- The New Great Migrations: 2010 Census: Datao Majority (55%) of the USA’s blacks live in the Southo College-educated African-Americans leading this migration, some retirees o Atlanta is the #1 destination for black migrants, since the late 1990s, without migration

from NY, Chicago, LA and other cities of the North, Midwest and Westo Now, highest black population is in NYC, 2nd highest in Atlanta

- Atlanta (metro) and Detroit (city and metro) have higher % of City’s population that is Black (as compared to NYC)—NYC larger number, but smaller % of population

o Three reasons for reversal of blacks’ “Great Migration” north: The South’s economic growth and modernization Its improved race relations The longstanding cultural and kinship ties it holds for black families
