Hexane is an organic compound made of the elements and primarily

produced through the refining of petroleum. It has many uses of oil extraction ,

cleaning agent and chemical reagent.

Though this compound has many uses, it is best known for its role as a oil extraction solvent.

Many types of oil seeds, plants and vegetables are treated with it in order to extract their

oils and proteins for use in other products. Produce treated include soybeans, peanuts,

castor, Rapeseed, Cotton, Sunflower, Rice, corn or any seed which contains oil. Hexane is

also used as a cleaning solvent and as an industrial degreaser.

Hexane extraction is a cheaper and more economical method than others. With hexane-

extraction, the amount of oil recovered from the seed is higher than with cold-pressing

techniques, therefore it is more profitable.
