The Gordon TAFE and Deakin University are the tertiary

post-school qualifications.
Collaboration between education and industry aligns
student learning with skills that local employers need.
In addition, students develop relationships with industry,
which improves their employment prospects.
What’s involved?
The Geelong P-TECH partnership focuses on four
growth industries in the region: Health, Information
Technology, Automotive and Business.
Aligned with regional skill demands, the P-TECH
pathways available at Newcomb Secondary College
allow students to develop specific skills and knowledge
that will equip them for a STEM-related career in their
chosen industry.
All P-TECH pathways also teach general skills that
enable students to adapt to an ever-changing
work environment. These skills include: problem
solving, communication, digital literacy, presentation
skills, critical thinking, creativity, teamwork and more.
“This opportunity has enabled us to invest our time in the youth of Geelong. This investment has also been equally rewarding for the mentors, who have thoroughly enjoyed watching the development of the students over the course, along with playing an instrumental role in the program roll-out. P-TECH – we hope retains young people within school, as well as exposing them to the workforce and assisting them into pathways beyond their high school years.”
