Praise to Allah I’ve been given

the opportunity to write in this column. I

felt so happy in my first day at CFS of

IIUM. One of the rules at CFS is all stu-

dent are compulsory to take EPT test to

determine the length of one study. As I’ve

got level 5 in the EPT test, I’ve

qualified myself to be in one-year-

program. However, I don’t have the

courage to write and speak in Eng-

lish spontaneously like my other

classmates do it. Our beloved mad-

ams’ thought and guided us on how

to write proper English. We were

given tasks, exercises and all of our

hard work had to be put up in our own magazine.

GENERATION consists my

works and efforts throughout this se-

mester. Thanks to all for the guidance,

as I can write in a little bit more con-fidence and I’m

determine to be exempted in the

final exam. Do pray for my suc-cess! -AISYAH

It was semester break when

the accident happened. I have to stay

back in my hostel as I forgot to buy

the ticket bus earlier. I don’t aspect the tick-

ets would sold out in advance. One morning,

as I want to go to the toilet, I saw a lot of

blood on the floor along the corridor. When I

reached the toilet, I was very shocked be-

cause I found a student in the toilet and her

body covers with blood. Furthermore, there

was a baby on her laps. The girl looks pale

and tired. In a blink of an eye, I rushed to see

the principal and we send the poor girl to the

hospital nearby. It shows that teen pregnancy

nowadays has become a lot worst. What are

the causes? What are the effects of teen preg-

nancy?

In GENERATION, we have en-

countered the questions and answers for

these matters. - HAJAR.

I love my family. Last semester

break, my family and I went to Padang, Indo-

nesia. As I love to shop, my parent booked us

a hotel near Matahari Mall. It was my favor-

ite mall of all as it consists of different kind

of fabric and textile. In one evening, as I went

down the road, I saw a group of secondary

students were bullying one of their school-

mates in front of the school gate. I was hesi-

tated to go and stop them as I saw their teach-

ers also did not do anything. You might don’t

understand on what cause teenagers nowadays

are behaving like that.

In GENERATION, we have done

research of places on children are bullied and

the report has been included. Based from the

report, parents can be more alert in their child

conditions: emotionally and physically. -

HAZIRAH

Alhamdulillah praise to Allah that finally

our group has finished the magazine which is

known as ‘Generation’. I’m feeling very excited for

this project since it is my first experience to make a

magazine. This project has teaches me a lot on how

to be more patience and build up teamwork spirit.

Since I’m an architecture and environmental design

student, I think my life is going different from the

other students. For example, I’m always stay awake

at night and sometime until morning just only to

finish my project and now, I will feel weird if I’m

going to bed early. Sometimes, after the project is

being submitted, I will do other work to fill up the

free time since I can’t get sleep early. Although I

know that has a lack sleep is not good for health but

to finish the project is the most important for me.

But, after doing this project, I realized that to get

enough sleep is important to maintain good

health since enough sleep can make me

slim. For your information, if we do not

get enough sleep which is above 5 hours, it

will make us gain weight. Hence, one of

the columns in this magazine will explain

to you more about sleep enough can make

you slim. So, I hope all of you enjoy our

magazine. Keep your eyes on

‘Generation’.– SAZILA

Look around yourselves Can’t you see this wonder Spreaded infront of you The clouds floating by The skies are clear and blue Planets in the orbits The moon and the sun Such perfect harmony Let’s start question in ourselves Isn’t this proof enough for us Or are we so blind To push it all aside.. No.. We just have to Open our eyes, our hearts, and minds If we just look bright to see the signs We can’t keep hiding from the truth Let it take us by surprise Take us in the best way (Allah..) Guide us every single day.. (Allah..) Keep us close to You Until the end of time.. Look inside yourselves Such a perfect order Hiding in yourselves Running in your veins What about anger love and pain And all the things you’re feeling Can you touch them with your hand? So are they really there? Lets start question in ourselves Isn’t this proof enough for us? Or are we so blind To push it all aside..?

No.. We just have to Open our eyes, our hearts, and minds If we just look bright to see the signs We can’t keep hiding from the truth Let it take us by surprise Take us in the best way (Allah..) Guide us every single day.. (Allah..) Keep us close to You Until the end of time.. When a baby’s born So helpless and weak And you’re watching him growing..

