Dr. Marcus Burnstein received his MD from Dalhousie University. He
trained in General Surgery at the University of Toronto and in
Colorectal Surgery at the Lahey Clinic in Boston. He is a past Program
Director for the University of Toronto Residency Programs in
Colorectal Surgery and General Surgery, past Chairman of the Royal
College Specialty Committee for Colorectal Surgery, and past
President of the Canadian Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. Dr.
Burnstein has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the
American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery, an examiner for the
American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery, and as an associate
editor for Diseases of the Colon and Rectum. The annual award for the
best presentation at the University of Toronto Update Course in
General Surgery is named for Dr. Burnstein.

Dr. Carl Brown is a subspecialist Colorectal Surgical Oncologist at Providence
Health Care, Provincial Lead for Surgical Oncology at BC Cancer and Chair of
the Section of Colorectal Surgery at the University of British Columbia. In
2006, he finished a fellowship in Colorectal Surgery and master's degree in
Clinical Epidermiology at the University of Toronto and started practice at St.
Paul's Hospital. As an academic, Dr. Brown has published several studies on
surgery for colorectal cancer, innovative techniques in cancer surgery and
rectal cancer surgery quality improvement. In 2012, he was cited as one of
Vancouver's top 40 under 40 by Business in Vancouver magazine. In 2018, he
co-chaired the first Canadian Rectal Cancer Surgery Standards committee of
the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (CPAC). An education enthusiast, he
has taught courses in laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery, TEM and TaTME.

Dr. Gareth Eeson is a Surgical Oncologist practicing in Kelowna, BC. Dr. Eeson
completed medical school and residency in General Surgery at the University
of British Columbia. He subsequently completed fellowship training in General
Surgery Oncology and Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery at the University
of Toronto.
Dr. Eeson is a consultant Surgical Oncologist at Kelowna General Hospital and
the BC Cancer Agency (Centre for the Southern Interior) and is the Chair of
the Gastrointestinal Tumor Group for the Interior Health Authority/BC Cancer
Agency. Dr. Eeson's clinical practice focuses on the management malignancies
of the liver, bile duct, pancreas, stomach, colon and rectum.

Dr. Ahmer Karimuddin is a Colorectal Surgeon working at St. Paul's Hospitalin Vancouver, BC. He is also Co-Director of the General Surgery ResidencyTraining Program and a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University ofBritish Columbia. He has special expertise in the management of cancer ofthe colon and rectum, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and proctology(hemorrhoids, anal fissures, fecal incontinence). Dr. Karimuddin completed medical school at the University of WesternOntario in London, Ontario 2001. He completed General Surgery training atthe University of Saskatchewan in 2007, with a year completing a Masters inAdult Education, with a focus on surgical education and CanMEDS. In 2007,he moved to Toronto to train as a subspecialist in colorectal surgery. Aftercompleting his fellowship, Dr. Karimuddin began practice in Victoria, BC,wehre he established himself as a Colorectal Surgeon. In 2012, he wasrecruited to join the group at St. Paul's Hospital and Providence Health. Within the field of colon and rectal surgery, Dr. Karimuddin has a particularinterest in laparoscopic colorectal surgery, colorectal cancer, colonoscopyinflammatory bowel disease and the pelvic pouch procedure. His researchinterests include patient outcomes (clinical and PROs) in these areas andERAS pathways. Dr. Karimuddin is the President of the BCMA Section of General SUrgery,and has served on multiple committees related to provision of surgical andmedical care in British Columbia. He is currently the Surgical Lead for theBritish Columbia Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Collaborative. He is anactive member of the Colorectal Cancer Tumour Group, and has participatedin development and maintenance of screening guidelines for colorectalcancer in BC.

Dr. Yvette Leung went to medical school at the University of Calgary and
completed her medical residency at the University of British Columbia. Prior
to becoming faculty as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of
Calgary, she completed her Gastroenterology Fellowship at the Univesity of
Calgary and an Advanced IBD Fellowship at the University of Chicago. In
2016, she joined Pacific Gastroenterology Associates and is clinical facult at
UBC. Her main clinical focus is Inflammatory Bowel Disease and the safety
of biologics during pregnancy.

