Adultsareage18andover.AgesaredeterminedbyageonJuly1.Youthmayonlyenterindivisionsdesignatedas(Y)or(AY).

7. Entries in Adult classes are limited to oneentryperclassperhousehold.EntriesinYouthclassesarelimitedtooneentryperclassperexhibitor.

8. Each entrant must have his/her own exhibitor number obtained by making official entry. Only one person may be listed on an entry form. Anyone who does not have an exhibitor number will not receive premium money or awards.

9. AllentriesintheFoodDepartmentmustbetheproductoftheexhibitor,madeintheirhomekitchenandnotameansoflivelihood.Individualswhohaveearned25%ormoreoftheirincomefromthefollowingactivitiesinthelast24monthsarenoteligibletoentertheFoodDepartment:professionalchefs,bakers,candymakers,caterersorcookinginstructors.Thisincludesanyoneemployedinakitchenpositioninthefoodindustry.Ifyouhavebeentrainedprofessionally,youareineligibletoentertheFoodDepartment.Professionalsmayenterinthesedivisionsonly:DecoratedCakesandGingerbreadHouse.

10. Judgescannotjudgedivisionsinwhichfamilymembershaveentries.

11. Anentrantmaynotenterfoodinadivisionsponsoredbythemselves,afamilymemberorabusinessorcorporationinwhichtheyoranotherfamilymemberhasaninterestorisemployed.

12. Unlessotherwisespecified,entrantsmayenterthesamerecipeintwodifferentdivisions(i.e.youmayenterapieinMachineShedPiesandalsoinanotherpiedivision).A second recipe, product and entry tag are to be presented.

13. Prepackagedmixesmayonlybeusedindivisionsorclasseswherespecified.

14. Forfoodsafety,alleggyolksusedinrecipesmustbecooked.Norecipeswithuncookedeggyolkswillbepermittedunlesseggsarecertifiedaspasteurized.

ENTRY TAGS AND RECIPE15. EntrytagsandstickersforthenumberofarticlesyouenteredwillbemailedinmidtolateJulyalongwithanExhibitorEntryList.

16. Entrytagsmustbefilledincompletelyandclearlyinblackink.Underdescription,writetheclassname.Doublecheckthedivisionnumberandclassnumberonyourentrytag(s)tomakesuretheyareaccurate.

17. AcompletedExhibitorEntryListwillbeneededforeachdayyoubringentriestotheFair.Includeallentriesforthatday.TheExhibitorEntryListmaybephotocopiedforadditionaldays.

18. All recipes should be printed or typed with black ink, single side, on a 8 ½ x 11 sheet of paper. Therecipemustaccompanyeachexhibit(morethanonesheetmaybeused,butpleasenumberthem).Eachingredientmustbelistedinexactmeasurement.Followgeneralrecipeprocedures,listingallstepsofpreparation,pansize,temperature,yieldandbakingtime. Exhibitor’s number, along with age for youth entries, must be in the upper right hand corner of the recipe; the division and class number in the upper left hand corner. Staplethebackoftherecipetothebackoftheentrytagsothejudgescanseetherecipeanditdoesnotinterferewiththefrontoftheentrytag.Recipemaybefoldedafterstaplingtoentrytag.

19. ThesmallsquareidentificationstickersyoureceivefromtheEntryDepartmentaretobefilledoutandplacedonthebottomoftheboardorplateusedforyourentry.Attach your entry tag to the entry and then cover with clear plastic or a zip-lock bag. Do not put the tag or sticker on the plastic covering.(Astringshouldbeaffixedtotheentrytagfirstandthenthestringwiththetagattachedtotheentrysothatthetagislefthanging.)Forcanningentries,putthestickeronthelidandsecureyourentrytagonarubberbandandplaceitaroundtheneckofthejar.Nootherlabelsaretobeonthejars.

20. Ifaproofofpurchaseisrequired,itcanbefromtheproductpackagingorasalesreceiptshowingpurchase.Whenenteringsponsoreddivisionsthatrequireaproofofpurchase,please highlight the sponsor’s product on your recipe and receipt.

CANNED ENTRIES24. All canned productsmust be canned in compliancewith the currentUSDAguidelines for safe canning. Any entries not complyingwith these

guidelineswillbedisqualified.Themethodofprocessing,headspace,processingtime,dateofpreparation, altitude and county name (not county number)inwhichtheproductwascannedmustbeincludedontherecipe.Donotputanyofthisinformationontheentrytag.Ifanentryhasbeenprocessedinapressurecanner,therecipemustincludewhetheradial-gaugeorweighted-gaugecannerwasusedandthepoundsused.

25. AllproductsexhibitedinjarsmusthavebeencannedonorafterAugust18,2019.

26. 27. Cannedproductsmustbecannedinstandardcolorlessjarsandtwo-piecelidsmadeforhomecanning,withnew,metalscrewbandslefton.Two-quartjars;tall,slenderjars;mayonnaise-typejars;orbottlesarenotacceptable.

28. Allcannedproductsmustbemadefromscratchbytheentrantusingfreshingredients.Noartificialcoloringwillbepermittedincannedproductsexceptwheredesignatedintheclasslisting.

29. Allcannedproductswillbeopened,butduetotheremotechanceoffoodpoisoning,vegetables,meats,poultryandfishwillnotbetasted.

30. Cannedgoodsnotawardedaribbonmaybepickeduponehalfhourafterthedivisionisjudged.TheywillalsobeavailableforpickupduringtheFairandonMonday,August24.Anythatarenotpickedupby6:00p.m.onMonday,August24willbedisposedofasdeemednecessary.