So why deny Whats in front of your eyes The biggest miracle of life.. We just have to Open our eyes, our hearts, and minds If we just look quiet we’ll see the signs We can’t keep hiding from the truth Let it take us by surprise Take us in the best way (Allah..) Pray Before Eating Everyone was seated around the table as the food was being served. When little

Logan received his plate, he started eating right away.

"Logan, wait until we say our prayer," his mother reminded him.

"I don't have to," the little boy replied.

"Of course you do," his mother insisted, "we say a prayer before eating at our

house."

"That's at our house," Logan explained, "but this is Grandma's house and she knows

how to cook."

Getting Fat

When I was six months pregnant with my third child, my three year old came into the room when I was just getting ready to get into the shower. She said, "Mummy, you are getting fat!" I replied, "Yes, honey, remember Mummy has a baby growing in her tummy." "I know," she replied, but what's growing in your bum?"

Too much TV???

A mother was reading a book about animals to

her 3 year old daughter:

Mother: "What does the cow say?"

Child: "Moo!"

Mother: "Great! What does the cat say?"

Child: "Meow."

Mother: "Oh, you're so smart! What does the

frog say?"

And this wide-eyed little 3 yr. old looked up at

her mother and in her deepest voice replied,

"Bud."

Talking Too Much

Eight-year-old Nina brought her report card

home from school. Her marks were

good...mostly A's and a couple of B's.

However, her teacher had written across the

bottom: "Nina is a smart little girl, but she has

one fault. She talks too much in school. I have an

idea I am going to try, which I think may break

her of the habit."

Nina's dad signed her report card, putting a note

on the back: "Please let me know if your idea

works on Nina because I would like to try it out

on her mother."

Dear Mak Cik Mah, I have a big problem at my working place. My workmates are too friendly, they are like to gossip about unimportant matters and backstabbing. Orderly, they do not do their work properly. Moreover, they are hypocrite. The way they communicate is distracted that can lose my focus towards my work. They are also like to laugh on top of their voice that can be disrespect to the other workers and the employer. Can you give me some advice? As soon as possible please write to me. Thank you. Assalamualaikum. From, Redrose

Dear redrose, Waalaikumussalam. First of all, thank you for seeking my advice.

Have you ever complained to your employer? If not, please do so. If it’s still not working, you can talk to them personally that you can’t focus on your work because of their distractions, as you have the right as an employee. You should talk to them nicely so that they can understand your situation and respect your condition. Explained to them that their laughter is making you to lose your focus and it can affect the quality of work. If this way is still does not work, be patience, strong and do your work sincerely because of Allah s.w.t. God willing, He will help. Try to learn to ignore them. From, Mak Cik Mah

Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived: Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and all of the others, including Love. One day it was announced to the feelings that the island would sink, so all con-structed boats and left. Except for Love. Love was the only one who stayed. Love wanted to hold out until the last possible moment. When the island had almost sunk, Love decided to ask for help. Richness was passing by Love in a grand boat. Love said, "Richness, can you take me with you?" Richness answered, "No, I can't. There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no place here for you." Love decided to ask Vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel. "Vanity, please help me!" "I can't help you, Love. You are all wet and might damage my boat," Vanity answered. Sadness was close by so Love asked, "Sadness, let me go with you." "Oh . . . Love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself!" Happiness passed by Love, too, but she was so happy that she did not even hear when Love called her. Suddenly, there was a voice, "Come, Love, I will take you." It was an elder. So blessed and overjoyed, Love even forgot to ask the elder where they were go-ing. When they arrived at dry land, the elder went her own way. Realizing how much was owed the elder, Love asked Knowledge, another elder, "Who Helped me?" "It was Time," Knowledge answered. "Time?" asked Love. "But why did Time help me?" Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and answered, "Because only Time

is capable of understanding how valuable Love is.”

Generally, everyone wants to have a slim and slander body. Put aside all the slim-ming products in your shelf as there is a simple way that can make you slim without spending any cent of your money which is through sleeping. The amount of sleep we need varies from one person another person, where depends in many factors, including age. Therefore, experts recommend 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night for adults. It is stated that, enough sleep can make you thin as it decrease your hunger and increase your basal metabolic rate.

