The RELVAS company
RELVAS is a family business that belongs to the Relvas family since its start in 1926. Since 2014 the Schneider/ICAS group of companys joined RELVASas a major shareholder and took over the industrial lead. Schneider/ICAS isknown as the Iconic producer of champagne type wirehoods. The familyowned group is guaranteeing the continuation of RELVAS organic growth. In 2014 the company had a turnover of 17,5 million €.
The company is divided in two industrial plants
• Relvas Corticadas de Lavre (South of Portugal) – reception, storage and preparing of unprocessed cork to manufacture natural cork discs and natural cork granulates
• Relvas Mozelos (North of Portugal) – reception of natural cork discs and granules and assemble it to Champagne Cork Stoppers

Cork Storage• 22ha for storage of 100% of cork
purchased. Soil cposition is sandy allowing good drainage
• Cork lots to be stored longer will be covered by zinc based aluminum and supported over cement barres to allow drainage
Critical defects rejection• Before storage cork is selected to
separate thick cork from the thinner cork and to eliminate cork critical defects (feet and yellow stain, etc…)

Patented boiling system• Performed on cork 2 times to reduce
dust and allow organoleptic nonconformities elimination and also good machinability
Internal laboratory• Two SPME-GC-MS for monitoring
including TCA
• Physical controls on various products -specific weight, moisture, particle size
• Approval of lots purchased concerning the content TCA
• Systematic monitoring of TCA on the boiling water, washers and granules

Artificial visual inspection on discs • Inspection of discs through laser and
color cameras in all the surface of the disc;
• Allows to separate the discs into different grades
