IntroductionLCM Italia designs and manufactures isolation quarter turn ball valves for Oil & Gas and Petrochemical Industry.LCM valve product stands on the highest quality and performance levels among the Italian ball valve manufacturers.

ProductrangecoversmanualoperatedandactuatedOn-Offvalvestoserveseveralapplicationsandfluidstohandle:oil,gas,con-densate, water, steam, various chemicals and aggressive media. All valves are designed by LCM Italia Engineering Department using the most advanced CAD & FEM software.

Valve body and trims are manufactured from forged or casted raw materialsproducedbythemostqualifiedO&Gsubsuppliers.

struction)FBV are available with thermoplastic seats (seat supported) or with metalseatedconfiguration.Seal selection and valve features are function of service condition.

• Full bore is in accordance with API-6D table1.• Reduced bore are typically one size less up to 12”, two sizes up to 24” and subject to agree-

ment for larger sizes (API-6D).• Special full bores (matching exactly the line ID for pipeline “piggable” application) is available

upon request.• Specialreducedbores(doublereducedorVenturitype)matchingaspecificCvrequirement

are available upon request.• B16.34 minimum bore may be quoted for HP applications.

Valve ends connection are in accordance with the following ASME standards if not otherwise requiredorspecified:

• NPT threaded to B1.20.1 _ SW (socket weld) to B16.11• BW (butt welding) ends to B16.25• Flanged connection (integral RF or RTJ) to ASME B16.5 (up to 24”) MSS-SP44 (for 22”),

B16.44-A(26”&largerupto900#class).• API-6Aflangeaccordingnominalsize/rating(RTJ/BXasapplicable).• HUBendsproprietaryconnectionisavailableuponspecificrequest.• NORSOKL-005compactflangeisavailableuponrequestormaybeproposedforsizes/rat-

ings that exceed ASME traditional connections. ASME B16.10 Long Pattern is the reference specification adopted for valve face to face or end to end dimen-sions (BV to API-6D table 4).Top entry TMBV in classes 150# and 300# are normally supplied to class 600# minimum length as manufactur-ing standard.

Temperature RangeLCMballvalvesareavailableforandextendedtemperaturerange:From -250°C (-418°F) to over 537°C (1000°F).Valvesequippedwithpolymericsealsmaybesuitablefor:

• Elastomeric grades: (-60°C) -30°C ÷ +150°C (+230°C)

• Thermoplastic grades: (-250°C) -50°C ÷ +190°C (+300°C)On brackets are reported limits of specialized seals compounds / special seals design configuration.

Graphitic packing sets are available as dynamic seal for extreme high & low temperature applica-tions (lower than -50°C or higher than 230°C).

Metallicprimarystaticsealsareavailable(e.g.Spiralwound,Camprofile,RTJ,BXorotherproprietarymetallicseals rings types) for high pressure or extreme temperature range.Pleasenotethatvalvedesigntemperaturerangeisoftenrequiredaccordingtorelevantpipingclassspecificationthatmayjustreflectthepressure-temperaturecapabilityofselectedpipematerialanditsmetallicaccessories.Operating temperature range a ball valves are normally limited by selected seals and seat polymeric material.Valves that may subject to low temperature exposure after gas blow down conditions normally need just to guar-anteethepressurecontainingintegrityandarecommonlydefinedas“notoperable”valves.Valves that are foreseen for low temperature operating condition due to real process condition or installation in arctic climes are equipped with design features and material selection rated for minimum expected operating temperature (e.g. low temperature or cryogenic seals, extended bonnets etc).

• METAL to METAL – Seat and ball sliding sealing surfaces are both metallic. Typical hard-facing adopted by LCM is a Tungsten carbide coating obtained through high pressure HVOF process.

Sealing action is obtained by perfect matching of the hard-faced sliding surfaces that are accurately grinded and mate lapped using abrasive compounds.

Sealingperformancesareinfluencedbyseveralfactors(mainlyrelatedtonatureofthetestfluid,applieddifferentialpressureandnominal bore size) and contractually are governed by the applicable product specs and eventual additional customer require-ments.