Dr. Debbie Li completed medical school at Dalhousie University, and General
Surgery Residency at the the University of Toronto. During residency, she
completed a MSc in Clinical Epidemiology through the Surgeon-Scientist
Program in Toronto. Her thesis focused on population-based studies on
diveritcular disease in Canada. She went on to complete a fellowship in
Colorectal Surgery at the University of Minnesota. She joined the Division of
General Surgery at Surrey Memorial Hospital in 2018.

Dr. Howard Lim is a Medical Oncologist at BC Cancer - Vancouver and
Clinical Associate Progessor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University
of British Columbia. He specializes in gastrointestinal malignancies and is
the Residency Training Program Director. He is also actively involved in
clinical trials, ethics and genomic based research.

Dr. Cailan MacPherson is a General and Colorectal Surgeon at Surgical
Consultants, practicing at the Victoria General Hospital and Royal Jubilee
Hospital in Victoria. He completed his General Surgery Residency and
Master's Degree in Health Sciences at UBC in 2014, a fellowship in
Colorectal Surgery at the University of Calgary in 2016, then joined
Surgical Consultants in Victoria. His practice is focused in colorectal
cancer, IBD, and advanced endoscopy. He is a site leader for surgical
education in Victoria and represents the Island Health Authority on the BC
Cancer Surgery Network Colorectal Surgical Tumour Group.

Dr. George Melich is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of
British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada and a surgeon primarily based at the
Royal Columbian Hospital in Vancouver. His areas of expertise include
Colorectal Surgery, General Surgery, Trauma Surgery, and Endoscopy. He
completed his medical school and General Surgery Training at McGill
University in Montreal, Canada. He also pursued advanced surgical
training in Colorectal Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery and Robotics
through fellowship programs at the University of Illinois in Chicago, USA
and Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea. Dr. Melich is an author of
multiple journal publications and book chapters involving surgical and
endoscopic techniques. Together with his colleague Dr. Elena Vikis, Dr.
Melich also runs a colorectal training /program.

Dr. Adam Meneghetti is an Associate Professor at the University of British
Columbia. He completed his MD and General Surgery training at the
University of British Columbia along with a Master's in Health Science. He
then completed his fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery at the
University of California San Francisco. He recently completed training in
Gastric Oncology Surgery at Seoul National University Hospital, Korea. He
has also completed training in Transanal Endoscopic Surgery and with the
da Vinci Robotic surgical system. Dr. Meneghetti is the Director of the UBC
Advcanced MIS Fellowship Program that was established in 2006. Dr.
Meneghetti is the Associate Division Head of General Surgery at Vancouver
General Hospital. He is the past Program Director for the UBC General
Surgery Residency Program and is also a past President of the BC Surgical
Society. He is actively involved in various local, national and international
committees. He is a member of the CAGS MIS Committee and the Canadian
Endoscopy Committee. He is also a member of the Canadian Surgical Forum
Steering Committee and is the incoming Program Chair for the CSF meeting
in 2020.

A Dr. James Okamura graduated medical school and General Surgery
Residency at University of Alberta in 1995. He completed and obtained his
American Board of Colon and Rectal Certification at UT, Houston in 1997.
In 1997, he began practice in the Edmonton region at Sturgeon Community
Hospital. Since 2000, he has been pacticing General and Colon and Rectal
Surgery at Burnaby Hospital. He is actively involved with teaching senior
surgical residents.

