Genesis—Beginnings God’s Purpose for Creating Man—Genesis 1:24-27
1. Man is created in the __________ of God and is __________ to God.
“Since God has made man in his own image, man is not caught in the wheels of determinism. Rather man is so great that he can influence history for himself and for others, for this life and the life to come.” Francis Schaeffer 2. God created man, both __________ and __________. 3. God made man __________ and __________. Old Testament: __________ (nephesh); __________ (ruach) New Testament: __________ (psyche); __________ (pneuma) God is nowhere said to __________ or __________. But God is defined as __________ (John 4:24) 4. God created man to __________ for the animals. “I am fully convinced that before Adam’s sin his eyes were so sharp and clear that they surpassed those of the lynx and eagle. He was stronger than the lions and the bears, whose strength is very great; and he handled them the way we handled puppies.” “If we are looking for an outstanding philosopher, let us not over-look our first parents while they were still free from sin.” Martin Luther 5. God created man __________ but now he is not. This is why we need a __________! “posse non peccare (able not to sin), now he is non posse non peccare (not able not to sin).” Augustine
Where Can I Go From Your Spirit?
Psalm 139:7
1. There is the wonder of the Lord’s __________.
2. There is the wonder of the Lord’s __________.
3. There is the wonder of the Lord’s __________.
Q & A: “Where can I go from Your Spirit?” In a word, nowhere.
Our God of wonder is everywhere always. And, wonder of won-
ders, He not only knows the number of hairs on your head, there
is nowhere you can go from His Spirit. You are on His mind even
now. “You have hedged me behind and before, and laid Your
hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me.” (Psalm
139:5-6).