31. Cannedgoodsmayonlybeenteredincanningdivisionsunlessspecifiedindivisionrules.

ADMISSION TO THE FAIRGROUNDS32. DISCOUNT ADMISSION TICKETS.Discountadmissionticketscanbepurchasedinadvanceat$9eachforadultsand$5eachforchildren6-11

yearsold.DiscountadmissionticketsandvehicleparkingpassescanbepurchasedfromtheEntryDepartmentanytimepriortotheFairortheycanbepurchasedatthetimeyousubmityourentryformandwillthenbemailedtoyou.

33. VEHICLE PERMITS. AllFoodexhibitorswillbegivenanUnloadPermitthatwillallowavehicletounloadinthedesignatedareasouthoftheElwellFamilyFoodCenter.UnloadPermitallowsforamaximumof20minutestounloadentriesbutdoesnotprovideparking.TheUnloadPermitisnotvalidforadmission.EachpersoninthevehiclewillneedanadmissionticketduringtheFair,August13-23.Ifpurchased,FoodexhibitorswillreceiveaparkingpassfortheNorthLot.

DELIVERY OF ENTRIES34.ObservefoodsafetyguidelinesinpreparingandtransportingentriestotheFair.

35. EARLY DELIVERY. YourentriesmaybebroughtinbeginningonSunday, August 9 between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. or any day prior to judging between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.NoentrieswillbeacceptedonMonday,August10(exception:DecoratedCakesandYouthDecoratedCakes).Ifyourentrieswillnotbejudgedinthenexttwodays,wewillrefrigerateorfreezethematyourrequest.

36. DAY OF CONTEST DELIVERY. Onthedayaspecificdivisionisjudged,youmaybringinyourentriesforthatdivisionuptoonehalfhourpriortojudgingtime.No entries will be received in the last 30 minutes prior to scheduled judging time.

37. YOUR ENTRY MUST BE READY TO BE JUDGED PRIOR TO YOUR ARRIVAL AT THE FAIR. THIS INCLUDES: 1) COMPLETED ENTRY TAGS ATTACHED TO ENTRIES, 2) COMPLETED FOOD STICKERS ATTACHED TO BOTTOM OF BOARD/PLATE OR ON LID OF CANNING ENTRIES, 3) COMPLETED EXHIBITOR ENTRY LIST AND 4) RECIPE STAPLED TO ENTRY TAGS (BACK OF RECIPE TO BACK OF ENTRY TAG). THERE IS NEITHER ROOM NOR TIME TO PREPARE YOUR ENTRY AT THE FAIR. EXHIBITORS WITH ENTRIES THAT ARE READY FOR JUDGING WILL TAKE PRECEDENCE AT CHECK-IN.

39. Microwaveovensandrefrigerators/freezersareavailable.Ifnecessary,thefoodstaffwillchillorheatyourentrybeforepresentingittothejudges.Pleaseincludethenecessaryinstructionsforustofollow(howcut,served,etc.)onapost-itnoteonyourentrytag.

JUDGING40. YouarewelcometoobservethejudgingonAugust11and12withouthavingtopayadmissiontotheFair.

41. Judges’decisionsarefinal.AnypremiumsmaybewithheldatthediscretionofthejudgefornoncompliancewithGeneralorDivisionRules.

42. WinningentrieswillbeondisplayduringtheFairandwillnotbereleasedfromtheFoodDepartmentuntilMonday,August24.

43. Entriesandallnon-placingcannedgoodswillbereleasedafterjudgingiscompletedandthetags/recipeshavebeenremoved(usuallywithin30minutes).Afterjudging,non-placingentrieswillbetakentothestoreroom.Aftertagsareremoved,tableswillbeavailableforclaimingjudgedentries.Noentrantsareallowedinthestoreroom.Anyentries,otherthancannedgoods,notpickedupwithinahalfhourafterjudgingwillbedonatedtoIowaShelterServices.Nofoodentrieswillbereturnedbymail.

AWARDS44. SweepstakesandReserveSweepstakeswillbeawardedindivisionswherenoted.IncaseofatieforSweepstakes,thetwowinnerswilleachreceive

arosette,themoneywillbedividedandtherewillthenbenoReserveSweepstakes.IncaseofatieforReserveSweepstakes,thetwowinnerswilleachreceivearosetteandthemoneywillbedivided.Sweepstakesisawardedtothepersonwinningthemostblueribbonsinthatdivision.Reserve

Sweepstakesisawardedtothepersonwiththesecondhighestnumberofblueribbons.

45. Theoverallwinners(awardedbysponsorsinsomedivisions)willbechosenfromthe1stplaceentriesineachclass.

RECLAIMING ENTRIES46. On Monday, August 24 from Noon until 6:00 p.m. youmaypickupyourenvelope(whichincludestags,judges’commentsandribbons),displayed

fooditemsandcannedgoods.Ifyouwonanaward,therewillbeanoteonyourenvelope.Pleasegototheofficemarked“Awards”toclaimandsignforthem.Beforeleaving,checkthetableforanydishes,containers,etc.thatareYOURS.Any dishes remaining after 6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 24 will be donated to Iowa Shelter Services.

47. If thesponsors’prizeshavenotbeenreceivedbyManagementasofcheck-outday,aFoodDepartmentemployeewill initialyourenvelopeandexplainwhenandhowyouwillgettheprize.

48. BeginningWednesday,August26anduntilFriday,September4,yourenvelopecanbepickedupintheEntryDepartmentlocatedinthelowereastsideoftheAdministrationBuilding.Hoursare9:00a.m.to4:00p.m.onweekdaysand11:00a.m.to2:00p.m.onSaturday,August29andSunday,August30.(Pleasenote:EnvelopeswillnotbeavailableforpickuponTuesday,August25.)After September 4 all unclaimed items become the property of the Iowa State Fair and will be disposed of as deemed necessary.
