Contact Lenses

Dangerous to where during a lab using chemicals

Why? Even if you are wearing safety goggles, fumes can accumulate under the lens and cause serious injuries or blindness.

Wear a pear of glasses on the days that we do labs using chemicals.

Proper Clothing

Closed toe shoes, long pants, and gloves must be worn

Why? To prevent you from getting chemicals on your skin

Also, long hair must be tied back when using open flames

Safety Scenarios

Someone drops a beaker and glass shatters on to the floor Do not touch the glass, clear out of the area Notify your teacher and I will clean it up

Chemicals splash onto your hand and in your eyes Use the eye was station and clean your skin thoroughly

Someone leaves their bunsen burner unattended Notify your teacher and turn it off!

Fire!!!!! Hit the gas shut off valve Get the fire extinguisher Leave the room