Firstly, to have a slimmer body one need to have enough sleep as sleeping can de-creases your hunger. Sleep can affects the hormones level in your body which are leptin and ghrelin. Leptin and ghrelin work in a kind of “checks and balances” system to control feelings of hunger and fullness. Ghrelin, which is produced in the gastrointestinal tract, stimulates appetite, while leptin, produced in fat cells, sends a signal to the brain when you are full. So, what’s the connection to sleep? “When you don’t get enough sleep, it drives leptin levels down, which means you don’t get feel as satisfied after you eat. Lack of sleep also causes ghrelin levels to rise, which means your appetite is stimulated, so you want more food, “said experts from Atlanto School of Medicine. Therefore, when the two combined, it can set the stage for overeating, which is turn may lead to weight gain.

Secondly, through sleeping, one can stimulate the metabolism rate in body which helps to burn more carbohydrates and make one slimmer. In general, sleeping less may affects changes in a person’s metabolic rate (the number of calories you burn when you are rest). Besides, when you sleep less, you move around less too, and therefore burn up fewer calories. Then, when the calories burn up less, it is mean that you are gaining weight.

In general, you can be slim by just having enough sleep without the need to buy

slimming products that only burn holes in your pockets. If one want to be slim, one need

to have enough sleep as sleep can lower your hunger and increase your metabolic rate.

ENOUGH SLEEP CAN MAKE YOU SLIM

THE CAUSE OF TEEN PREGNANCY BY SITI AISYAH ABD AZIZ

Nowadays, teen pregnancies are widely occurs in Malaysia. In fact, news about teen pregnancy abroad in newspaper are also common. It has been proven that teen pregnancy is caused by the following factors: broken home, got rape and lack of religious knowledge.

First of all, research shows that many teenagers come from broken homes either through divorce or other causes. Teens perceive their life in a broken home environment like a storm of emotion when their parents always quarrel in front of them. Sometimes when mother comes back late it triggers her father’s suspi-cious and it cause a quarrel between them. Sometimes the father is a drunkard or gambler, and they frighten the family, forcefully take money and break down the house. It will cause teenage feel depress and seek freedom and do things that can lead to their pregnancy. Coming from a broken home is a cause of teen preg-nancy.

Secondly, another cause of teen pregnancy is rape. Some of them are vic-tims of rape. They possibly get raped by a stranger, her boyfriend, her father, brother and so on. Recently, most of teenagers like to wear clothes that attract the opposite sex. Sometimes, teenagers feel their boyfriend is very kind and be-lieve in them too much until she gets raped by her own boyfriend. In the case of rape by her father or her brother they usually are the step father or brother. When male sexual desires is at its peak, they do not think about the girl as long as his desire has fulfilled. Not all male can be trusted. So, we cannot believe in males 100 per cent, also to think that all male are kind and wear clothes that do not cover our aurah.

The lack of religious knowledge is the last cause for teen pregnancy. It is because parents nowadays are busy with their own work and spend less time with their children. Therefore, they forgot their responsibility to give religious knowledge to their children. For example, Faezah is one who does not go to reli-gious school when her parents are not around. She does not worship to God (Allah), as she does not perform her solah, she barely recites the Al-Quran. Be-cause of the weak iman that she had, she is lonely all the time, and she believe she has nothing left except her boyfriend. Therefore, she would do anything to be with him. Altogether this can cause to the teen pregnancy as she submitted herself in him. Hence, lack of religious can lead to the teen pregnancy.

In general, broken home, rape and religious knowledge can lead to the cause of teen pregnancy. We cannot blame the teenagers only, for their preg-nancy, as their parents and society are also responsible to educate them to this social issue. So, the social issue of teen pregnancy can be reduced if the govern-ment and all community work together in solving this problem.

The pie chart shows the percentage of the effects of teen pregnancy that occurs in Malaysia. The three effects are emotionally de-pressed, being restrained in school activities, and inadequate weight gain.

Since their parents do not pay attention and do not control their ac-tivities, they feel free to d what they are without any restriction from any-one. Hence, the problems in a family has make the students stress and en-courage them to bully so that they can release the depression. It is stated that, enough sleep can make you thin as it decrease your hunger and increase your basal metabolic rate. Firstly, to have a slimmer body one need to have enough sleep as sleeping can decreases your hunger. Sleep can affects the hormones level in your body which are leptin and ghrelin. Leptin and ghrelin work in a kind of “checks and balances” system to control feelings of hunger and fullness.
