GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA Bosnia and Herzegovina is located in the South Eastern Europe, in the center of the Balkan Peninsula, bordering the Adriatic Sea, Croatia to the north, west and south, Serbia to the east, and Montenegro to the southeast. It has a diverse ethnic population of the estimated 3.4 million. The country is gifted with natural resources mainly coal, iron ore, bauxite, copper, lead, zinc, cobalt, manganese, nickel, clay, gypsum, salt, sand, timber, and hydro-power. It enjoys a favorable climate for agriculture and tourism. Bosnia and Herzegovina has an educated workforce with relatively low labor wage costs. In Bosnia, the distinction between a Bosnian and a Herzegovinian is maintained as a regional, rather than an ethnic distinction. Visas

Procedures at both the borders and the airport are standardized and uncomplicated. Valid passport is

required. EU, American and Canadian citizens do not require a visa to enter the country. Most other nations

do need a visa, and getting one is possible through the Bosnian embassies in your respective countries.

Officially, people who enter the country as a visitor need to register themselves with the police within 24

hours after their arrival in the country (if you are staying in hotel you DO NOT need to register to the police).

If you enter Bosnia and Herzegovina by car, you will have to buy vehicle insurance at the border. You do not

need this insurance if you have a green card that covers Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The minimum amount of financial resources required for the stay of foreigners on the territory of Bosnia

and Herzegovina is KM 150.00 (or equivalent in freely convertible foreign currency) - for each day of the

intended stay.

Currency

BAM is the internationally recognized symbol for the Convertible Mark, while

KM is used locally. One Mark is divided into 100 pfennigs and notes come in

denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 KM.

Catering establishments, shops, shopping malls and travel agencies in Bosnia

and Herzegovina cannot accept EURO payments since October 1st, 2010.

Foreign currencies must be exchanged to the official local currency Convertible

Mark (BAM or KM).

The exchange rate for the Convertible Mark is fixed to the Euro: 1.95BAM = 1

Euro.

Coins: 5,10, 20 and 50 pfennig; 1, 2 i 5 KM

Banknotes: 10, 20, 50, 100 i 200 KM

Climate

The southern parts of the country have a Mediterranean climate. The Western and the Central parts

experience hot and arid summers reaching up to 40 °C while in the winter, temperatures are below freezing

with lots of snow. The north - eastern region has a typical continental climate.