Dr. Terry Phang is a Professor of Surgery at the University of British
Columbia where he has taught many surgeons in British Columbia and
Canada on Rectal Cancer and Laparoscopic Colon Surgery, and many
medical students and family physicians on colorectal diseases. He
recieved medical training at the University of Toronto and surgical
training at Memorial University of Newfoundland, later specializing in
Colorectal Surgery training at the University of Minnesota. He also holds
American Board ceritification for Surgery and Colorectal Surgery. He has
a Master's of Science degree in Biochemistry and Clinical research
training in critical illness and Colorectal Surgery with a research
fellowship in Rectal Cancer at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer
Center in New York City. He is Program Director of the UBC Colorectal
Surgery Residency Program and the Inaugural Chair of the Canadian
Royal College Exam Board for Colorectal Surgery. He is a member of the
British Columbia Cancer Agency Surgical Oncology Network Committee
on colon and rectal cancer that has the mandate of improving outcomes
for colorectal cancer through programmatic development in BC, and a
member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons
Committee on fundamentals of rectal cancer surgery. He is the current
President of the Canadian Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and is
facilitator for a Canadian clinical trials network in Colorectal Surgery.

Dr. Manoj Raval is a specialist in Colon and Rectal Surgery at St. Paul's
Hospital and Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of
British Columbia. He graduated from medical school at the University of
Calgary in 2004. He then went on to subspecialty fellowship training in
Colon and Rectal Surgery at the University of Toronto. While in Toronto,
he also completed a MSc degree in Clinical Epidemiology. He was
recruited to the Department of Surgery at St Paul's Hospital and the
University of British Columbia in 2006, and is proud to work in the Centre
of Excellence in Colorectal Surgery that has developed over time at St.
Paul's Hospital. Dr. Raval also works closely with radiation and medical
oncologists at the BC Cancer Agency (BCCA). Within the BCCA's Surgical
Oncology Network, he is the Chair of the Colorectal Surgery Tumour
Group, whose mandate is to promote excellence in the surgical treatment
of colorectal cancer for British Columbians. He has headed a number of
initiatives through the BC Cancer Agency, including development of
Colorectal Cancer Care Pathway Maps for patients and management
guidelines for colorectal cancer for physicians.

Dr. Magdalena Recsky is a General and Colorectal Surgeon working on
Kelowna. Dr. Recsky completed medical school at the University of British
Columbia, followed by Residency in General Surgery in 2013. She completed
a Fellowship in Colorectal Surgery at St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver. She
has also completed a Master's in Health Care and Epidemiology. She was
been actively involved in the Enhanced Recovery Program after Surgery
(ERAS) at the local, provincial and national levels. She is the Head of the
Family Practice residents during their General Surgery rotation in Kelowna.
She is a member of the BC Surgical Society Executive and will be the
Interior Health representative in the Colorectal Surgical Tumour Group in
British Columbia.

Dr. Nathan Schneidereit is a Colorectal Surgeon and has worked in the
Nanaimo Regional General Hospital since 2006. Dr. Schneidereit completed
his MD and General Surgery training at the University of British Columbia
and went on to obtain further subspecialty training in Colorectal Surgery at
the Cleveland Clinic in Weston, Florida.

Dr. Sullivan completed medical school and General Surgery Training at the
University of Toronto. He went on to study Colorectal Surgery at the
University of Minnesota. He worked at St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver
before settling in Kelowna for the past 19 years as a General/Colorectal
Surgeon and Clinical Instructor with the University of British Columbia.

Dr. Elena Vikis is a Colorectal Surgeon at Royal Columbian and EagleRidge Hospitals since 2012 and Clinical Instructor for the Department ofSurgery at UBC. Dr. Vikis is at the forefront of an international effort tointroduce a new standard of care for one of the most common anddeadliest cancers. After starting practice in 2009, she became an early adopter of apromising new surgical technique for treating rectal lesions and cancers.Today, Dr. Vikis has become a leading practitioner in Canada of theprocedure know as TaTME. She has performed more TaTME cases thananyone else in the country, introduced the new approach to surgicalcolleagues, co-organized the first congress on this topic in Canada, andpresented at conferences in the US and Europe. In addition, sheestablised sub-specialized colorectal surgical services, including an MISFellowship program, for Fraser Health, the larges health region in BC. Dr.Vikis is a proud supporter of Colon Cancer Canada.
