AbouttheGenieTouchTheGenieTouchTMisaninfusion/withdrawaldual-syringepumpwithmulti-syringecapabilityandaseriesofuser-configurablefunctionsthatallowittomeetavarietyofneeds.Itsupportsoptionalaudiblealarmsandoptionalforceadjustment.TheGenieTouchisnotdesigned,intendedorauthorizedforuseinhumanapplications.
PartsoftheGenieTouchItisusefultobecomefamiliarwiththepartsoftheGenieTouchbeforeyoubeginusingit.TheGenieTouchsupportsuseoftwosyringesatatime,bothfacingthesamedirection.Therightsyringemountandtheleftsyringemounteachaccepttwosyringesofupto60mlsize.Note:Theleftandrightsyringeplungerreversingclampsonthepusherblockareusedtograbtheflangeontheendofthesyringeplunger.Withthesyringeplungerfixedtothepusherblock,theplungercanbemovedinbothforward(infusingoremptying)andreverse(withdrawingorfilling)directions.Theseclampsarealsocalledanti-siphonclampsbecausetheykeepthesyringeplungerfrompassivelymovingunderlargehydrostaticloads.

SettingUptheGenieTouchTheonlyphysicalsetuptheGenieTouchrequiresisthatyouplugitinandmountyoursyringes.
1. Connectthesupplied12VDCpoweradaptertotheGenieTouchthroughthepowerentryconnectorontherearofthechassis.(SeeFigures1band1c.)
2. Plugtheadapterintoanappropriatepowersource.
3. Slidethepowerswitchon.YouwillseetheOpening screen,whichcontainstwobuttons—SetupandMain.TappingSetupleadstoaseriesofscreensforconfiguringyourGenieTouchtomeetyourspecificneeds.TappingMainleadstotheMainscreenforcontrollingtheGenieTouchwhileitisrunning.
MountingSyringesTherearetwosyringemountsontherightsideoftheGenieTouchchassisforthetraditionalindustry-standardright-facingsyringeplacement.Therearealsotwosyringemountsontheleftsideofthechassisifyouprefertouseleft-facingsyringes.TheRightSideTomountasyringeinoneoftheright-sidemounts:
1.Selecttheproperclamporientation.ThesyringebarrelclampsareL-shapedandworkforbothsmallandlargesyringesdependingupontheorientationoftheclamp:
Forsmallersyringes£ PlacethescrewintheholeinthebottomoftheshortlegoftheL.£ Placethespringovertheprotrudingendofthescrew.£ LaythelongerlegofLinthenotchinthesideofthechassis.£ Tightenthescrewintothenotchinthechassis.
Forlargersyringes£ PlacethescrewintheholeinthetopoftheshortlegoftheL.£ Placethespringovertheprotrudingendofthescrew.£ Insertthebottomoftheshorterlegintothenotchinthesideof
thechassis.£ Tightenthescrewintothenotchinthechassis.
Thespringallowstheclamptoriseautomaticallywhenyouloosenit,makingsyringeremovalmoreconvenient.

2.Loosenthescrewsonthetwosyringebarrelreversingclamps.Boththerightsyringemountandthepusherblockhaveblackreversingclampswithgrayscrewsatthetop.(SeeFigure1a.)Loosenallfourscrews.Ifthereversingclampofthepusherblockisontheleftfaceoftheblock,removethegrayscrewsandreplacetheclamplooselyontherightfaceoftheblock.
3.Placethesyringe.Laythesyringeinthetroughfacingoutofthechassiswiththebarrelflangebetweenthechassisanditsreversingclampandtheplungerflangebetweenthepusherblockanditsreversingclamp.
4.Tightenthescrews.Youmayhavetotightenallthescrewspartwaydownandthenreturntoretightenthem.Holdingthesyringeinplace,screwthesyringebarrelclampdownloosely.Tightenthescrewspart-wayonthereversingclamps.Wheneverythingislooselyheldinplace,squeezeeachreversingclampagainsttheflangeitisholdingandtightentofingertight.Thensqueezetheothersideofeachreversingclampandtightenit.Finally,returntothesyringeclampandmakeitfingertightaswell.
TheLeftSideTomountasyringeinoneoftheleft-sidemounts:
1.Selecttheproperclamporientation.Therearetwosyringebarrelclamps,astraightclampandanM-shapedclamp.Yourchoiceofclampwilldependuponthesizeofyoursyringe:
Forthesmallestsyringes–UsetheMclampwiththepointedsectionsfacingdown.Securetheclampwiththecentralscrew.Formid-sizesyringes–Usethestraightclamp.Securetheclampwiththecentralscrew.
Forlargersyringes–UsetheMclampwiththepointedsectionsfacingup.Securetheclampwiththecentralscrew.
Usethespringinthesamewayyouuseitforright-sidemounts.

