Generic Workplace Vocabulary Background These materials have been developed with the support of funding from the Department for Universities, Industry and Skills (DIUS), and are designed to complement the learning programmes for the ESOL for Work qualifications and other ESOL qualifications that are delivered in a workplace setting. Introduction This vocabulary list is designed to help those who are learning English to better understand some of the specific work terms, jargon, acronyms and abbreviations that they may come across in the workplace. The list includes a brief explanation of each words or term and has been formatted to be used like a “workbook” so that users can add their own notes either on an electronic version or on a printed copy. In addition, the list includes guidance on pronunciation, which follows the “spelled pronunciation” style.
