In October 2005 LCE successfully secured the role of lead design consultant for the refurbishment project at the School of Biosciences, Geoffrey Pope Building, University of Exeter.

For Phase 1 LCE provided full architectural services plus laboratory planning and design consultancy. Completed in December 2006, the new laboratories support the school’s rapid expansion as a centre for research and teaching across a broad spectrum of subject areas, ranging from Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry and Bioinformatics to Whole-Organism Studies and Ecosystem Biology.

The building comprises suites of flexible BSL2 category laboratories fitted out with adaptable ‘plug and play’ laboratory systems. The facilities include high-tech growth rooms, a state of the art Bio-imaging suite and a dedicated BSL3 containment facility for specialist Biosciences research.