2.Loosenthescrewsonthetwosyringebarrelreversingclamps.Boththerightsyringemountandthepusherblockhaveblackreversingclampswithgrayscrewsatthetop.(SeeFigure1c.)Loosenallfourscrews.Ifthereversingclampofthepusherblockisontheleftfaceoftheblock,removethegrayscrewsandreplacetheclamplooselyontherightfaceoftheblock.
3.Placethesyringe.Laythesyringeinthetroughfacingoutofthechassis,withthebarrelflangebetweenthechassisanditsreversingclamp,andtheplungerflangebetweenthepusherblockanditsreversingclamp.
4.Tightenthescrews.Youmayhavetotightenallthescrewspartwaydownandthenreturntoretightenthem.Holdingthesyringeinplace,screwthesyringebarrelclampdownloosely.Tightenthescrewspart-wayonthereversingclamps.Wheneverythingislooselyheldinplace,squeezeeachreversingclampagainsttheflangeitisholdingandtightentofingertight.Thensqueezetheothersideofeachreversingclampandtightenit.Finally,returntothesyringeclampandmakeitfingertight.
NOTE:Thefirsttimeyouuseanewsyringesizeorbrandmodel,youwillneedto:

ControllingtheGenieTouch
TheTouchScreenTheGenieTouchmenuscreensaretouch-sensitive.Herearesometipsforusingthescreens:
£ Whentwochoicesappearsidebysideonthesamebutton,onlyoneortheothercanbeactiveatonetime.Theactivechoicewillbeyellowandtheinactivechoicewillbegrayed.
£ IfascreencontainsaSavebutton,youmusttapit
ifyouwanttosavethesettingsyouhavemade.
£ SomescreenscontainaDonebuttonwhichsavesyoursettingstotemporarymemoryandexitstothepreviousscreen.Inthosecases,youwillreturntoascreenwithaSavebutton.Tapittosavethefullconfigurationofsettingsonthatscreentonon-volatilememory.
£ SomescreenscontainaCancelbuttonwhichexitstothepreviousscreenwithoutsaving
yoursettings.
£ Numerickeypadscreens,whichallowyoutosetvaluesforvariousparameters,allcontainabottomrowwiththesebuttons:
• decimalpoint(•)whereappropriate• Savetoleaveandretainyourchanges• Deltodeletethelasttappednumberor

£ Setup > SyringeTheSyringeSelectionscreenThetopbuttonofthisscreenshowsthekindofsyringecurrentlyselected—GenericorBrand.Theselectedtypeappearsinyellow,andtheotherbuttonsonthescreendisplaythecurrentsettings,ifany,forthattypeofsyringe.TochangebetweenGenericandBrand,tapthebluechoice.Theotherbuttonsonthescreenwillchangetoreflectthetypeofsyringeyouhaveselected.

SetthesyringeVolume TapVolumetosetthevolumeforyourgenericsyringe.Attheresultingnumerickeypad,youmayenteravalueupto150ml.TaptheUnitsbuttoninthebottomrowtoswitchbetweenmlandul.Seteitherthe syringe DiameterorLength Tosetthediameter,tapDiameterandusetheresultingnumerickeypadtoenteranexactinsidediameterforyoursyringeinmm.Tosetthelengthinstead,tapLengthandfollowthesameprocess.Lengthisdefinedasthedistancebetweenthefullandemptypositions.Whenyouspecifyoneofthesevalues,GenieTouchwillcalculatetheotherbasedonyourVolumesetting.Choosethesyringeorientation TapFacing LeftorFacing RighttoindicatehowyouplantoorientthesyringeintheGenieTouch.Rightandleftrefertoyourrightorleft.NotethisselectiondefinesthephysicaldirectionfortheInfuseandWithdrawfunctions.(Re)CalibratetheEmpty Position Thebuttonforcalibrating(orrecalibrating)theEmpty Positiondoesnotappearuntilyouhavespecifiedalltheotherparametersforyoursyringe.Ifyouareusinganewkindofsyringe,thebuttonwillreadCalibrate Empty Positionandyoumustcompletetheprocessdescribedbelowbeforeyoursyringeisfullydefined.
Ifyouareusingasyringewithidenticaldimensionstooneyouhaveusedbefore,GenieTouchhassaveditscalibrationdatainthelookuptableandwillretrievethedataautomatically.ThebuttonwillreadRecalibrate Empty Position.Youshouldtapitonlyifyouwanttomakeachange.OneofthechangesyoucanmakeispressingErasetoremovethecurrentsyringefromtheGenieTouchlookuptable.Thetablecanhold48
Syringe Lengthmustbebetween1cmand12cmandsyringeDiametermustbebetween0.02mmand3cm.Ifyoutrytoinputnumbersoutsidetheseranges,youwillseeanerrormessage.
IfyouspecifyaDiameter/Volume combinationthatwouldcauseacalculatedLength tobeoutsidetheallowedrange, oraLength/VolumecombinationthatwouldcauseacalculatedDiametertobeoutsidetheallowedrange,thecalculatedvaluewilldisplayas Out of range.

Tocalibratetheemptypositionforyoursyringe:

3. Movethepusherblockuntilitiswithinabout0.2mmoftheendofthesyringeorlightlytouchingit.Usethe Fast << or Fast >>buttonstogetclosetothecorrectpositionandthenswitchtotheSlow Adjustbuttontofine-tunetheposition.Notethat Slow Adjustmovesonlytowardwhatyouhavedefinedasemptyforthissyringe.
4. PressSavetosaveyoursettingsorCanceltoreturntothepreviousscreenwithno
changes.

1. Choosethesyringebrand.

CAUTION!Positiontheplungertobelightlytouchingtheendofthesyringebarrelortobeabout0.2mmfromtheendofthesyringe.Donotforcetheplungerintotheendofthesyringe.Thatwillcausethesyringeandplungertomoveandflexduringuseandresultininaccuraciesinplungermovement.Inaddition,ifyoudefinetheEmpty PositiontobetooclosetotheendofthebarrelandthenselectaMaximum Forceof100%(seepage16),theforcecouldeasilydamageorbreakadelicatesyringe.
