GeoChirp II GeoAcoustics Chirp Sub-Bottom Profiler High Resolution, Deep Penetration Chirp Sub-Bottom Profiler Features Chirp technology yields high resolution and deep penetration User selectable source signals on 1.5 to 13 kHz bandwidth Highly efficient power amplifier (> 90%) Regulate output power from 10 W to 4 kW Description The GeoChirp II profiler delineates the sub-surface using reflections from the frequency modulated source signal. Due to chirp pulse compression and digital signal processing techniques it achieves deep penetration, even through compacted sediments such as sand and gravel, whilst attaining high resolution. The operator can choose from a range of waveforms, including a single frequency pinger signal, or programme his own signal, depending on the survey task. System Components The basic system consists of the transceiver deck unit, sub-sea electronics, a hydrophone array and a four transducer array (Models T135) in a tow-fish (Model 136), over the side-mount assembly (Model 132) or a bespoke hull mount arrangement, which can be configured to hold up to 16 transducers. The data can be acquired using all customary acquisition systems and output on storage and paper media. Transceiver This compact and easy to operate unit allows choice of source signals and makes the data available as processed and unprocessed signal. The operator can choose between internal and external keys. Sub-Sea Electronics The unit comprises the Chirp signal generation and power amplifier hardware and provides connections for deck/tow cable, transducers and hydrophone array. The unit is mounted adjacent to the transducers, resulting in high efficiency, distortionless drive, eliminates calibration problems resulting from long cables, regulates to constant power regardless of cable Options Combined with side scan sonar Deep towed (2000 m) Range of customary acquisition system Range of tow cables and winches length and elimination of cross talk between transmit and receive. Transducer deployment options Over-The-Side-Mount (Model 132) The assembly was designed for small boat operation at lower speeds. The transducers are mounted on a plate at the end of a vertical, gimballed staff. The staff, in turn, is supported by a mounting pad, which can be fastened to either the deck of the boat, or to an athwart-ships timber. Towed Transducer Vehicle (Model 136A) The Model 136A fish allows for stable, noise-free towing in high seas and at speeds up to 12 knots. The rugged galvanised body and fibreglass cowling, provides protection and will stand up to the punishment encountered at sea. Hull mounting The transducers are mounted in a bespoke sea-chest arrangements. Up to 16 transducers are supported for deep water operations.