Welded Body cylindrical or spherical bodyLCM welded body ball valves is formerly a side entry construction where the forged pressure containing parts are permanently welded after trim installation. SAW of pressure containing parts is always a narrow gap type and is 100% volumetrically inspected with UT.

Single or Double Piston EffectSeveraldesignconfigurationswithpolymericseatsealsareavailableintermofseatbehavior:

• Single Piston Effect seat (SPE): assures an unidirectional sealing (as up-stream seat) and guarantee the self-relieving action in case of overpressure into valve body cavity.

• Double Piston Effect seat (DPE): assures a bi-directional sealing action, so may perform a redundant function sealing also as downstream seat (if upstream seat is leaking). In case of overpressure into valve body cavity (e.g. due to liquid thermal expansion) DPE seats will not release overpressure into the line therefore an external automatic release system is normally adopted by agreement with the customer.

LCM standard ball valves are equipped with independent floating seats with single piston effect configuration in order to guarantee the “self-relieving action”, making the valve suitable for most gas, condensing and liquid services.

Standard seats equipped with polymeric seals are single piston effect with self-relieving feature.

Soft seated valves are equipped with engineered thermoplastic seat insert while standard metal to metal seated valves are provided with Tungsten carbide hard-faced ball and seats (HP HVOF coating process).

Emergencysealantinjectionports/flushingfacilitymaybeprovideduponrequeststartingfrom medium nominal bore sizes.

Emergency sealant injection is normally used to temporarily restore the perfect sealing of leak-ingvalvesthatmayhaveseatinsertdamagedbyforeignmatterspresentintheflow.

Flushing it’s always recommended before injection of sealant and may be used to clean seat pocketsandballsurfaceincaseofsolidparticlesorwaxysubstancesinprocessflow.

Injection ports in direct connection with the line are always provided with a separate check valve. A second non return valve is integral with standard injectors that are rated up to 700 barg and always equipped with an anti-blow-out needle isolation cup.

Uponrequestinjectorsthreadsmaybeprotectedfromcontactwithprocessfluidandatmos-pheric corrosion by elastomeric or thermoplastic seals.

LF2-Zinc-Plated & Chrome threated, 316-SS, Dplx-SS and Alloy 625, are the typical material selection for these fittings as function of the valve trim material and valve installation. Separate check valve is 316-SS minimum.

In case of valves with coated internal surfaces or CRA cladding on all wetted parts solid 316 or 625 sleeves and provided.

Vent & Drain “Body cavity connections”V&D sizes comply with API-6D requirements.

Body cavity drain connection ports (combined vent & drain) are provided starting from S sizes.Separate vent & drain ports are supplied starting from 6” nominal bore sizes.

StandardconnectionsareNPTpluggedandsealedusingananaerobicspecificcompoundafter valve FAT.

Valves required with a DB&B or DIB capability are normally equipped with a needle bleeder installed on vent connection or alternatively on combined drain vent ports for small sizes.

Pipe Pups or Transition PiecesPipingclassinformationneedtobespecifiedattheRFQstageforanyBWendedvalve,inor-der to verify if required valve body material may be directly welded to the line grade foreseen.

Butt welding ends valves can be supplied with transition pieces to suit appropriate welding to higher mechanical pipeline grades and guarantee the relevant structural integrity.

Pipe pups may be supplied to facilitate welding operation at site and to avoid seals damages during welding and/or post welding heat treatment operations when foreseen.

High Temperature ValvesValves that need to operate at temperatures that precludes the use of polymeric materials are providedwiththefollowingtypicalconfigurations:• Static and dynamic seals are replaced by metallic or graphite packing/gaskets.• Seating is metal to metal, typically with Chrome Carbide HVOF method.• Stem packing is adjustable and/or live loaded.• Ball equalizing hole is recommended.• HT specialized bearing material are used.• Body penetrations should be avoided or permanently locked after valve FAT.

It’s always recommended that valve will be properly insulated (as piping) in order to equalize body and trim temperatures.

BW ends are typical, RF may be used on LP application only, NCF5 or HUB may be supplied.

Extreme Low Temperature or Cryogenic ValvesCryogenic valves may be supplied Side Entry or Top Entry essentially as function of the end connectionspecified(BWorRF).
