Wellness Excuse PolicyNon-Medical Professional Excuse• Each student may be excused from one wellness class per quarter with a note from their

parent.

• Occasionally a student will feel healthy when he/she leaves the house in the morning, but become ill before wellness class.  The student is permitted to sit out of class if he/she has not used their parent note for the unit.  The instructor will place a -30% beside the students name (the penalty for cutting a class).  It is the student's responsibility to bring in a note from home to retroactively excuse him/her from the class.

• Absences from class caused by a trip to the school nurse also count as a non-medical professional excuse.  Student's must obtain a pass from their wellness instructor before their session at the nurse's office.

Medical Professional Excuse• A note from the student's doctor will excuse him/her from multiple classes.  The student's

excuse must have a re-entry date.

• Individuals under the care of Wilson Athletic Trainer for injuries occurring during athletic competition may also obtain an excuse from that staff member.

Female Issues• Female students are not excused from physical education class for female issues.

Excused individuals are responsible for all academic information

If you are not healthy enough to participate in wellness class you are not healthy enough to participate in school sanctioned athletics.

Bonus PointsStudent can earn bonus points toward their grade by:Leading StretchingThe instructor will select a student that is prepared for class and has

reached their fitness development grade to lead the class through stretching. A student will receive five points toward their wellness grade each time they lead stretching.

Extra Credit ArticlesExtra credit will be added to a student's grade two weeks before the end of the quarter.

Each extra credit article will elevate a student's grade 5 points (not five percentage points) closer to the total possible points for the quarter. There is a limit to the number of percentage points a student can earn via extra credit work. Student can either elevate their grade to an eighty-five percent or add a total of ten percentage points to their grade. This will be determined by the method that has the greatest impact on the student's grade. To earn extra credit points, a student must select an article from the newspaper that deals with a health topic (nutrition, sex education, drugs, diseases, genetics, fitness, etc). The individual must then write two paragraphs about the article, the first summarizing the articles and the second giving the person's reaction.
