Complete a focus lesson with students, using the anchor charts, before using this activity in stations. Make connections between reading and writing. Practice identifying different types of literature using books and stories that you have read so far this year.

STATION TASK CARD Unit 1 2 3 4 _________ Station Activity Name: Genre Match Standard: Reading for Literature/Text Types and Purposes Skill/Objective: (COPY IN YOUR PASSPORT) Identifying Genres Directions: 1. Work with the students in your station. 2. Take turns reading the anchor charts provided. Be sure you understand the different types of genres. 3. Take the stack of books provided by the teacher and divide them into genres according to the anchor charts. 4. When you are finished, choose one book to read with a partner. Take turns reading a page each.
Challenge: Many ideas for writing come from books that we have read. Think about the book you just read. Now write about what might happen next in the story. Check the book for words you might need help spelling. Edit your writing with your partner. Reflection: Compare your writing with your partner’s work. How are the stories alike? How are they different?
