BriefsThe publication showcases the varied responses to mini
briefs we have set ourselves, with themes reflecting our
individual graphic design experiences and processes.
Brief 1 - What does geek mean to you?Brief 2 - What helps you to get in the graphic desi gn zone?
Brief 3 - What is your guilty pleasure to help you work hard?
Brief 4 - What would your alter ego be?

CollectiveThe DebateThe mixed interests in the collective between type and
image sparked our own debate, to find out whether more
people were team type or team image. We proposed this
to be a twitter campaign, which would give us an excuse to
contact industry professionals, asking their opinion, using the#teamtype and #teamimage hashtags.

Stickers & BadgesTo continue with the debate, I have created stickers and
badges, using the existing brand identity, which we propose
to have out at events where our work would be featured,
to spark more interest in our debate, and therefore, more
interest in the Gee k Table. We would want other designersto tweet images of themselves wearing the appropriate
badge to say if they were team type or team image.
PostcardsThese postcards, which I created, can work individually or
as a set, featuring every members response to brief 2:
What helps you get in to the Graphic Design zone?.
The back of the postcards contain information about the
Geek Table collective, as well as contact information.
Web IdentityThe products Baljeet & I have created all link back to our
Cargo Collective website, which has been arranged by
Lisa Whitaker. We also have an online presence on different
social media, including: twitter, tumblr and pinterest, which
different members take it in turns to keep updated andconnect with studios.

CollectiveBusiness CardsBaljeet & I created these Gee k Table business cards, which
were printed lithographically on to 400gsm matt laminate,
for a high quality and professional finish, giving the right first
impression to those who may pick up or be given a business
card.

Brief 1This brief contains the definition of the word craft, as my
geek title is craft geek. The poster is relevant to my design
style, featuring hand drawn typography and the use of a
material background. A subtle use of gold foil is applied to
the ampersand to show my love of print finishes.
Brief 3This brief contains my guilty pleasure, which helps me to
do my work. Caffeine keeps me going when there is a lot
of graphic design to be created, and these Kawaii style
illustrations show my guilty pleasure in a cute and innocent
form.
Brief 2This brief contains a quote which helps me to get in the
zone, to work hard, reminding me to keep on learning.
Again, I have used illustrative typography, one of my
favourite styles of design. We set the restriction that the
response to this brief has to use the colour orange.
Brief 4As I am an image based designer, who loves the use of
colour, this response shows what my Graphic Design alter
ego would be, containing only typography and working in
black and white.
