“Whether as advisors to the south Vietnamese army or as combat troops directly engaged in fighting the Viet Cong and the north Vietnamese army, U.S. soldiers served in Vietnam from 1959 to 1975, making the war twice as long as the war of independence”(6).

“on January 20, 1968, a marine reconnaissance patrol made contact with North Vietnamese Army (NVA) troops”(70).

They where dead”(74).

EVALUATION: Is 10,00 days of thunder a good example of a narrative nonfiction?

• Philip Caputo a prize winning journalist did an outstanding job in his book 10,000 days of thunder. He describes all the real events and the exact dates and people real names in this story. It is like actually being there in the war and what the people are going through. Its crazy to see the stress and terror the men went through they might have been trained to fight but everyone was terrified.
